  1. I hope our new hire adds Franchione's son Brad to his coaching staff. He's probably not yet ready for prime time, but he's tearing things up down there at Blinn JC. Heard a lot of good things about him.
  2. Bring him on! What better place for a high school coach with great potential to start his D1 career than at a school with the worst offense in America? As long as we can hook him up with some good experienced coordinators, he and his offensive mind are just what we need in Denton. I just hope we can find a way to entice him.
  3. Glad to see the announcement came before season's end. Gives us a bit more time to sift through the talent out there. Now I can safely say thank you DD for your contrubution to our four championships and best of luck to you and your's in the future.
  4. Yeah, they make a pretty WACky pizza. I say we go there. They're a step up from that lowly Sausage, Bacon, and Cheese.
  5. Don't know if SBC bylaws would prohibit it, but La-Monroe managed to go SBC for football and Southland for their other sports until recently.
  6. I still don't think that YOU'RE getting it. I'm not necessarily pushing for a WAC membership, I just think it should be something for NT (not ASU) to consider if the opportunity presents itself for a FOOTBALL ONLY membership in the near future. I would prefer a comprehensive USA membership or a two division WAC, but that may not be feasible anytime soon. You sound as if a trip to Hawaii every couple of years is so painful that it should preclude our joining the WAC. I disagree and don't think that the travel in the WAC for FOOTBALL ONLY is all that much more painful (financially and physically) than our current SBC travel. We're only talking a major travel difference of a couple of games a year, and I think that Hawaii would be more of a benefit than a detriment. And yes, I do think that SBC membership AND our apparently inept coaching staff are hurting our recruiting base both in Texas and beyond. My brother is a high school coach and I've heard negative SBC perceptions first hand from players and coaches on more than one occasion. Also, I'm sure that YOU wouldn't want NT to leave the SBC. We may be down at the moment, but if ASU were the flagship of the conference I wouldn't want you going anywhere either.
  7. It would be nice to have it in Denton, but I have no problem at all with it being at the proposed location. It will strenghten our ties to Dallas, and I suspect that the growth in prestige and student quality will occur more rapidly in Dallas than it would in Denton.
  8. Uh, I'm not referring to individual recruiting anomalies such as Rick Stockstill, but I am referring to the decisions made by the ENTIRE POPULATION of recruits. There will obviously be exceptions that are even willing to sign on the bottom line at isolated outposts such as Murpheesboro and Jonesboro. Go figure.
  9. And they would also be telling the recruits that the airplane would be landing in Hawaii. Since when is a plane ride to a REAL game of interest in Boise more painful than a plane ride to an obscure game at FIU/FAU? Also, are you saying that we don't even attempt to recruit players in the Metroplex? Our coaches may be bad, but not quite that bad. The word is out about the Sunbelt team up in Denton but the players are just not biting. I know for a fact that opposing Texas schools use our affiliation against us. I've heard it from several players.
  10. Among other things, the SBC is seriously hindering our ability to recruit quality players in Texas because our competition continually slams our conference affiliation to potential recruits. USA would be nice, but if ANYONE else comes calling we should definitely consider making a change. Just my opinion of course, but this school has never in its history had the cojones to attempt anything more than baby steps. If you behave as an inferior, people will treat you as an inferior. That's just human nature and is the way our university has always seemed to behave. The WAC may not be the Big 12, but it certainly is a cut above the SBC. Since we obviously have serious financial limitations, why not try football only? We could always come crawling back to the SBC if we fail. The SBC wouldn't turn down El Centro College if they wanted to try IA football.
  11. We're driving to N.O. from Conroe on Friday morning and plan on hitting Lafayette for the game on the way back. Anyone have any restaurant recommendations other than Prejean's?
  12. I sure hope we don't put our law school in Austin. That would be too long of a commute for me.
  13. Ridiculous that Mitchell isn't given a shot. Just another in a long line of stupid personnel decisions.
  14. Anyone know if Bomar still has any interest? Not eligible at Sam this year, and considering our quarterback situation, I would be willing to give Art Schlichter a try.
  15. Or the Aggies.
  16. I would prefer USA, but how many of our fans actually DO go to our regional conference road games? Not many based on my last couple of trips. Besides, we could try and schedule regional opponents (not Akrons) for our non-conference road games, and an occasional trip to Hawaii would be nice for recruiting and for those of us that can sneak away for a NT football week in the islands. If USA starts to look doubtful and we do reconsider the WAC, I would definitely want it as a football only membership. Not to easy for us to fund the other sports plus baseball in the WAC.
  17. We would probably be better at that than we are at football, but I doubt we could even afford to rent the shoes with our athletic budget.
  18. Now it's starting to make sense. I would also run around like a chicken with his head cut off if I was lined up against a twenty-two man defense every week. No wonder he looks so confused back there.
  19. I second that and the same goes for DD.
  20. Our offensive scoring numbers are inflated this year due to the anomaly against SMU and the 112 scoring opportunities against FIU. This team's offense is clearly the worst since the Bad News Bears minus McEnroe's wife and the juvenile delinquent. Too bad Buttermaker is not available.
  21. Since our offense is too sophisticated and complicated for our players to figure out, why not just do a QB sneak on every play? They know we're going up the middle anyway, and we have three starting quarterbacks that need to be utilized. Besides, it would burn the clock and minimize mistakes, give our punter much needed practice for the future, and our coaches wouldn't have to strain their brains trying to figure out which non-existent hole to run through. Since we know we're going to lose anyway, it would really be a win win situation for everyone!
  22. I don't know how many people will show, but if you sit the entire game in our offensive endzone you won't have to worry about getting hit by any footballs. Also, don't forget your telescope.
  23. First game that I haven't attended, watched, or listened to in several years. Glad I forgot to take the radio on the golf course. Smart move on my part. If we have the same coaching staff next year I am providing ZERO support to our university and boycotting every home game. Two former QB's running the show and many high school teams could score as well as we have. Absolutely pitiful coaching staff.
  24. It wouldn't surprise me either. We can't afford another couple of years of ineptitude with NO progress toward the future building of this program. Better or more established programs can survive a decade or more with pitiful losing teams, but I don't think we have that luxury here at North Texas.
  25. "enrollment tops 28,000 students, making UTSA the fourth largest university in Texas, Buskirk and others remain optimistic that change is coming." That part of the article is obviously erroneous (UT, A&M, UNT, Houston), but I wouldn't put it past them in coming up with a D-1 program in the near-term. Without even considering our own Troy, FAU, and FIU, look how quickly schools like UAB, USF, and even UCF went from basically nothing to members of major conferences. Maybe we need to start emulating the strategic planning of schools which have been playing football 70-80 years less than we have. For some reason, newcomers to D-1 football seem to be a lot better than old North Texas at coming up with a plan to succeed at the game of big-time college football. It's really kind of sad.
