  1. Ellygable for what? Has he lost his ellygability?
  2. Other than a lot of 1-5 hour road trips, the only nice thing about the old SLC. Wonder what ever happened to that Tony Worrell. Sweet baseline jumper.
  3. Perfect post GrayeagleOne. Everything you say is true. Case closed.
  4. We may not be big-time yet, but I think that our talent level is a little better than slightly above average. I would give us a 7 on the pure talent scale. I guess where we are on the coaching scale is TBD. I sure hope he has got the guys in there shooting FT's during this off period. A guard oriented team like ours that misses this many free throws is going to have problems winnning the close ones.
  5. I guess you're a bit more conservative than I. My personal finances would be very boring if I hadn't taken some of the risks that I have in life. Sometimes you just got to go for the gusto sort of speak. Maybe we'll get lucky and this argument will become a moot issue upon USA's invite after some immediate Dodgeball success.
  6. It would be nice if we could do the same thing with the SBC schools. For example, since we no longer have to travel over mountains by covered wagon, the difference between a Boise/Reno/Fresno/San Jose trip, and a Miami/Miami/Troy/Muts trip is basically irrelevant. An occasional Hawaii trip is only a positive as far as I'm concerned. I would love an all Texas/regional conference situation, but unfortunately we are where we are and that ain't gonna change any time soon. Personally, I think we were typically short-sighted by not taking the plunge into the WAC. The finances would of worked themselves out one way or another. But that's only my humble opinion of course.
  7. Didn't a short and slow guy with big high school numbers sign there a few years back? I think his initials were TD.
  8. Yeah I think he's too short also. His center of gravity is way too low to be able to handle all of the 5' 9"- 6' RB's whom he'll be asked to tackle. I also think that Coach Dodge is way to short to be a D1 head coach. How the hell is he supposed to see over all of those towering 6' line judges? Just a hopeless situation.
  9. She should definitely be on the hot seat. She has had some pretty decent recruits with very limited results. Time to start looking for a replacement RV.
  10. Come on guys, we have to give the guy at least until the end of the year because there's no way we could attract a decent coach to our little murder capitol of the world. Excuse me while I bolt my doors and load my shotgun.
  11. Since when is 6' 225 undersized for an 18 year old LB? Does the undersized talk mean that he's more like 5'10" 200? Just wondering, but it sounds like a good pickup either way.
  12. Looking at the stats, anyone else think it's time for Sturns to get more minutes at Bell's and occasionally Young's expense? Sturns is getting roughly 20 min. a game to Bells 30, and I think it's time to reverse those numbers for a guy who is statistically near the top per minute in many categories. Sure the turnovers are a problem, but he seems to be improving his steal/turnover ratio lately. Not knocking Bell's contributions at the point, but I think Sturns deserves to get somewhere near the 30 min. per game that KD and Watson will likely be getting from here on out. Sometimes I wonder if Sturns still has one foot in JJ's doghouse from the events of last year.
  13. I do. Caught the end when I got back to the condo. Just happened to be driving back from Houston tonight and there was only religious programming on 88.3. Just wondering if anyone knows if radio coverage has been discontinued down in Southeast Texas. Thanks.
  14. The game wasn't on the radio tonight down in the Conroe (88.3 - Houston/Conroe) area. No big problem tonight with this depressing loss, but does anyone know if they've stopped coverage? They weren't on for a couple of other games during the holidays either.
  15. I like the hires also. I'm guessing that TD is pretty much going to be our OC, but I'm still a bit concerned about who's going to run the defense. I'm willing to put my faith in Dodge's decisions for now, but I'm not sure I'll feel too comfy if we end up with no veteran (college/pro) coaching presence on the defensive side. We shall see.
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the name change occur in '88? That would mean NTSU went away 18 going on 19 years ago.
  17. I agree. If Stewart is capable (size) of getting the starting nod over Howerton at center the following year, we'll likely start two Harolds, two Collins, and a Roderick. On the other hand, who knows who JJ might pick up between now and then. The future looks bright to me!
  18. Ditto. As long as we win, people can call us "The Beagles" and we can use Snoopy as our mascot for all I care.
  19. I do agree with you about the never ending pessimism among some on this board. Some people seem to think that past performance is always indicative of future results which is simply not true. To say that we can't win the SBC tourney simply because we haven't beat every team that we were supposed to beat (N.O. and UTA) is like saying that Kansas can't win their tourney because they lost to Oral Roberts (5-6) and Depaul (8-5). It would be great if we could win them all, but that only seems to work for the truly great teams. I've been following this team since the late 70's so I've had plenty of disappointments to deal with in my time. At the very least, this team looks to me to have more relative talent than any since the Blakeley era, so I'm not about to say we can't win the tourney simply because JJ hasn't taken us anywhere during his tenure. Not only is this a new year and a different basketball team, but there's no doubt that JJ has had to deal with a bit of a learning curve in becoming a D1 head coach. Just how much he has learned at this point is certainly a matter for debate. We shall see over the next couple of months. Merry Christmas!
  20. Where's all this negativity coming from with ruling out the NCAA's? We just beat our main competition a few days ago on the road without our #1 scorer! I would say our chances are a solid 50/50 of winning the SBC tourney. Our team certainly is talented enough, and it might just finally be our time for a little overdue luck.
  21. Since when did Steve Nash start writing for the Star Telegram?
  22. Having grown up in Houston watching a lot of Rice games, I do have a soft spot for the Owls but am pulling for the Trojans. I still really don't appreciate the way the Owls acted when we whipped them a few years back. Besides, I recently got to cheer for Rice when I watched them make the Punies cry at Rice Stadium a few weeks ago. They looked pretty good in their fourth quarter come back, but I give Troy a decent chance of pulling it off if they can get their offense untracked.
  23. Hopefully a lot of confidence, a little more organization, and some game situation practice time for our bench guys like Howerton , Edwards, and Mangrum. I'm interested to see what those three guys can do with some serious minutes.
  24. Five losses means we only lose once before the conference tournament. Less than five losses means we win out in the regular season. I like this team but either case would surprise me. Two more regular season losses + the tournament loss would give us six losses and almost certainly an NIT berth. Any more than that gets questionable. Let's just win the SBC tournament and make it simple. If this team continues to come together (with KD), I wouldn't completely rule out an upset in the NCAA's. We've got talent, depth, and experience inside and out.
  25. Tough loss. One thing is for sure, we have had a tough time slowing down the opposition's star player on the road all season. The team stud torched us with big numbers at Rice, Nebraska, and now New Orleans. This team is gonna have to step up defensively in a big way against Western Kentucky on Tuesday.
