  1. Bring 'em on! Maybe Webb would be into the idea of a little power forward action down the road also?
  2. We have very little history of doing so, but I would guess that an overseas big man would also be a possibility. I've always thought that we are situated well for picking up some international talent, but it rarely seems to happen for us in any sport. I would love for us to find some kind of a diamond in the rough from the foreign b-ball world.
  3. Yeah, the JC vs CC comparisons don't really work across the board. Florida and California CC's have some very strong athletic programs as does the aforementioned San Jacinto. The DCCCD basketball programs are non-scholarship NJCAA D-3, so they are usually a bit weaker than some of the higher classified JC/CC programs. The best player I recall out of the DCCCD was a guy named Ollie Hoops who tore up the court many moons ago at Richland College. Kind of an easy basketball name to remember.
  4. I thought we decided to quit doing that last fall?
  5. It should be a part of the Denton flagship campus. That not being the case will almost be as short-sighted down the road as letting San Marcos take the Texas State name. UNT Law School = GOOD, not directly affiliated with Denton = BAD!!!
  6. By the look of his stats, sounds like a big athletic guard that can take it to the hole. A little weak on the three, but certainly sounds like he's worth going for in a big way.
  7. Yeah, Sturns can look NBAish one minute and Junior Highish the next. For awhile there in the second half of the season he looked like he was starting to overcome his wildness, but a couple of those turnovers against Memphis were pretty sad. His problems may not be the easiest to correct, but I hope that JJ somehow finds a way to harness the obvious talent.
  8. I agree in a big way that all of the new attention is great, but why only "a few dozen" at the scrimmage? I have to admit that I'm one of the many that couldn't make it because I'm down in Houston finalizing some tax season stuff, but I would of thought a couple of hundred or more would show. Oh well, hopefully we'll all be there for the next one when the offense is ready to show their stuff!
  9. He was a heck of a point guard. Handled the ball well and did a great job of dishing the ball to Worrell and Morgan when needed.
  10. I would think that "around six foot" NBA guards would be relevant to the discussion since they were either excellent D1 players or would have been excellent D1 players. I guess if you only want current college players in that size range, it's easy to just look at the two "little" point guards that played in the national championship game tonight. Conley and Green aren't too bad at running their respective teams.
  11. Deon Hunter did a pretty nice job taking us to our first tourney berth also.
  12. I hope Meager does well, but if it's down to he and Woody, I hope one of them gets switched to WR. Phillips and probably Tune are nothing but quarterbacks, and we're looking at a roster full of QB's when we could probably use another upperclassman to contribute at WR. I guess Woody could also be considered at DB, but we seem to have a boatload of talented guys on the roster in that area.
  13. Well at least we lost to the team that lost to the team that made it to the final. For what it's worth.
  14. Tell that to Allan Iverson among many others. Double MVP Steve Nash hasn't done too badly either at a short six two. Unless you're a dwarf, height isn't a huge issue for a point guard with the requisite skills.
  15. Other way around. Howerton has got some work to do, but I bet he's a pretty good contributor by the time he's a senior.
  16. I drove through and toured the campus and Carbondale couple of years ago and wasn't overly impressed. Not even in the same league as the North Texas campus.
  17. And since we're talking JC, let us not forget that North Texas' own North Lake College made the NJCAA D3 final four this year after winning it all in '06.
  18. We lost to a Great 8 team at least, and I have the Tigers picked as the champion next weekend. It'll make the team feel a lot better about themselves if they end up having lost to the eventual champ in a tight game. Sorry for the Ags, but they had their chances tonight. They certainly got Memphis out of their full court run and gun game. Great pressure D by Memphis when it counted most.
  19. Greenmean, I don't agree with some of the things you say and don't currently have time to go into them, but you have to understand that a lot of the smu talk is just plain old fashioned smack talk. Sure some of it can get a little mean spirited at times and many times there is justification for that IMHO, but most of it is just for fun. Also, I'm not going to pull for a team, a school, or anything for that matter SIMPLY because they are from my state. They have to show that they deserve my support before I will support them regardless of their state or area of origin. And that opinion is coming from a native born loyal seventh generation Texan.
  20. Does this mean we should pull for SMU should they ever be our lone state representative?
  21. Not to really put major blame on any individual players, but Sturns, Bell, and Young contributed very little to the bottom line and we made too many mistakes to overcome their pressure D on our 3 point game. We looked good most of the game, especially the big guys, but we just couldn't quite get over the hump. Those runs, not the pulled pork kind, will get you every time.
  22. If SMU could hang with them and almost win a few days ago then we should be able to do AT LEAST as well. Anyone think an SMU team that lost twice to both Tulsa and Rice is better than us? I say we win by three. I would give the details, but my crystal ball only gives the final results.
  23. I watched it on TV also. I remember Tony Worrell, Deon Hunter, a freshman Ronnie Morgan, and Wendell Williams. Can anyone refresh my memory as to the other key players?
  24. Have to start Howerton and Jackson to execute that strategy. By the way, anyone know how Jackson's leg is holding out? His big body could come in handy.
  25. Yeah it could be a long day because we are known to play a lot of overtime games. Luckily we've been winning them lately.
