Bring on Mean Joe! With the recuits he'd bring in, we'd likely be top ten material in 2-3 years. Forgive me if I'm dreaming, but a TD/Mean Joe combo would be hard to beat.

Yeah, there's no doubt that something has got to be done before next season. I have very little doubt that most of our relatively undersized and slower 1AA defenses under Corky, Parker, and Simon would be doing a much better job. Defense and Special teams have generally been our strong points here for decades, and do we really have to give those up in order to have a strong offense? No!!! I love the Spread Offense, but this "Spread Defense" has got to go because it ain't gonna work at this level. The opposing offense doesn't even have to work very hard to spread us out because we're doing it voluntarily. They're plain and simply overwhelming us. No excuses for this with the overall quality of our athletes on defense. If our offense had been inept yesterday, they could of hung 150 points on us.

No, I don't think we are the worst, but the answer to that question will probably be answered over the next three weeks. On the other hand, it's pretty obvious that defensively we are pretty damn close. No excuses for that defensive performance tonight.

I agree. Bennett wouldn't be a bad option to consider.

I got slammed some almost a year ago for saying that TD went a little too far with his High School hires, and I think that time has told us that I was not too much out of line for expressing that opinion. I'm STILL very optimistic about the future of the TD program, but he has plain and simply got to admit that he made a mistake in some of his initial coaching hires. Defense is just as important as offense in winning football games. I really hope that Dodge starts to recognize that fact and decides to bring in a couple of good and EXPERIENCED guys. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the progress of our offense, and despite the loss, tonight was a nice night to be a North Texas supporter.

Guys like Green are usually wise to bite the bullet and sign up for a stint in the military. He'd likely learn some basic manners there and would probably be a lot better off in the long run. Maybe he'll attend the game this Saturday and be lucky enough to make some contacts on the other sideline.

Yeah, my opinion is that anyone who is a racist is an ignorant punk. And when I say that, I'm talking about white, black, brown, yellow, red, purple, pink, and every other possible color, race, religion, or creed imaginable. That includes football players and coaches as well as frat boys. This is getting very old guys and gals. You've got decent people and jerks in all of the above, and I am truly starting to believe that the guys who started this are simply jerks. Let's just put this obvious BS behind us and quit feeding this ridiculous frenzy. Have a good evening and let's beat Navy!!!

Interesting to see that Okie State didn't make it. Very well could be an upset in the making in Denton if we are able to get off to a nice start.

Nt Daily- Dodge Addresses Athletes Accusations
foutsrouts replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I spent close to two weeks in Lawton about 10 years ago working mainly in probably the roughest part of town. I wouldn't really of classified that area as a "hood", just your typical smallish city with mainly blue collar type neighborhoods. I went pretty much all over the city, and I never felt as if there was a heavy "hoodish" type presence anywhere I went. Kind of reminded me of Waco if you took away Baylor and the Lake Waco/Valley Mills areas, and replaced them with a large military base. I enjoyed the Wichita Mountains north of town, but that's about the only thing that stood out to me about the place. It's just a short interstate drive north of Wichita Falls. -
The fact that North Texas competed in 1AA back in '92 is totally irrelevant to the conversation. And btw, some of the greatest NFL names of all time have come out of 1AA as well as easily the two most heralded players in the Dallas Cowboys' '07 starting lineup. Also, the current Cowboys' roster includes 16 players who played college ball at D1AA or lower. So yes I guess you could say that the NFL is "teeming" with players who played college ball below Division 1A.

I think it is Chatman out of Conroe instead of (DE) Chapman out of China Springs. But yeah, it's starting to sound like a couple of guys that don't like the new regime's approach to discipline. At least I hope that's all there is to it.

I was kind of thinking along those lines as well. I guess it's possible that many of the coaches on this team have grown accustomed to treating their players a little more like kids than as adults, and that Green may have misconstrued this treatment as being racist. I seriously doubt that this incident had anything to do with racism, but maybe learning how to deal with grown men instead of kids is just another transition some of our staff is going to have to go through. On the other hand, Green may just be a jerk looking for attention. Contacting the NAACP to look into an incident such as this sounds to me like overkill at best. I guess you really have to know the characters involved on a personal level to be able to make a judgement on what's really going on here. Either way, I think Vito went a little too far with his article. No reason to create a cloud when it's very likely that one doesn't exist.

Wow! Sounds like this team must have quite a defense!
-
Sorry to hear it. Guess we picked a good time for an off week.
-
Why not? Just because we lost again? Hmmm.....

I hope you're not talking about me. I wouldn't be that easy. Again, goodnight.

Sounds like the Taco Cabana crowd is out and about tonight. Time to sleep it off.

My brother, a rabid NT fan, had to be in Houston tonight on business and TRIED to listen to the game on the Conroe, Tx arm of the Mean Green radio network. He tells me that he was listening to a close game driving through downtown Houston at the end of the third quarter, when suddenly the song Hallelujah Hallelujah began playing. He thought it was just a break in the action, but that was not the case as the game was no longer being broadcast on that channel. Now I'm a fairly religious guy myself, and attend church on a fairly regular basis, but they need to either broadcast our games or not broadcast our games. I've experienced the same thing in the past for both our B-ball and F-ball games. It would be nice to know if you're going to be cut off in the heat of the action. I've sent them my two cents on the subject, and have included their email address below for anyone else who thinks that this should change. Maybe RV needs an email also. comments@thewordfm.com

I agree. Our plays tend to be slow to develop, and with the constant blitzing, it's too late for Jamario to find a hole by the time he gets the ball in his hands. He's being overwhelmed just as he was when opponents would stack the box against us last year. We need some quick hitting plays to keep the defense a little more honest. One way to do that would be to stick Vizza under center every once in a while.

I agree that there has been some definite progress off the field. I remember a time not too many years ago when tailgating at Fouts consisted of a couple of guys hanging out in the parking lot drinking beer. That has changed considerably. I also remember a time when a couple of thousand people would sit in a dimly lit open ended stadium listening to an inaudible PA announcer, and gazing at a high school caliber scoreboard accounting for a game in which very few people really cared about the outcome. That has also changed considerably. I also remember when we had an apathetic administration that would of liked nothing better than to eliminate the football program entirely at North Texas. Again, that has changed considerably. I'm just saying that things are changing for the better off the field, and that all is not lost just because we are 1-6 after all of this big TD buildup. Please criticize the happenings on the field to your hearts content, but I'm still confident that the tide has turned and that we will be headed upward here before too long. I still believe that Dodge is good enough at his profession to make the necessary adjustments for us to start winning football games very soon. Let's start with a nice crowd and a big win this Saturday against MUTS!

The Cougars are pretty tough this year but I doubt they will end up in New Orleans. Same goes for Central Florida based on the way they basically played Texas to a draw. Otherwise, CUSA is obviously pretty weak.

After Seeing The Troy Game Over And Over
foutsrouts replied to nautique's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, it was very much a team loss and that includes the coaching staff. Everyone has been ragging on the defense all season (justifiably), but maybe the offense needs to be let in on the act a bit. To me, everything looks a little telegraphed out there and I am hopeful that some adjustments are on the drawing board. I still wish Jamario could get more touches, especially in the passing game, and it would be nice if Vizza would get under center on occasion to keep the defense a little more honest. Just my humble opinion of course, but I am still more than willing to give the staff some time to get this thing going regardless of how much I hate to lose. I have no doubt that this has been a learning experience for everyone involved, and our schedule this year has probably turned out to be a little more difficult than expected. Troy has a pretty damn good team. -
I'm don't know exactly what Dennis' free throw numbers were in high school, but I do know that he is a very good free throw shooter. There's definitely reason for optimism in that area this year as Willingham shot 83% at smu last year, McCoy shot 84% at Mesa CC last year, and Thompson averaged 80% from the line his senior year in high school. I just hope that Bell has worked really hard since last season at improving his game from the line. We need to hit those one and ones down the stretch this year.
-
Yeah, we have now had ten months under this new regime to work on this area, so I don't think we can really say that the staff has not had enough time to get the guys in a solid routine. I don't know if lack of conditioning has been a major factor this season, but I do know that there is always room for improvement. Hope it becomes a major priority.

Excellent! I'm hoping it's time for a bad Dolphins team to find out what they have in PC. If they'll just give him a reasonable chance, I think they will find that they have a guy with a little Emmitt Smith in him. Just how much Emmitt Smith he possesses is yet to be determined.
