Pretty damn stupid IMHO. But then again I ain't the coach.

And what percentage of 5A schools reside in West Texas? Don't have the time at the moment to do the research, but it's pretty small. Recruiting is such an inexact science that it's ridiculous to try and narrow it down by region or even school classification. I say let's find the best players wherever they reside. Hell, look at the Cowboy's roster. It's got plenty of guys that were basically "Rivals rejects" (including Romo) and they seem to be doing pretty well.

Well, I guess in some ways we're lucky that we were 2-10. Not that I don't think we have great potential, but even smu would have a hard time hiring someone with our record.

I'll be there. Btw, isn't The Pit a covered stadium? .

South Alabama Trustees Say Y E S To Football

San Marcos and San Antonio (eventually) aren't too far off. I think Florida A&M still has aspirations. Wouldn't be surprised to see Appalachian give it a shot either. -
South Alabama Trustees Say Y E S To Football

Here comes another one. The way they keep popping up, The Belt will have a conference playoff before you know it. -
Yeah, we were way too tentative. Personally, I don't think that Texas team is that far superior to ours. Give us a month or two of development and we shall see.

Replay Of The Game Is On Fsn Now
foutsrouts replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Just finished watching it and I think that we're damn near as good as they are. We were just way to tenative in the first half. It was amazing how good we were by the last 15 minutes or so of the game when we loosened up. We get Wooden, White, and Dennis all on the same page from here on out, and I think that we've got something really special here. The only guys that I think are playing way below potential at this point are McCoy and Willingham. White is simply amazingly bigtime, and it's too bad that Wooden had to sit most of the first half. Btw, I think some of the praise directed at us was an attempt to make UT fans aware that they were playing a real team. Not all of it of course, but some of it. It seems that Jim Haller has always been friendly to NT. -
I wouldn't rule us out if we can hang with them in the first half. Can't let 'em run away from us in the first 10-15 minutes. Of course, we're going to have to shoot the ball REALLY well to win.

Wine, Women, Song, and Great Academics among other things. What else is there in life besides great athletics?

Although we played well against Monroe, on the flip side we could have easily been 0-12 . Man that would of been ugly.

So if we become "Denton University" (ala Clemson, Auburn, etc.), would we be removed from this obviously derogatory "directional school" classification? The "directional" crap is all a bunch of BS in my opinion, as every school that uses a city in their name covers less territory than schools that cover regions.

I really don't see how ANYONE can still defend this guy. Why are we high school out there on defense when we pretty much have decent D1 talent? What other explanation is there? I would say the same thing about Drake with the Special Teams, but our DL (which he also coaches) has been pretty solid most of the time. Our strong points here for decades has always been our defense and special teams, and those two areas have basically collapsed this year. We need a VETERAN defensive coordinator in here, and I not just talking about someone who has served in the military.

Wow. Who'd a thunk it. Monroe, the giant killer in FB and BB. For some reason I'm starting to like them better than I liked Northeast Louisiana.

Here's a more accurate analogy. Mendoza came from being a tax partner at a small firm last year and took over this year as the tax partner of a very large firm. That large firm, which returned all of their tax personnel and clients from the previous year, suddenly went from "middle of the road" to the worst in the country. I don't think that anyone is blaming him completely for the performance of the entire firm, but it's pretty obvious to me that the guy got in over his head and needs to move on. Maybe he's better suited for that small firm in which he came.

Sorry to hear that our crowd was so ridiculously small. Would of been there if I wasn't committed to being in the Houston area for Thanksgiving weekend. I went from an Aggie/Horn crowd of probably the largest to ever see a football game in the State of Texas, to a Saturday afternoon Rice/Tulsa crowd of maybe 2k. I saw some good football this weekend, but I spent a lot of my time today with the radio to my ear in Rice Stadium. Glad we pulled this one out.

You've already penciled us in for losses against WKU and FIU? Naw, I'm predicting 3-9. -
Went To An Aggie Horn Game For The First Time Today
foutsrouts posted a topic in Mean Green Football
My brother and I both wore green today and had some interesting conversations related to the Mean Green etc. in the tailgate areas from both sides. Overall, I think we're getting more respect from the guys who have generally thought that they are the only two big kids on the block. Enjoyed the 85k environment, and hope that we can have something approaching that neighborhood (40k+) sometime in the not too distant future. Just thought that I would open up a forum for anyone else who attended or has attended that "Turkey Time" game. The Agg's seemed pretty pumped up and I was happy about the outcome. Let's whip WKU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
I took a couple of accounting classes at UTA one summer and thought it was a cold and depressing place. Only way I'll go back there is to watch my Mean Green whip up on some Mavericks. North Texas 88 UT Stepchildren 64

Wac Had Bcs Bowl Champ, Now Has 2 In Top 25
foutsrouts replied to PlummMeanGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
I have always agreed that the WAC would not be all that WACKY for us. I do like CUSA for the proximity games with Houston, Rice, Smuu, and Tulsa, but the rest of that conference doesn't do much for me at all. I also believe, as a guy who grew up around SWC sports, that a couple of those schools are going to try and keep us out of CUSA at all costs. Does this mean that we should bolt for the WAC if they'll have us? Probably not at this point IMHO. I might say differently if I didn't think that the WAC and MWC were pretty near some kind of consolidation. On the other hand, I guess it's possible that a WAC/MAC consolidation could include us down the road if we quickly jumped to the WAC, but that would be major speculation. I think that we're basically stuck where we are for the moment until we prove ourselves on the field and improve ourselves with the stadium. Once that happens, we may have at least a couple of options to pursue. Hey, the SBC is proving itself to be a lot better all around than I would of expected a couple of years ago. Let's see if we can make it happen on th field, the court, and HOPEFULLY on the diamond. -
Didn't his cousin Lou, who wanted to be our head coach a few years back, say something similarly stupid back in the 90's? Maybe it runs in the family.
-
Yeah, but those numbers are probably a little skewed due to the number of "body bag" games that Belt teams generally play right off the bat. Nice to see Alabama getting an opportunity to try on some of those body bags. Even nicer to see that the body bags were provided by a Belt team.

Larry Bird To Make An Appearance For Indiana State

Is it true that he may be putting on a halftime shooting exhibition? Going to be a great Saturday afternoon to be at The Pit! -
I agree that Mendoza needs to go, but not based solely on ASU's final drive for the win. We just got too conservative in many ways and lost the game. Those things are going to happen and there's no doubt that this one hurts. Not to take ANYTHING away from FRESHMAN Micah Mosely's nice game, but I still wish that we would get SENIOR Jamario more involved if we're going to keep it on the ground most of the game. Jamario has more breakaway abilities and that's what we could of used tonight. Over 5 yards a carry for the year and he hardly gets a chance to get it going. Not asking for a return to Buick ball by any means, but Jamario's limited involvement this year just ain't right to me.
