  1. Simply the love of dead presidents and the hate of hard work.
  2. Yeah, I was born and raised near the intersection of Chimney Rock and the SW Frwy. It's still OK around there now, but things start to get pretty bad when you head a couple of miles south on the freeway toward Sharpstown and that hotel. It's not like it's a battle zone, but there are certainly better areas.
  3. I think we'll score more than 17 as long as we can hold on to the ball. Whether or not we can pressure their big QB and how well we can hold their running game in check are the obvious keys to me. I know we're young and lack experience and depth in many areas, but this game could possibly be interesting.
  4. Hmmm...A touch of respect for a team that's projected near the bottom of the SBC. Probably respecting our likely ability to score. With all of our changes on defense, and with all of the JC help coming into Manhattan, I think both teams are a mystery to most.
  5. It'll be a cakewalk. NT 52 KS 24
  6. I would hope so, since we have only been playing football EIGHTY-FOUR years longer than South Florida. They barely started fielding a team before the most recent Iraqi War, and we were fielding teams well before WORLD WAR I. Pretty incredible.
  7. I kind of wish that the Tulsa game was going to be blacked out locally, but nevertheless some very good news overall. Nice exposure.
  8. So if I show up with my grocery cart full of beer cans do you think they'll let me in?
  9. I agree. It's not like we can't pull him after the first series if he's getting manhandled. Personally, I like having a quick and tough guy like Gill covering Vizza's arse.
  10. Hell, they even got booze out there now. LOL!! I remember when people in those areas had to drive down to Walnut Hill or over to Lake Dallas just to grab a brew. Damn, I must be getting old.
  11. Give me a break. Our business school is number two behind our music school as far as national/regional prestige and perceptions are concerned. Do we not want to improve our academic programs as well as our athletic programs? That building is totally outdated. I graduated from the business school close to twenty years ago, and I see no basis for arguing against a major upgrade. Besides, who do you think will provide the big bucks in the future for our future endeavors here at North Texas? My bet would be business and law school graduates. North Texas has got to start thinking ahead.
  12. ULM because they used to be Northeast Louisiana. FAU because their coach thinks he is the reincarnation of Vince Lombardi.
  13. Good idea. After the students approve the fee increase, we could brick the pedestrian walkway over 35 with all of the graduating Seniors bricks, and honor them with a plaque for all to see that says "Gateway to the House That Youth Built."
  14. Nice article. With that kind of discipline and dedication I bet he gets a chance somewhere if not in GB. Is the article trying to say that he's closer to 5'9"? Never stood next to him, but I thought he was at least 5'11". No matter with his hands, speed, and overall skills.
  15. Maybe it was the academic "guideance" that he received at Auburn. LOL! Sorry, I just couldn't resist the spelling police opportunity. Will football season please get here!
  16. Crow really ain't that bad. It tastes a lot like chicken.
  17. I don't know what our graduate school (MBA) capacity is running at these days, but with the price of tuition, all we would have to do is pull in a couple of new quality students each month to justify the cost. I like the idea if the boards are done nicely, and I think it's about time that we SERIOUSLY make an attempt at entering the competitive MBA market. Too many other schools are pulling ahead of us in that area.
  18. Very true. It also seems that some former 1990's 1AA school from Idaho made quite a splash a couple of seasons ago which culminated in a big win over some school from north of the Red River. Individual school perceptions can be one thing, while collective school perceptions can be quite another.
  19. Yeah, and every team in the SBC (except ULL) moved up from 1AA since the 90's. Can't say that benefits our national perception a whole lot. I'm not really trying to bash The Belt because I think we do have several up and coming programs and universities, I'm just expressing what I think is the obvious national consensus in regard to conference rankings. That could change eventually, but I guess it just takes awhile to create history.
  20. Oh, I agree with what you are saying in several areas, but if a "1AA" football school wants to move up in stature, which "1A" conference will they look to for membership? I think the obvious answer to that question tells the story in many ways. Perception often does have some validity.
  21. LOL! It's really not worth arguing about anymore, but I guess that I will throw in a couple of pennies. I agree that we HAVE GOT TO GET A BASEBALL TEAM ASAP, but are FAU/FIU/Troy so much geographically closer and more prestigious than Fresno/Nevada/Boise and the rest of the Wacky gang? The bottom line to me is that the WAC has MUCH more history and prestige than the SBC, and that The Belt is at the bottom of 1A in both fact and perception. Now, do we want to run off and try to join the WAC because of this, or should we do the good old NT thing and stay put because it's too expensive or whatever? I don't know, but I do not think it should be based on marginal economics and geography. There's a lot more involved than that. I guess that we can just sit and wait for the next generation to make that decision for us like we always have (tongue in cheek). BOL to us in our pursuit of these various alternatives. GO FRESNO!
  22. I was there when we beat Rice pretty decisively in Houston back in '88. They didn't seem to like losing to 1AA North Texas and really didn't take it like men. Same year that we were robbed in Austin. Can't believe that it has been twenty years.
  23. If these things happen we can Get Back to where we once belonged.
  24. Even worse for the 200 meters.
  25. The top half of the WAC ain't bad, but La Tech is nowhere near that top half. Their superiority complex about being in the WAC is kind of like a 300 pounder bragging about her sorority being full of beautiful women. Just doesn't mean much.
