  1. Our inability to score once we get in or near the redzone is ridiculous. Dodge needs to start studying D1 spread offenses (TT etc.), and maybe he can come up with some clue how to compete at this level. This ain't high school, and he just doesn't seem to be making the proper adjustments when we get ourselves in position to score. The fact that we move the ball fairly well but cannot score is a pretty telling stat. Glad to see that our special teams are showing some improvement, at least statistically. Our defense leaves me speechless. It's like we're outnumbered two to one out there.
  2. Thank you SO much students! You probably have no idea how much this means to us old MEANGREEN fans, as well as how much it can potentially mean to the value of your future degrees. Thanks again, and GO MEANGREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. You can always quit tomorrow. That's what I always say and it works just fine for me.
  4. Change my name from foutsrouts to foutsisaparkinglot.
  5. I'm a Texans fan also, and the exact moment I turned the game on, Cobbs was catching the 80 yard screen pass. Everyone in the house thought that the place was on fire the way I was yelling for him to go all the way. I wasn't happy that he didn't get more PT after those two TD's. The Cowboys blew it by not giving the local kid a chance.
  6. That would be quite a trick. Monroe will have their chance to whip up on us soon enough.
  7. Well, if the whole team ended up in jail, and no one was willing to bail them out including the U.S. Government, wouldn't that mean that we only lose the game one to nothing? Sorry, I just couldn't resist!
  8. I wish that I were joking, but based on the way we have looked thus far I honestly don't think that 17 or 18 would get the job done. We've looked outmanned on the field at least two to one in many games this season. Maybe we can rekindle the Navy game offense and at least come close to outscoring them, but that's one BIG maybe.
  9. Dallas Times Herald closed suddenly in December of '91. I used to work there. Can't believe it has been 17 years.
  10. Yeah, Meager is a DD recruit and with only a few exceptions, you have to weigh at least 250 to get significant playing time if you are a DD recruit. Starting as a DD recruit is almost an anomaly here. Maybe Dodge will wake up, but I'm not counting on it.
  11. We sure as hell need a DB who knows how to tackle. If were not going to give him a chance at QB or WR this year, give the guy a chance back in the defensive backfield before his eligibility expires. Based on our DB play thus far, it sure couldn't hurt.
  12. I agree 100% that the QB needs to mix things up in short yardage situations by getting down under center. Running the same formation play after play is ridiculous and does nothing to keep the defense honest. I think that is a major reason why we can move the ball, but cannot get it into the endzone with any regularity. I think it definitely cost us a couple of games last year. His offensive philosophy may have worked at SLC, but it's just not going to fly at this level without some adjustments. Dodge has got to learn to adapt.
  13. If we go 0-12, I wouldn't be surprised if Dodge decides to cut his losses and leave voluntarily. Of course that might hinge on his ability to get a quality job at some level elsewhere. After all of the buildup, and after all of his success prior to coming to NT, an 0-12 record would likely bum him out in a big way. I guess a lot of it would depend on just how much fight he has in him to stick it out and keep fighting. I'm sure that the stadium issue will also enter into the mix.
  14. If LaLa's RB (Fenroy) ran for 290 yds. last week against LaMo's defense, just imagine how many yards and long runs he will get against our no tackle/no turnover defense. I sure hope that he doesn't return kicks and punts also. LaLa 69 (mercy) NT 6 (missed PAT) Attendance: 7,500 show and leave before halftime
  15. I wish that I could agree with most of your optimistic post, but I don't think that I can until our coaching staff becomes a D1 coaching staff. From what I've seen so far, they are a LONG way from reaching that goal. They do not seem to have any concept of making adjustments or adapting to the opponent during the heat of the battle. Sadly to say, the only thing that they seem to be teaching this team and its followers is that they need to adapt to losing football games. Dodge seems to be coaching D1 games as if we are SLC vs Colleyville and that is just not going to work. Without even considering the HORRIBLE defense and special teams play, he just doesn't seem to understand that you cannot telegraph your offense on every play at this level. I think the fact that we piled up nearly 500 yards of total offense against one of the weakest teams in the country, and were BARELY able to score 10 points, attests to the fact that there is a very serious problem with our offensive philosophy. He needs to finally wake up and realize that he is in a different league. If he doesn't do that very soon, he has no business whatsover trying to build and coach a D1 football team IMO.
  16. I have been in and around athletics for a very long time and this team is the MOST pitiful example of team sport that I have ever witnessed above the junior high level. I'm too pissed to say anything else.
  17. They've been advertising the game all week on channel 21. Would have been nice if we could have had all of this exposure during a season when we had something worth exposing. Based on what we've seen so far this year, this team should be kept under wraps. Hopefully, FIU represents a real opportunity for that to change.
  18. Sounds like a plausible theory in a couple of the cases. Now this is just PURE speculation, but I hope that Dibrell didn't become a quitter partially because he sensed that his buddy was going to lose his job shortly to the son of the coach, and he and his buddy have both been discussing alternative destinations. Again, pure speculation only.
  19. We had a couple of pretty bad years back in the early 70's and then again in the early 80's, but this is the first time that I recall us achieving the illustrious #1 ranking in anything other than golf and a couple of brief stints in the 1AA football rankings. Congrat's guys!
  20. I guess that 24 would mean that we score 4 touchdowns and no extra points, because 3 extra points and a field goal sounds like an impossibility to me. Unless of course we can quickly find someone off of the women's soccer team to take over on extra points. To tell you the truth that might not be such a bad idea. If we can find a soccer gal who can consistently make a 20 yard field goal, it might bring in some nice publicity and even swing some female votes toward voting for the stadium proposal. Hmmmmmmmm.......
  21. No way in hell can that defense I saw in Houston hold ANYONE to 9 points in a 4 quarter game. Also, I would not count on us ever scoring an even 21 points this year because that would generally require success on three extra point attempts. Oh well, since this is probably our best chance for a win this year, I'll go ahead and stick with the Koolaid induced prediction of: North Texas 37 FIU 34
  22. I spend about a third of my time around Houston, and the rest in North Texas so I'm getting ragged on both ends of I-45. Rice is getting more pub. in Houston than I've seen in a long time, and unfortunately that pub. tends to expose our ineptitude more than a little.
  23. It's difficult to argue with any of those suggestions. Especially the points about somehow learning how to TACKLE and finding SOME way to avoid these constant mistakes on special teams. The tackling actually looks worse than last year, and the punt/kick coverage seems to basically be in a foot race to get to the opponents redzone. They tend to overrun everytime. It was amazing that Rice didn't break one all the way yesterday.
  24. We probably have around 10,000 males on campus who still have some eligibility left, so maybe we should go all walk on for a few years? We could play 12 bodybag games a year on the road, also have walk on coaches, and use the money that we save to build a new stadium. We might have an injury or two, but I doubt that we would do much worse than we are doing now.
  25. I wish I were joking, but I think we should let EVERY punt received drop untouched, and EVERY kick off received should simply be covered up or downed in the endzone. Also, EVERY one of our punts should be kicked straight out of bounds, and every kick off (they rarely happen) should be squibbed short and generally toward the sideline. If we had done that tonight, we would probably have only lost by something like 60-20. Sadly, I am very serious! We have high school special teams playing D1 football.
