I'll be there with one other. Think we'll do the Pourhouse before the game.

I guess he came back to hold down the fort until DD is ready to assume his rightful position.
-
No, they all just decided to leave after they finally realized that we will field no baseball team this Spring.

Yeah, the basketball attendance is particularly frustrating. I drive all the way from Irving and PAY for 90% of the games, yet we can't even get a couple of thousand students to walk over and watch a pretty good product for FREE. What do we have to give them to come? I do appreciate the students who support the program(s), but our attendance is downright pitiful. Considering the size of the Denton area these days, we ought to be getting a couple of thousand attendees just from the non-affiliated local population. Really sad.

How Will The Remaining Season Turn Out ?
foutsrouts replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Basketball
True, and Houston, Arkansas, and Okie State aren't exactly cupcakes. If they were we would have won those games. Well, at least we would have lost in the final minute. I hope that is a habit that we are about to break. -
How Will The Remaining Season Turn Out ?
foutsrouts replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I think we sweep. I'm thinking that we are about to make the turnaround that we made around this point of the season two years ago. To you students out there, please do your best to try and get our place packed for the Little Rock game. That could be a HUGE game for the team's confidence going into the SBC tourney, and I know that I'll be bringing several to cheer us on. We've got a lot of talent on this team and I have a feeling that we're going to get it together from here on out. -
Yeah, I could tell he was playing gimpy after a tough defensive play with around 12 minutes left on Saturday night. He's a great player and a very gutsy guy, but I wish he would have pulled himself after that play. I could tell that he just wasn't himself after that. Get healthy Mr. Mangrum. We need your talent back next year!

No bitching from me on this game. I'm absolutely ecstatic that we finally had a blowout win against a pretty decent team. Hope it carries over for the rest of the season. Didn't get there until near the end of the first half so I missed most of the blowout part. From what I saw, the crowd was OK but wasn't really all that impressive. Guess I'm greedy. I know I'm dreaming, but I wish we could get a student turnout like they had at WKU today. Our pit would really rock with that kind of a student crowd. Not bitching, but Mangrum had a terrible game and I hope that was a one time event. He still looks a bit gimpy. Otherwise, I didn't see a lot worth mentioning other than that I had a great time. Let's make this a late season turnaround like we had two years ago! Amazing that we are still hanging on to second place in the West. Go Green!!!

You're certainly right that we could use a true point guard, but there have been many teams out there without a great point who seem to get by with a good overall team passing game. I guess we just don't qualify at this point, which probably means that we're going to have to shoot lights out to win the big games. I do think that JJ has got to find a guard rotation and stick with it. Since Tramiel is definitely proving to be a man on the inside, how about trying a four guard lineup with Mangrum/McCoy getting a shot at consistent playing time? It would at least give us more size/3 potential on the perimeter. Might be worth a look against certain opponents. On the other hand it's getting pretty late in the game for experimentation, but we need to settle on something.

Same old story. Play with our opponents, yet cannot pull it out at the end. Really kind of a sad season thus far. I'd like to chalk it up to the fact that we're mostly sophomores, or that we're a bit on the vertically/horizontally challenged side, but I think there is more to it than that. Come on JJ! Find us that magical FIRM lineup that takes us to the promised land! It better happen quick.
-
Definitely another upsetting loss, again. We don't seem capable of putting anybody away this year. We play directly with our competition (except Houston) in every game and cannot seem to pull it out at the end in most of the big games. I was hoping that we had finally found a clutch time go to guy earlier in the season in TT, but that unfortunately only lasted three games. I like the individual talent on this team, but we do not play together as a cohesive unit, which means that I have to attribute many of our problems to coaching. Very few fast break points for us and too many defensive breakdowns late in the game. Just a really bad passing team overall with poor decision making by almost everyone. I like the players talent and hustle a lot, but we're just not getting it done. This team is really an enigma, and I hope that JJ and company can still find a way to get it together before tourney time.

You blue state guys have all the answers.

I'll be there as well. I just hope we don't play Denver like we play everyone else. Seems like we've played to our competition in all but the Cougar game this year. Not sure that we would play much differently against the local convent team than we would against North Carolina. Hope this is the turning point game where we start to get it together.

Can't say I'm surprised. Dodge needs to go back to coaching kids, because that is all that he appears to be capable of doing. He doesn't seem to be able to make the transition from kids to adults, and IMO the players are obviously not happy with him. I wish he would just go away and end this nightmare that he has created.

We will win them. Bank on it.

Bad and sad loss. Time for JJ to make a few adjustments. Johnson's half a foot over the line on that last "three point" clanker to tie, says to me that it's time for McCoy to get some of his minutes. We need more size in the lineup. We're a bit small everywhere, and we need some bigger bodies on the outside to take a little pressure off of our big guys. Tired of losing to UTA.
-
Beat me to it. It would be nice if he could follow in the footsteps of Adrian Awasom and double as a DE.
-
Failed drunk? LOL! Yeah, we still have a few problems, but I'm still optimistic. The major thing that has worried me all year, is that we continue to have no clue as to how to put away our opponent. If we don't figure that out soon, we will lose quite a few in conference play.
-
I'm happy that we are 6-2, but I do think we have quite a few problems. I've been to most of the games this year and our opposition seems to be driving the lane at will against us. Our small guards have got to do a better job defensively because we can't just leave it up to our bigs when our opponents penetrate the lane. Offensively, we're just not doing anything great on a consistent basis. We're going to have to find a way to shoot the three on a more consistent basis if we are going to be more than just a "good" team. Good to see that TT may be making a move to become our "go to" guy. We're yet to really find out what McCoy can do, and with his size and athleticism, I would like to see what he can do on both ends of the floor. It bothers me that we have not yet been able to take a lead (other than Cameron) and run away with a game. The opponent always seems to find a way to get back into the game and take us to the wire. A blowout win would be nice. Hope it happens next Monday.

You're right about Newman. If I gave you my true feelings on the guy, my post would likely be deleted. I have an older brother who played for him before he came to North Texas. From what I've heard, it seems that virtually every person that he coached cound not stand him. Btw, my first game in Denton was the Depaul game. Wish we could bring that crowd magic back again.
-
Bye Bye, and BOL to you if you're going to start following smu, TCU, TT, UT or whomever. Rabidly following North Texas is not for everyone, and it's pretty much like having a woody for climbing Mount Everest. No matter how many blizzards, rock slides, or other obstacles you may encounter, you just have to keep on pushing forward. There really is no other choice if you are ever going to have a chance of reaching that promised land of big-time athletic accomplishment. And as MLK said, "I may not get there with you, but I want you to know tonight, that we, as a (Mean Green) people, will get to the promised land." You just gotta keep hope alive if you're gonna follow the Mean Green.

Interesting Notes From Tonights Show
foutsrouts replied to ScreamingEaglesFan's topic in Mean Green Football
How about 11 Special Teams players and 11 Special Teams Players? I guess that about covers it all. Except for the coaches of course. -
Well, I guess we could always use his experience as an electrician in troubleshooting the electrical problems we have at Fouts. Three years of work there just might pay off. Kind of kidding here, but maybe not?

Humiliating loss. I'm down in the Houston area tonight, and had every intention of making it to Hofheinz for the game since I have not been there in 3-4 years. I've been there well over a hundred times over the years since the Rockets originally played there when I was a young kid, and I'm actually glad that I couldn't make it tonight. Hopefully this was an anomaly for our team. Sounded worse than pitiful. I was hoping that this game would at least be competitive. Anyone hear what JJ said in the post game?

I still wonder why most of those Seniors have not been playing all along.
