  1. To me, it's impossible to deny the WAC opponent recognition factor. It's sad to say, but almost all of our SBC opponents are thought of as obscure (who!!) schools by most of the people who NT students and alumni associate with. I don't mean that in a snobby way personally, because I am more aware of the schools in our conference than many, but it is just kind of a fact of life. Hawaii/Fresno/Boise/NMSU/Nevada etc. vs. Monroe/Troy/FIU/FAU/MTSU etc. is really no contest to most of the people we associate with in Texas. Oh well, as usual, let's hope it works out for us.
  2. The repetition of this topic is superceded only by stadium threads. I do think that a WAC move would be a step up IF the WAC remainded stable, but let us try and look like we belong in the SBC (in FB) and not the SLC before we even talk about a WAC move. To tell you the truth, I'm not really overly impressed with the WAC, USA or the SBC. IMO, in recent years the WAC has remained relatively stable (or up) in stature, USA has clearly gone down in stature, and the SBC has clearly gone up in stature. My dream is some regional combination of USA and SBC. It may only be a dream, but it's still my dream!
  3. I'll optimistically say 6-6. I'm hoping that our offense gets close to being what it was two seasons ago, and that our defense and special teams are vastly improved. I just hope that Dodge has now been humbled enough to not be so stubbornly predictable on the offensive side of the ball this season.
  4. Nice job and BOL Mr. Spencer! Strange how our punters start making the big bucks when we are at our lowest.
  5. Give me a shovel!!
  6. Very sorry for the family and for his victims, but the guy certainly deserved some serious time. He got more than most get for a "first time" non-violent offense, and I hope that he can somehow find a way to have a productive and sober life down the road. Since I don't know the guy personally, I really don't know how likely that turn around might be. I too had a home broken into a few years back, and it made me paranoid enough to where I protect my property in every way short of wiring shotguns to all entry points. As a previous poster said, stay away from strippers and what comes with them. I've known a few guys over the years who have fallen into the sex, drugs, and beautiful stripper trap, and it usually leads you in the same direction. Straight down. Just ask Dirk.
  7. Geez Kram....If you read my very basic post, I SURE AS HELL wasn't defending West and claiming that HE was discriminated against, I was referring to the simple fact that when crimes are commited against higher income groups the punishment is often a bit more severe. If I am defending anyone, it is the hard working lower income people who often get robbed of a very HIGH PERCENTAGE of their net worth by recivitist scumbags, who regularly get slapped on the wrist several times before finally getting put away for good. As far as West getting a "better lawyer" because of all the thieving bucks that he made, don't you kind of think that maybe his cash went to "crack" since he was living that kind of lifestyle? Ya think? If you don't think that "economic discrimination" exists, I would be happy to provide you with examples that it clearly does. Just a fact of life which "most" of us are very aware of. Btw, I'm about as far away from a bleeding heart liberal as it gets, and I sure as hell ain't poor.
  8. Commit property crimes in an area where the big money developers are developing and they throw away the key. Commit property crimes in a decaying neglected area and you get a slap on the wrist. Not that he doesn't deserve to be put away for a LONG time, but economic discrimination is one form of discrimination which shows no signs of abatement. Money rules.
  9. and Eric Tramiel....
  10. Tell me if I'm wrong, but won't Riley be a 21 year old freshman early this Fall? He ain't no baby anymore, and the "extra years" that he has on him may bode well for his physical durability and decision making. Some posters seem to want to bash him before he gets his chance, which I think is absolutely ludicrous. He was without a doubt the best 5A QB in Texas, and that alone makes him damn well qualified to get a shot as THE quarterback at The University of North Texas. I'm looking forward to September.
  11. No, because I would have to live in Waco. Even Mary Hardin left town.
  12. No way I'd be "happy" with 4 wins, but after the last four seasons I'll take it.
  13. Great news! Now everyone in the Mean Green Nation begin humming the Aggie War Hymn simultaneously and this will be finalized. Man I love those Aggs!
  14. Sounds like a very good athlete who should help us out with our perimeter defensive weeknesses of last year. Could be a big battle for perimeter minutes next season between our four roughly 6'5" Juniors, and our two sub-6 footers. I'd like to get a look at Richard's high school statistics. Will be interesting to see what JJ does with our last ship. A high quality young guy who could sit out a year and grow with Holmen and Knox would be nice.
  15. So you're saying that I can never drink more than three beers? Now I'm really depressed. I've got to stay away from this board!
  16. Would somebody please post some good news? Other than the student athletic fee vote, it has now been years since I have seen any around here.
  17. Yes, it doesn't appear to make a whole lot of sense since he looks to be a similar player to Shorter and they're both Juniors. I guess JJ is really recruiting the defensive angle since perimeter defense was clearly a problem for us last year, but you guys are right in that there are only so many minutes to go around on the outside. I would have rather we signed a quality PG (frosh or JC) or a replacement more in the mold of McCoy, but we got what we got and let's hope that he proves to be better beyond the arc than he demonstrated last season. Welcome aboard Richard, and work on those 3's!
  18. Sick post which deserves no further elaboration.
  19. I've been out of town a lot lately, so did I miss the news that our law school is no longer likely? Either way, I have a hard time believing Russo's law school excuse unless there is a special situation like his father is an smu law graduate. Something like that might give him a better shot at admission. He probably just wanted to go play and hang with his high school budd's.
  20. I'm not so sure that he exactly put us on the basketball map (are we on it?), but he's a great coach and a good guy. I wasn't too happy when we let him go.
  21. Sorry to hear that you guys have gone tangerine. Btw, Austin is an "at" school just like you all are. They just happen to be the biggest "at" on the block.
  22. I'm going with the directional school out of loyalty to my alma mater. On the other hand, if we had taken the TX State name, our uniforms would probably look just like the team from East Lansing. Tough choice.
  23. Six three two hundred is certainly pretty slim for a D1 LB. On the other hand, speed/quickness and intangibles can make up for a lot of things. Hard to judge until you see him in action. Just wish he were shorter.
  24. Who knows? Anything is speculation until we get more facts. He could have been a major drug dealer, or he could have been a minor pot smoker who got a good deal on a small amount and was making his money back to get his smoke for free. Who knows? It's sad regardless.
