I'm not yet really a Dodge basher, but does he really even have a D1 system to have fully in place? His system was clearly high school when he got here, and he appears to be SLOWLY learning and making adaptations which will HOPEFULLY result in a high quality D1 system. I just wish he would speed his learning process up a bit. In all seriousness, I am pleased with the improvement of this year's team and with the quality of recruits that he is pulling in here. The staff, along with our QB, just need to learn how to turn this improvement into W's posthaste or the "Fire Dodge Talk" will soon get much louder.

We also beat Tampa in '66, and Pensacola Naval Air Station in '59. Hell, with the exception of Schnellenberger, we practically own Florida. Time for Howard to pay his Mean Green dues!

Forget about firing TD. He will be here through next year even if we go 1-11. On the other hand, I do think that his learning curve has about run out. Play calling and overall decision making is terrible for this level, and I think that it is time to finally purge the last vestiges of SLC from this program other than TD/RD and other SLC players. This thing started out as "SL College", and it's time for us to return to being the University of North Texas. I do still believe, mainly because I believe that TD can/will be a great recruiter, but he still needs to find a way to do things correctly on game day ASAP. We shall see.

Keep it up Gabe. We need ya! BOL to your Mom.

No comparison between the two whatsoever. Jerry always falls in love with quarterbacks who cannot do the job. Of course with the exception of that guy he ran into that he thought looked so hot in the shower.

What Video/song Best Represents Your Feelings
foutsrouts replied to NT03's topic in Mean Green Football
If we get blown out in the next one, I'll go for Petty's Free Falling. For now, I guess I'll go with Seger's Still the Same. -
I will say one thing. TD is MUCH more conservative than I thought he was when we hired him. I really expected him to be much more of an agressive attacking kind of coach, rather than a guy trying to avoid getting hurt too much. Seems that he has gotten less agressive over time, as we seemed to attack much more offensively during his first season. Again, we shall see.

I was there, and it was a really nice win for their program. An incredible atmosphere compared to what I have seen as a guy who has been going to UH games since their heyday playing in The Dome when I was a kid. Also a thoroughly great game. I just wish we could get something like that going in Denton. Don't recall that much activity going on in the tailgating scene EVER in Cougarland. Sounds like we didn't do too well in Denton, but I guess we have to be positive and remember that we weren't expected to do much this year anyway. Just looking at the stats and the game line, I still think we have a chance to be a pretty good team this year. We shall see.

It used to be on The Word out of Conroe, but I believe that has become a casuality courtesy of The Mattress Man. He was a heavy advertiser on our game days, and it would be nice if he got over the DD situation and reinstated his support for us in more ways than one. I spend a lot of time in that area and really enjoyed having the radio option. It wasn't bad for recruiting either.

Hurry up and get a damn train hooked up between Carrollton and The Pit. Hold the train back until after the game ends, and give a free hotdog to any student with a train stub. That would probably give us a few hundred cheapskate commuters.

Belt Passes The Mac, Not Behind Any Iaa's Either

Good to see. Surprised we're so close to USA. I know that Cal is pulling up their ranking, but I don't agree that the PAC 10 is numero uno. The Big 12 obviously has some high powered offenses, and the ACC ain't bad, but year after year I'll go with the SEC. They're always damn tough pretty much from top to bottom, which is why I wish we would avoid scheduling them like the plague. -
Were There Any Positives Against Bama?
foutsrouts replied to OldTimer's topic in Mean Green Football
11. Injury free as far as I know. 12. Pass protection could have been worse, but I didn't see as much of it as I would have liked. 13. Don't recall many dropped passes. 14. The first play from scrimmage in the game. 15. The rain stayed away (although it may have helped more than hurt). I don't want to imagine the score if we had turned it over and not matched them in time of possession. -
I agree. I don't think Tune looked too bad all things considered. Terrible play calling in my opionion. Looks like Dodge just wanted to get it over with and get out of there. I disagree with that attitude regardless. If we were going to call plays like that, we should of given Baine a little big game experience. If Riley turns out to be truly injury prone, we are going to regret not having a third option with some real game experience.

Didn't like the wimp out at the end. We should have been going down field on the last drive just like we should have been going down field many more times during the game. Why not? We're going to lose big regardless, and Tune does have a decent arm. Aren't we supposed to be a "high powered" spread team anyway?

Why can they not tackle? When I coached Pee Wees, we told them as a last resort to grab their foot and hold on. Maybe we need to start teaching that here. Geez!

Time To Consider Going Back To 1aa
foutsrouts replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
On top of that, we had around 10 thousand of them show up on a rainy night against Ohio. No, things are still SLOWLY moving forward. Nice to see we finally started taking it down field and used our speed to score! -
Time To Consider Going Back To 1aa
foutsrouts replied to meangreenbob's topic in Mean Green Football
Please don't go there. We look horrible, but somehow I think we're still going to get better. Just thought I would throw in a touch of optimism on a very dismal day. -
I'll go with 65-3 Bama. Come on Knott, you can do it!

Thought We Learned How To Tackle During Offseason
foutsrouts replied to kj86's topic in Mean Green Football
Yeah, a couple of the guys almost looked scared to lay a lick on somebody, and a lot of the guys just aren't wrapping up. We need a headhunter Nwigwe attitude from them all. -
Yeah, I do wish that for our money games we would play more of the Arizona State's, Colorado's, Iowa State's, Kansas State's, A&M's, Missouri's etc. of the world, but hopefully we will be able to pull off one of these "Top Tier" games in a couple of years. I don't mind playing UT/OU every once in awhile, but we really should steer clear of the SEC for now unless we want to go to Vanderbilt or maybe Arkansas again because of proximity. I was looking forward to this, so my Saturday is going to be pretty much a bummer. About the only bright spots I see so far today are Atterberry, Darius Carey, and Nwigwe. At least Tune isn't making too many mistakes. Most of the guys on this defense still cannot tackle the big boys.

Can't stand Motel 6, and have vowed to never stay there again. If they were actually still 6 bucks a night, I might consider it when I was asleep at the wheel in the middle of nowhere, but since they are basically an overpriced roach motel I think I would prefer to sleep in my car. In all seriousness, small town non-chain old motels usually work out much better than that place.

I can't believe that Bear Bryant's wife was anti-gay. I mean, Bear lived in College Station for several years before females were even allowed to attend A&M, and you can just imagine what kind of scenes that he must have stumbled into in those days.

Will We Have A Quarterback Controversy...
foutsrouts replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
I hear that we renamed our university "UNT" shortly after Tune's birth back in '88, in anticipation of the next renaming of our school to "The University of Nathan Tune." -
Will We Have A Quarterback Controversy...
foutsrouts replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
I'll take that. That would make us better than UT, TT, UH, TCU, BU, A&M.... Pretty good state this year! -
I've always like Tune and we are VERY lucky to have him on this team. Besides, NT has the best initials of any player that I can recall on this team in a very long time.
