Very true. How loose is he anyway?

I agree. Maybe we need to go back to last year's starting 5 and go from there. I had hoped we would have PT a little more settled by the time we got to the Aggie game.

You Decide: Is Rv Bold Or Stupid?
foutsrouts replied to MeanGreenHoops's topic in Mean Green Football
E. Took the easy way out. This hiring and firing stuff can be tough business. -
Yeah, I have to agree that it sounds pretty ridiculous. Why didn't we schedule Texas Wesleyan or someone that might provide a little local interest if we just HAD to schedule a NAIA team at this point? Hope JJ uses this as an opportunity to decide who will be getting the minutes on our big upcoming road trip. A lot of decisons to be made in that regard if we are going to have a more settled starting lineup. Now, watch us go out and lose. Naw!

That would surprise me in a big way. Unfortunately, he made many more big bad plays than he made big good plays. I really love the guy as an offensive athlete, but I just think he is out of position as an everyday "D1A" QB. That thought is not exactly groundshakingly new, but I just want to see TD give the other guys a chance to prove me wrong. Don't think it will happen. Barring health reasons, sad to say that I think we will have the same father and son duo running the team again next year. Hopefully RV or the new OC will speak up on the issue.

If any of them are from the high school ranks, I'm leaving and will never look back.

Nice analysis, but I'll believe that our DB's will be really strong when I see it. I thought this was going to be our weakest area before the season began, and we were flat out terrible this year in my opinion. I kind of thought we would be a little more consistent in the front seven, but unfortunately we never knew what we would get from week to week. Hopefully their will be more consistency in some area next year. After this season, I'll take it in any aspect of the game. Hopefully it begins with coaching.

I'd hate for us to get another "nepotismistic" situation started here at North Texas, but maybe that "Patterson" that he would leave behind would be named Brad Franchione? He coaches in the JC National Championship game again next weekend. Son could turn out to be more valuable than the father.

I'm tired of rebuilding, so I have to admit that I want to give him one more year. It's a crapshoot to think that he will suddenly become a decent coach at this level, but I guess I'm willing to take the gamble at this point. I know that RV is not our X's and O's football coach, but I hope that he very firmly questions some of TD's tactics and decision making at this level. As his boss, I guess he's about the only person in the position to do so.

Dear Mean Green Qb/wildcat Offense Debaters.....
foutsrouts replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
If he comes back next year, maybe we should follow the lead of Who Wants to be a Millionaire when he has to make crucial decisions? We can give him "lifelines" to famous head coaches and also let the audience make decisions for him. Interesting concept, that would keep him from taking all the heat for our losses. -

Gee, so sorry to get in the way of your mancrush, but your post makes no sense. I sad nothing about Nathan, and please explain the details to me in regard to "every recruiter in the nation" projecting and recruiting Riley as a QB. If you think Riley is 6' 195 pounds maybe you should take a video of him and examine it frame by frame and reach your own conclusions. In case you didn't notice, this board is for expressing one's opinions, and you are welcome to your's no matter how skewed it may be. -

I agree with the nepotism comment. I don't think he will give anyone a fighting chance at the job as long as a healthy Riley is around. Riley should be a slot receiver and backup QB in my opinion. Please don't anyone say he should be a DB. Could you imagine him routinely taking on TE's and OL's? I wish him the best and hope that he heals well, but how could TD claim that Riley weighs 195 pounds? I saw him close up in street clothes, and if he weighs 195 he sure does do a good job hiding it. -
Just curious, would this raging thread even exist if Thompson had come in and immediately thrown a pick six? Me thinks we have more important things to worry about than what some unproven quarterback will be doing four years from now. In the unlikely event that he becomes the next Colt McCoy we can always all look back and scream about what a bonehead decision this was. Hell, maybe we should have gone ahead and redshirted the handful of proven players we have on this team because their talents sure were wasted on this pitiful season.

Hope we get to see more of Mangrum and Spencer before we get to the Aggie/Owl games. I love Holmen's upside, but he is a just turned 18 year old Freshman and I would like to see what Spencer can do defensively with some of Holmen's minutes. I'm afraid that we may be missing Hogan's athleticism and experience a little more than anticipated this year. On the other hand, Jackson State may not be the game for testing Spencer if it's going to be a run and gun affair. It seems that JJ's substitution patterns are going to be especially crucial this year with the depth and variety on this team. When and how to rotate the 5'9"ish guards vs. when and how to rotate the 6'5"ish guards will probably be a big factor in our success this year. Probably going to take a little time to figure out.

I'd say 300 at the very least. The south 30-40% of the bleacher seats were green, and there was a pretty good scattering of less vocal Mean Greener's on the balcony side of the stage. Pretty nice turnout, which I hope will be indicative of some good crowds in Denton. We've got to beat Okie State!
-
Great game and rowdy crowd. Hard to believe that there were only 1400. Wouldn't want it as our venue, but I kind of enjoy the novelty of going to a "stage game" every once in awhile. Definitely a different experience. As far as the game was concerned, we've got to work on our interior defense. They were getting to the hole almost at will, and out hustling us on the defensive boards late in the game. If Haynes wouldn't have gone 10 for 27 we would have been in deep trouble.
-
It's obviously a tough loss for this year considering the experience level of our backup big men, but at least it gives us a little more balance on the roster since we'll have something like 37 Seniors on the team next year. Hope he's healing well.

If General Custer rises from the dead before Saturday, and is named head coach for the game, then I think that we will have a reasonable chance to pull it off if we indoctrinate the tomahawk chop into our repertoire. On a more serious note, I suspect that Army is going to be pretty fired up for this game in Texas.

Why Is Rv Immune From The Firing Line?
foutsrouts replied to SteaminWillieBeamin's topic in Mean Green Football
He HAS to be dumped if he doesn't produce a winning season by then. If he isn't, even the bands won't bother to show up for the games. With an empty stadium, at least we could fire the yellow shirts and save a few bucks for the next hire. OOps! I forgot that I banned myself from posting on the football board. -
Yes we suck. We suck so bad that I've decided to ban myself from the football board until we either win two in a row or officially begin the process of looking for a new coach. I guess that means goodbye for 13+ months. If I'm gone for 25+ months, we are REALLY in deep doo doo.
-
Nice article. I think we have a couple of special gems for the future (and present) in Lance and Riley. Now, where can we find those defensive gems to go along with them? I get a little more optimistic everytime I read an article like that. I just hope we again start to show something real on BOTH sides of the ball this Saturday. I've always had a thing against NE LA Monroe.
-
Yeah, it is kind of strange considering that we are supposed to be an "air it out" passing team. I feel for the guys who aren't getting the touches, but I guess we didn't know for sure what we had in Dunbar before the season started. If we did, it would have been nice if we had found out if Cam and Micah know how to tackle and given 'em a shot at outside LB. Hell, if we look as bad defensively this week as we have lately, give 'em a late season crash course and see what they can do. I know they're tough enough and I hate to see them on the pine.

Give the guy a workout. Up when we're on D, down when we're on O. That ought to attract a little attention. -
Green Gang: Dunbar The Next Jamario ?
foutsrouts replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I guess the one TD against WKY hurt LD in the scoring rankings category. ESPN has got him tied for second in total points scored and listed at 12.9 per game, but I now see that they aren't yet updated for last week's games. http://espn.go.com/college-football/statis...ort/totalPoints
