Or white CBs. Oh wait, Sehorn retired a few years ago didn't he?

Must be talking about the guy who runs the MMA League for Fido.

Last Scholarship Filled Monday Or This Week ?

Plus McGhee, and Mangrum (bye bye), and of course Hogans as the other guy said. We seem to generally be around half and half, with a few of the transfers being 3 year guys. -
Would The Sunbelt Ever Expand To 14 In Football?
foutsrouts replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
YES! Time for us to leave the entry level conference affiliation if at all possible. We've been around too long to settle for that at this point. Let all the ambitious Southland schools move into the Sunbelt AS WE LEAVE! Let them prove themselves like we must (and have in many ways) in order to move away from the SBC. Let's face it, most of the potential entry level teams are in the South, and the SBC is in the South. If most of the entry level schools were up in the Midwest, then some kind of a MAC situation would be more in order for the newbies. We've got to step up, and our new stadium should be the catalyst for that. Not really trying to bash the SBC because it is much improved and has been good to us in many ways, but it is destined to be the entry level football conference for the foreseeable future. We cannot miss the opportunity to hit the road if that opportunity presents itself. Forget hooking up with San Antonio, San Marcos, Lamar, and whoever else from the Southland decides to make the jump. At least in the short-term. -
I don't think it is a primary factor, but I still hear the name issue brought up by more than a few non-NT people. Especially among old SWC types from Texas who ignorantly still connect the name to the old West Texas/East Texas/North Texas Teacher's College thing. It's really a moot issue at this point, but I can imagine that the name "Texas State" would create a whole different image in people's minds over time. Hope the stigma is going away with the younger generation, because I suspect our name is here to stay.

A MWC membership sure would be a nice stepping stone for us to get to the Big 12 someday, but I'm afraid there are too many people in line ahead of us at this point. I also don't see a snowball's chance of Colorado turning down the PAC 10 (or Big 12) for the MWC. UTEP's main attraction is location and a very large fanbase, and I can see them in the MWC. If Dodgeball had been a roaring success right off the bat, and we had pulled off an NCAA upset or two along with a new baseball stadium, we would be in a much more marketable position. Because of the fact that we have never been in a quality football conference and that some people don't respect our regional name (as crazy as that is), I'm afraid that we are pretty much going to be relegated to the SBC, USA, or a new regional SWC version for the foreseeable future. Hope people wake up and go with the SWC option.

Oh, and I left out S. Miss. as another good prospect to be in the mix. You could have an eastern division that stretches from Tulsa to Jonesboro down to Hattiesburg, and a western division that is basically the DFW area, Houston, and the El Paso area. Other than Memphis in basketball, USA just doesn't impress me that much anymore.

I wish we could just revive the old SWC and be done with it. NT, smu, Houston, Rice, Tulsa, LA Tech, LaLa, El Paso, NMSU, Tulane, Arky State, and on a long shot, TCU. If no TCU, we could eliminate two of the remaining eleven and just go with nine for now. It would be advantageous to every one of those schools with increased revenues, reduced expenses, improved rivalries, and very possibly a much better conference down the road than they now have in USA. Sure smu wants to avoid elevating us, but I think it would end up paying off for them down the road.

New Possibilty For The Last Scholarship?
foutsrouts replied to Army of Dad's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Log in problems here as well. -
I believe that UTEP came from the WAC, not the MWC. I'm also not too sure that the BIG 12 would even consider CSU. Sure Ft. Collins is close to the Denver media market, but I suspect most in the Big 12 think of CSU as being "beneath" them. On the other hand, I guess there aren't a whole lot of other options if they go for a school in the northern region. Kind of depends on how things shake out.

Arkansas to Big 12 Florida State to the SEC. Arkansas is tired of getting their butts kicked, and they want to get back to having a presence in Texas. The two Floridas are ready to be in the same conference. And the dominoes begin...

Yeah, I run around with quite a few attorneys and agree that smu's law school should only be considered "pretty good." A few years ago I think I would have considered it to be "not so good." Texas followed by Baylor have the best in the state IMO. Houston and TT certainly aren't bad, and some of the smaller TX law schools aren't too bad either. Hope he finds the right fit.
-
And NT games! A&M, TT, Army, smu, and UTA as far as ones I recall attending. A lot of big concerts as well. Too many to name.

The Cotton Bowl holds some nice memories for me as well, but no telling how much longer Jerry's palace will allow that one to hang around.
-
Yeah, I remembered Dez's direct transfer, but wasn't sure exactly what the stipulations were. Would be kind of strange if he did a reverse Dez and ended up at smu. Certainly don't want to encourage him to go there, but it's close to home, and probably the place where he would be most likely to get extended PT next year. Especially in comparison to Texas or Baylor. Depending on the quality of law school that he is looking at, I guess TT would would be an option with some PT potential as well.
-
A lot of memories and I live in Irving. Have mixed feelings about going over and watching the sacrilege, but I'll probably at least climb a big hill and watch it go down from long distance.
-
If he plans on playing, wouldn't he likely have to go the D2 route?

I don't think 5'11" Drew Brees had any trouble seeing over the line. Oh well, old passe subject. Instead of talking about shortness, I guess we can start bitching and screaming about lack of mobility now. There will always be something for us to cry about unless we go 13-0. Even then we will find something. Like BCS bitching.

Revised Starters And Minutes Distribution Guesses
foutsrouts replied to BleedGreen's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I tend to go with your scenario a bit more. Unless Edwards turns out to show a WHOLE LOT more in practice than he showed at JC, he is probably going to have to earn his minutes. Similar situation probably will apply to Spencer as well. I think Holmen and Hogans are definitely going to be competing head to head for minutes, and it just kind of depends on how Hogans comes back from his injury break, and how much Holmen has learned from his first year's experience. Definitely want to see Josh and Dom find a way to get somewhere between 20-30 minutes a piece. No telling about our hopeful freshman sensation. Guess we will just have to wait and see on that. -
Hard to believe that some still have anti-Euro-American (does that work?) basketball prejudices after watching that game on Monday night. Oh well, since the subject matter is getting a little heavy, hopefully Big Ben reads this board regularly and works his butt off to prove his detractors wrong. Personally, I think he has a reasonably good chance to be a contributor.
-
Big day for breaking news around here. Sad to see him go. Great contributor this year, and too bad he's going to miss out on the chance to go to the NCAA's three times in his career. I always had hope that he would regain the touch from long range that he showed against Middle two seasons ago. He will be missed.
-
Wow, guess I've been so wrapped up in work and basketball lately that I didn't catch this 'til now. Sad in a way, but I kind of suspected it was going to happen one way or another. Glad it didn't have to happen through another injury, because I was genuinely concerned about his safety back there. We really need someone at QB who can get the ball downfield and keep the LB's honest. I think Riley will make a great receiver, but for health reasons I'm not so sure I want to see him as a return man.

Keep the family tradition going. Oh, and Babb too!

So sorry. I lost a close friend recently and know how tough it can be. God Bless.
