I took notice when he said "maybe someone out of football a year" and quickly added "or two years." Think I know who was on his mind there.

As far as I know Leach is not a serial killer, so I wouldn't exactly say that hiring him would be trying to win at "all costs." What makes us so ethically superior to the bigger programs that are likely to soon be courting him anyway? Besides, I think Leach has probably learned his lesson in regard to electrical closets, and I really don't care if he's not much of an ambassador or even maybe a bit of a fruitcake, as long as he stays out of serious trouble and wins football games. Wins could take care of a lot of his "ambassadorship duties" all by themselves. It's not like he needs to be our Joe Paterno and coach here until he's a hundred. Obviously , the odds of his coming to Denton are extremely remote, but I just want someone who can turn this thing around ASAP, and he is not someone that I would automatically rule out if he showed interest.
-
I guess he could explain it by saying that he's tired of losing football games, and that the litigation was initiated by Leach in denial of the accusation that he mistreated a player.

Uh, that would be 5 conference championships in the past 16 years, and our recent performance could have something to do with today's termination. Ya think?
-
Agreed. We have also won 24 conference championships in our history which is pretty impressive when you think about it. Hate it when people make our history out to be lower than it is.

Didn't I read that same post somewhere 4 years ago?

Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures. As long as he wins, and as long as he and his players stay out of trouble and eligible, I really don't care much about his image or social skills at this point. It's a serious longshot anyway but you never know.
-
Uh, he has done a great job pulling PV up from perennial SWAC doormat status, but please tell me this is untrue. His hiring sounds like it would be another RV experimental hire.
-
Wouldn't hurt to ask. Who knows, maybe he's in a slummin mood right now, and would like to show the world that he's capable of pulling off one of the biggest turnarounds in coaching history. Hell, if he will sign on, I'll even let him put me in an airconditioned trailer for an hour or two if that's what turns him on, and I promise not to cry or even tell my daddy. He had a Crabtree, a Welker, and some pretty decent QBs, but he sure did a lot with a bunch of recruiting classes that weren't exactly spectacular by Big 12 standards. I'd take him in a heartbeat.
-
No. He would still have plenty of time to have those new seats painted orange.
-
Yes, 40k would have been a nice size, but I guess we'll just have to live with it until we start winning and averaging 30k. The smaller stadium won't help so much with home and home against some of the big boys, and it won't help so much with our future dream conference affiliations, but I guess I'm just happy that we finally went out and built one. Hard to bitch too much about it.

Did U See Rice Beat Uh? Prediction: We'll See A New Hfc

If Casey Kasem changes his mind and goes NFLing I'll be a bit more optimistic about our chances. -
Would A New Coach Right Now Make Sense?
foutsrouts replied to Travis Scott's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm more than a little sorry about the injuries, and that we were not able to see what this team could do without them, but I never really thought of suicide as being classy. -
Maybe we should beg U of H to go elsewhere next September so we can setup a big opening day showdown with the Austin College Kangaroos? If they're too tough for us, maybe Sul Ross is available? They had something like a 59 year old LB there a couple of years ago, and maybe we can beat them with our youth.
-
and good conditioning can help give you that last reflex movement to avoid nasty collisions and pull your leg out of the pile and such.
-
We've also been playing football for close to a hundred years, and most of our conference mates are just getting started. Sad.
-
The most pathetic looking stands that I have seen here since the Abilene Christian game many years ago and we actually won that game in overwhelming fashion. Time for a change. I wish he would just quit, but we all know that money is top priority in this day and age, Really a sad and depressing situation that we have gotten ourselves into with this failed experiment.
-
I'll answer that one. WKU. Sorry for butting in.
-
I would bet that TD could lose two more games and still come back next year. That is expecially true if K-State is not one of those losses. Unfortunately, K-State is looking like a top 4 Big 12 team this year.
-
If we were 6-36 (wins inflated with WKU) in the Big Twelve I would grin and bear it, but I would not exactly be a happy camper. We are in the SBC.
-
Most of them were sent packing never to be heard from again.
-
If he does great things somewhere else, I suspect that it will have to be on the high school level for the near future at least. I think that his coaching reputation at this level has probably been tarnished enough to preclude his even getting a lower level FBS OC position anytime soon. I wish him the best, but regardless of what anyone thinks of him, it's rabbit pulling out of the hat time, and that rabbit pulling better begin tonight.

Based on this season's performance, I hope you didn't just doom your son to 3rd grade failure.
-
For the sake of continuity moving into the new stadium, I wouldn't be totally against that idea for ONE season IF we are able to pull off 5+ wins this year (or 4 including K-State) . I don't think that Canales has proven enough yet to warrant handing him the head coaching reins for more than a short trial period.
