  1. Yeah, so much for the BS belittling term known as "Mid-Major." Butler and VCU are more like "Major-Majors." Too bad they aren't setup for a final matchup against each other, but at least we're guaranteed to have one of them in the final. Hope it's VCU, because I actually took a Summer school class there when I spent a Summer working construction with a buddy in Richmond. Guess that means I "kinda" have a team in the Final Four for the first time, but let's hope that the next Cinderella will be from Denton.
  2. What stands out to me on that list, is that I hadn't remembered that Calvin Natt went to school in Monroe, and I can't believe it has been 26 years since Keith Lee was at Memphis, and Wayman Tisdale was at Oklahoma. Damn time flies. Hell of a career Kenneth!
  3. We've got to have some serious muscle down low to compete in The Dance. Sure, some teams can get by without a monster in the middle, but all you have to do is look at Geo Mason vs. OH State to see how much of a difference that powerful offensive rebounding and defense in the paint can make in a "playoff" situation. If we can't come up with a big transfer, then I sure hope that Spencer's appeal comes through. The dominant big man has been down a bit until recently on both the NBA and big-time NCAA stage, but I suspect that he is beginning to make a comeback.
  4. Blame it on the freaking peach farmers.
  5. Yeah, IMO the shame is that our team (at least in the month of March) was the only good team in the SBC when reasonably healthy . That's why it's so sad that we didn't continue the season in one venue or another.
  6. It can be major if you're good. The big programs pack 'em in. Guess it was time for a change to see if we can finally get that program up and running.. Angry RV strikes again.
  7. smu managed to pull off a CIT win in OT tonight against Oral Roberts, despite the fact that 2-3 of their Seniors (including their star Dia) played injured. They next host Jacksonville who beat East Carolina. Would have been nice for us to have been there. Sorry to post it here, but I didn't think an smu victory was worthy of starting a new thread.
  8. Thomas Magnum?
  9. Maybe he was mad at himself for missing the opportunity to play smu down at Moody tonight? Then again maybe not. Either way, it's nice to see that "management" monitors this board on occasion. Almost makes you feel like your posts mean something whether they like them or not.
  10. I don't mind getting our feet wet with a Henderson State, but the schedule has got to improve drastically from there if we want a chance at anything other than automatic bids or CBI/CIT. Unless of course our conference mates show some major improvement. Yes, too much SWAC/Southland and too little USA/MWC and such. Normally LSU and TT wins would have helped that RPI a lot, but unfortunately not this year. I suspect another 4-5 wins would have gotten us close to the NIT, but a pretty good (but erratic) Baylor team didn't even make the cut. Oh well, I'm already looking forward to next season.
  11. Nice post. I'm sure that very few here are actually criticizing the players directly, but most (including myself) are probably just experiencing a letdown from a very tough loss which undoubtedly was devastating to the players. As far as post-season play is concerned, I don't think that anyone would want them to go out and play crippled whether it be the NCAA/NIT or the CIT/CBI, but I guess you would have to be privy to the player's current physical and mental condition to really assess that situation. I guess the lack of post-SBC Tourney information from the team, other than that we were waiting for that very unlikely NIT berth, probably added to many fan's frustration level in a big way. On a positive note, it's nice that we have fans who are actually interested enough to bitch and complain, because a few years ago even those fans were nearly non-existent. Oh well, on to a very promising 2011-2012 !
  12. Beat me to it. Last I heard, Coach McCarney is making around half a million, and Coach Jones is pulling in a good chunk over 300K. Based on tenure and past performance, especially in the recruiting area, I would hope that JJ could get his salary up closer to $400,000 with incentive bonuses. I've got no problem at all with retaining Coach Canales and paying him a nice salary. He showed us a lot last year, and I really think it was a great move to keep him on staff. We're lucky he decided to stay.
  13. Hmmm...maybe my memory is off, but I seem to remember Simon being very pissed that he was fired and replaced by a Buick as we were returning to 1A, and I also thought that Coach Jankovich was pushed out in favor of Trilli. Last "quitter" I recall in the two major men's sports was Moore to Tech, but again I could be wrong.
  14. Yeah, we would have likely gotten smu due to location, and I suspect that the pub would have been nice. You are right though. This is silly, because it is now all over and done with. Don't get it why they even bothered to put out the "NIT only" PR since everyone on the planet knew that was impossible. See ya next year.
  15. Could be, but I think Abraham Lincoln was President the last time we had a coach quit, so I forget.
  16. The punies got a nice top of the page article this morning in the DMN about their hosting of Oral Roberts on Wednesday. Not bad pub if you ask me. Could of been us, and we could have finally gotten our chance to kick some puny butt and officially claim the title of Metroplex BB champs in front of a predominantly MeanGreen crowd down at Moody. Too bad we're either too good, too poor, too disinterested, or too whatever to play in the CIT. Too bad.
  17. I guess I'm just being like most human beings and going with the evidence at hand since they chose to provide very little. What is your reasoning? Obviously, it allows fans to participate in the experience of a national post-season tourney, and to continue to gauge what kind of a team we have/had this year. Personally, the year this team had feels kind of incomplete to me. We won a lot of close games against questionable competition until we had the drop off, and then we began to show what we were made of in the 5 games leading up to the heartbreaker against UALR. I know that injuries and such were a factor in the ups and downs, but I'd like to see a little more of this team before it basically goes away. Doesn't look like I'm gonna get my wish.
  18. The fact that the best team we beat this year was Florida Atlantic kind of makes me think that we don't have a snowball's chance of going NIT. If the NIT had 64 teams we would have a chance, but I just don't see how the math could possibly work even if the top seed in every conference won their conference and conference tournament and went to the NCAA's. Glad to hear that we think we are so superior to these other teams who are going CIT and such, because I really wasn't aware of it. I know it may be a small factor in the decision making process, but the players and staff do have a small obligation to the fans who have sacrificed a lot of time, energy, and money supporting the team over the past 4 months. Too bad.
  19. Until the final, the national buzz likely wouldn't consist of much more than our name on a scoreboard, but if we do well the local buzz could be significant. Especially if we get matched up with the punies to the south. The banner raising next Fall would also be nice for recruiting and such since we just missed out on a couple of banners this year. We really ought to give it try, unless as CMJ mentioned the players aren't into the idea.
  20. If we're still too cheap to host, and the guys want to play, it would sure make me happy if we played at Air Force next week since I'm going to be in Colorado. If Quinnipacpac can afford to host, I just don't see why The University of North Texas cannot even afford to play.
  21. Always wondered why the Mangrum family spent so much time texting during games.
  22. He blows him away in FG% as well. I saw him play this year and I think he is going to be really special. Might just well be ready for primetime right off the bat.
  23. I think the Seniors deserve it, and the funding would be worth the publicity if we did well. I know I personally would enjoy a continuation of this team. Hard to believe all those guys are going away after all these years. I say open up the wallet!
  24. He clearly has a need for punishment.
  25. Yeah, no telling whether Bozeman would have even shot that 3 or not because we probably would have been defending differently, but TT's missed FT may have cost him more than just one trophy for his trophy case. Tough way to go out.
