Breaking news -- Chris Jones, Jordan Williams ineligible
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
Mother of bear What a shame, and as much as it hurts them and this team, atleast this is happening their freshman year, and not later on down the line. Now they'll know what will happen if they don't make the grades. I just hope they can correct the problem and come back next season. It would be devistating to lose them permanently. -
Mixed drink of choice

1. Change how extra points are done at Apogee. If the kicker can shoot a tin can off the field goal post from 30 yards out, plus 60 points, if not, negative 20 points. 2. Have the Rock come in and be "all time" for both sides, so it will be 12 on 11 and the people will get to see the Rock give Blaine Gauteir the Peoples Elbow. 3. Scrap the cheerleaders, and bring in 36 cardboard Bud light girls to take their place. No one will notice. Saves money, and the ecosystem. Win-win. 4. We need to tap in the Necessary Roughness goldmine, I think if we changed our names to the Armadillos the students would show up. Hiring Sinbad as defensive coordinator wouldn't be a bad move either to entice excitement. 5. Apogee Stadium should be domed over and have a permanent snow maker machine next to the scoreboard so we can play indoor snow games every game and get the best of both worlds. I'm just brainstorming, probably only 1 through 3 of these are possible.

Dude, you have got to stop believing everything you read. The "reported numbers" are always going to be different than the actual attendance. Chuck Neinas made sure we counted our attendance correctly this season, barring the last game. Here is another problem with SMU people, when they're flat wrong, they just deny it, same with the cheating. Where are the photos of these crowds? Or is your athletic department is constant damage control to make sure they don't get out?
-
You're wrong. I'm not trying to be a jerk, but you are flat wrong there. I'm not saying ya'll don't have x amount of fans, but seriously, there's no way 21k were at every game. That means the stadium is 2/3 full. Care to show us some crowd shots of these games in question? Again, you're wrong. The same way UNT was wrong in its last game counting the attendance. The difference between us though, we did it for one game to ensure getting an attendance record, you guys do it every game and then act like it never happened, trying not to put out too many crowd pics, same with the cheating scandal. No one will forget that SMU is a bunch of money grubbing cheaters Funny when a sun belt team who hasn't had a winning season in 7 years outdraws a big east team who just went to a bowl game, isn't it?
-
We will take them down, but I think it will be pretty close, I'm excited to see how the team plays in its first conference game. UNT 73 UALR 70

Man, this stinks. But, that's the way it goes in recruiting, players get stolen all the time once a couple players fall through for schools who seem to be higher on the totem pole than us. I just hope with another scholarship free we sign another DB or DT, O Line is already starting to look stacked for the future.

A Look Back @ the 2011 North Texas Signing Class
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Again, I'm not trying to bring down the player, I watched him and Boone play in high school and I never saw anything that impressed me that much. I also know some people who played with him and Boone and I just don't see him as an impact lineman at the FBS level. That highlight tape is good and all, but if you'll notice he's blocking 150-190 pound DE's in the clips. Boone will have a bigger impact here than Cam will. I'd love for Cam to prove me wrong of course, he has the size to do it but size alone won't cut it at this level. I just wouldn't want people to get their hopes up too much that he'll be an All SBC type player next season, because that's not the case. He might play somewhere down the line, but I don't expect it to be next year. -
A Look Back @ the 2011 North Texas Signing Class
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I'm not trying to "bring down" a player, but I'm telling you folks, I would be highly surprised if Cam ever starts a game here. Cam only had one offer, and that was from Arkansas who's recruiting coordinater at the time was his dad's best friend. I think people are expecting a dominant player since he came from an SEC program, but that was in fact his only FBS offer due to the relationship his dad had at the time. Cam doesn't have the footwork or motor Boone has. Again, I would love to see the kid succeed, but I expect Boone to be a lot better before all is said and done. And I think it would be wise to let the mean green faithful know now, instead of everyone expecting him to be an immediate improvement over Matt Tomlinson at RT next season. It wouldn't surprise me to see a FR come in and take the RT spot. Who knows who will be starting their next season, it could be Micah Thompson, LaChris Anyiam, Grant Shaw, Chase Walling, or Sam Rice. The good thing about all these players is they have legit FBS size and then some. OL should be a bright spot for the next 3 or 4 years with Johnson, Y'Barbo and Lemon here for 3 more years plus the incoming recruits. -
CB Dequarius Johnson to North Texas
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I think the signing will add depth, and give us another look at corner, but from what I saw on the tape it looks like he tackles too high at the point of attack and doesn't have high end speed, and I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but when you get a player who was committed at Akron, it doesn't impress me much since that it the bottom of FBS football. Maybe he'll end up being a player, and I don't doubt our coaches eye for talent. I just really hope we didn't sign the guy because we saw the writing on the wall when it came to Leo Thomas and went ahead and made the sure signing as opposed to waiting for Thomas to commit. I can't say where the DB's will be playing next year since I'm not Coach Mac, but we do have Freddie Warner coming back at CB, Laramie Lee will prob get the other corner spot with Trice and Johnson as the safeties. The back up corners should be Hilbert Jackson and Xavier Kelly and the back up safeties will be Davis/ who knows. One thing's for sure, I don't feel confident about the DB's next year, we'll be very, very young at CB and be breaking in two new starters at safety, Trice will be a ALL SBC player regardless, but one or two injuries, and we'll be giving up 350+ through the air every game again. Maybe move Will Wright back to SS and have a legit hard hitting safety out there while Trice plays free and makes sure plays don't get busted for 30+ yards? -
A few things I noticed @ the Jackson St. game, first off, the seats are too small. I am 200 pounds and it was difficult to get comfortable in those seats, can't even imagine what it would be like for someone bigger. The stadiums needs a drastic renovation. They need to gut the press seats, eliminate the bar around the court, put in seats closer to the action, there is absolutely nothing along the east/west walls at the top, why not put in a couple suites? Obviously, sound is terrible, and there's two video boards the size of my HDTV on each side. These things need to be improved because it just looks bad, it's funny how I didn't notice all these things until we had Apogee. If baseball is number one, then basketball stadium renovation needs to be number two. And we need to get these things done ASAP.

The main thing in life I have always hated, even though I was taught never to hate, was the kids who were given everything and didn't have to work for it. My sister and I weren't raised in the best circumstances, but we both are paying our own way through school(She graduated @ TCU, now doing grad school @ UNC, I've paid for everything myself in three years of school @ NCTC/UNT) We'll see in ten years who has more money they made themselves, the SMU grad driving the Benz daddy bought him or the kid from a trailerpark who paid his own way. I don't care if you're fortunate enough to have rich parents, that doesn't make you any better than the next person. The arrogance and superiority complex of many SMU folks makes me dislike their school and alums. And to be honest, it's not a jealous type of dislike, it's the kind where I just don't want anything to do with the school. Will the games played starting in 2014 be great for both schools? No doubt, but would I care if they were taken off the schedule? Not really... *I'm not trying to compare SMU/UNT to my life, I don't want it to seem like I'm saying SMU students are rich and our students are from trailerparks, just saying the high number of students there living off daddy and their sense of entitlement is what creates my disdain for their university.
-
WOW. For those thinking this was an undersized under recruited commit, you're wrong, plain and simple, I'm glad we got him over the rest of those schools. Kid should be a nice compliment as a junior to Stok on the outside when he is a senior.

With 4 Scholarships Left To Give
ntmeangreen11 replied to UNTLifer's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Leo Thomas(S 3*), Je'Rod Evans(QB), David Busby(CB 3*), Jeff Hall(ATH 3*) Of course I would love to go 3 DT and 1 DE, but I don't think there's really that many out D1 players out there at that position that we're after right now. -
Is he talking about MWC schools here, or other schools?
-
Here's his highlights from the 2011 season. I think he has a decent chance of being the #4 WR and I think he'll do pretty good there, he has great hands and concentration and can make the catch in traffic with ease. Looking forward to seeing him in green. Man, 9 more months...here comes the wait again. Those 5 months after basketball is over is brutal.

North Texas attracts a lot of, how should I say this, "interesting" students. I would guess 40% of the student body doesn't give a damn about football in general, not just ours. I hear quite a few of these conversations too, but today I overheard some guys talking about the future of the team and how they planned on making every game next year as opposed to just the Houston game this season, and probably 3-4 groups talking about Tony Mitchell. We have more apathetic non athletic friendly people on campus than at most schools, but there's still a lot of dudes 18-21 that love football, they just don't love a losing team. We're all upset with attendance Saturday, but I know for a fact, if we start winning, 25k is not out of the question, and it will only grow from there in terms of students. We just have to WIN.
-
Correct, South Alabama counts as a DIV1 win, they will be in the sun belt standings, just not eligible for the post season since they're a "Transitional" DIV1 team next year. The interesting part of it all is all sun belt schools will play 8 conference games and skip one select team to be replaced with South Alabama. Seeing as how USA will be home, that means they will replace one of FIU, UL, Troy or ASU. I am in favor of dropping LSU and getting whoever we can get at home. We need six home games, and I know some people don't like it, but Texas Southern and USA at home will be good for us next year, that's two guaranteed wins. And one of them will count as a conference win while we also get to skip one of FIU,UL,Troy or ASU. That all works out in our favor, if somehow we can get out of the LSU game, and get another winnable OOC game, we can go 2-2 in OOC, beat USA, and go a minimum of 3-4 in conference play and still be bowl eligible.

Why does B. Walton get so much playing time?

So, this game started 35 mins ago, and I can't get the link to work for free video. Has the game started or am I missing something?
-
Just throwing this out there, we'll get to play South Alabama at home next season, and by no means will that be an easy game, but what that means is since they're transitional FBS they can't make the postseason but are technically SBC members. That means that we'll get to skip one sun belt opponent next season. Maybe that opponent is ASU or ULL, and if Houston is off the schedule, we pick up another home game we can win, and this team goes from 5 or 6 wins expected next season to 7 or 8. I am excited for next season, it will be the first time in a long time we can all make our bowl predictions and not be making them after drinking kool aid, there is some legitimate young FBS talent here, can't wait to see what Mac will be able to do with the kids he signs this year.
-
Wow, that's a brilliant idea. I highly doubt he'd be willing to be a part of the staff and I'm pretty sure he's lived 4 hours away or so for a long long time. Having the Mean Joe Gr7eene come to recruit you would give us an advantage over all the Texas schools except Texas/A&M/Tech. That would be awesome, probably won't ever happen though.
-
I don't want to bring anyone down more than they already are, but after talking with a few folks, I'm not sure any of us should expect Cam Feldt to be anything close to a dominate player. He might play from lack of depth, but I'm just warning everyone now, this kid probably won't be the dominant o linemen you would expect him to be Boone, on the other hand, was a great grab and is much more athletic, better motor, better feet, he should be an all conference caliber player in time. Still excited to see what the offense can do with 9 starters back next season.

UNT BB Top 30 Recruiting Class?
ntmeangreen11 replied to bleedgreen4ever's topic in Mean Green Basketball
I'm pretty sure there was only one service that ranked us in the top 30, and it wasn't Rivals. This was a great class, no doubt. Definitely something to be excited about, but they haven't played but 4 games in DIV1 basketball. They have the talent, what they don't (yet) have is chemistry. Just give it time folks. Good lord, I think what's happening is people are taking their expectations of the team plus Tony Mitchell and applying it to the current team. You basically have 3 players coming back and then there's 6 in the rotation that have never played D1 ball. They need time to gel and figure out each others tendencies, it's really early in the season, the good news is SBC play does nto start for a while, and we have time to get ready for it. Everyone please tap the brakes, when T Mitch comes in the team will have some experience and his play will only boost the team. The west looks like it is weaker and weaker everyday so far this season with ASU basically falling off the map. We have a good shot to get a high seed in the conference tourney. I could care less what seed we would potentially get, because I think by that time the players will progress and know each other tendencies and our talent alone will give us a decent shot come March.
