What a huge pickup! GMG
-
How was I negative? Bogenschutz has played one game and got hurt so far for UTSA, I personally think we got the better east Texas QB. I'm excited for the offense in the future, Tee is probably one of the youngest guys on the team and has a lot of room to grow. Rutherford will be a redzone threat but both of these guys need time to develop I'm glad they're being redshirted. I know the odds are slim given our luck at UNT but I'm hoping one of Means, DW or Chumley will take hold of the QB position in the spring and we'll see a different offense in 2015.

MGB: Rickey Brice talks about visit to UNT
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
"Brice said he has also received offers from USC, UCLA, Texas, Oklahoma State, Temple, St. Louis and Texas Tech." “I am leaning toward signing with North Texas,” Brice said Wow, landing a player of his caliber and height would be incredible for UNT, I wonder why TCU & SMU haven't jumped in to the race. I could be the only one but even before reading this story I have been feeling a strange amount of optimism for the basketball team. I think the natural law of UNT sports will continue and since we're pretty bad at football this year, basketball will bounce back. -
A year after bowl appearance , Buffalo U fires HC

Wow, the guy had Khalil Mack for four years and mustered one winning season. Sounds about right. -
There is no accountability, from the coaching hires to the AD to the school board to the president. They are all doing the bare minimum and expecting to be commended for it the same way they have for as long as UNT has been a school. I'm not ready to turn on Mac, I think we're struggling because there are so many young guys out there and the class of 2011 had a lot of attrition (the class he had two months to sign after being hired) . I know everything falls on him but at the same time Canales is responsible for the quarterbacks specifically and he simply has not been able to get a decent player on campus in 5 years now. I think Canales will be sent packing after this year and I don't have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with is what Billysee mentioned above, those records are awful for an AD. At this point the only thing you can point to in RV's tenure as a great success is getting the AC & stadium built, and the latter only broke ground thanks to the student fee.

We have been outscored in 5 1/2 quarters of conference games 70-7. Two conference games against teams who did not make bowls last season.

McCarney: Mean Green ‘not as talented’
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The 2011/2012 recruiting classes have not given us the needed production. A lot of the guys we signed out of high school in those years have flamed out and the only JUCO player who contributed was TE Andrew Power (JUCO recruiting has been way more miss than hit) 2011 OL Grant Shaw WR Chaz Simpson LB Michael Stok CB Jamone Greer DT Terrell Brooks JUCO QB Brent Osborn S Kerry Swarn JUCO CB Deleon McCord 2012 OL Boone Feldt S David Busby JUCO CB DQ Johnson WR Nick Schrapps DE Brad Horton CB Xavier Kelly S Devante Davis LB Dustin Clark -
If we lose today it will take winning 5 of our remaining 7 conference games to make a bowl game. At this point I'm not sure we're capable of that.

Lance was supposed to get some of those carries. There was article after article this summer about how Linehan was planning to use Lance similarly to how he used Reggie Bush in Detroit. The big difference here is that Detroit had Joquie Bell (an average to above average player) as the other RB and we have a pro bowler who needs 20 carries a game as the key cog. I like that their using Lance in the passing game he is winning those matchups against linebackers on 3rd downs every time (if only Tony wouldn't throw the ball at his feet) . My guess is he will get some carries when Demarco starts showing some wear and tear as the season progresses.

Game over. We will be facing a tough opponent with a lively fanbase coming off an upset victory on the road over a top 25 SEC team. They have a pretty good QB who is 6'5 230 and a solid running game we will have our hands full.

I could be wrong but wasn't Conroy Hines calling plays when Canales was interm HC?

Mack Brown could be SMU's Larry Brown for football
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I understand what he did to turn the program around and the fact that by traditional standards was a very successful coach. At the same time when you take in to account the resources he had available he should have been able to win more. He was a pretty good coach I just don't hold the fake Mac in very high regard after reading him admit to stargazing and talking about how much control his wife had over the football program. I think they fired him a year too late out of loyalty for turning the program around and winning a national title, just my opinion though.- 36 replies

ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not sure Coker wants to leave UTSA especially for a job like SMU that would be another rebuild. If Coker was really lowballed he would have refused to sign the extension. As for Mack Brown, I don't think he is the right choice for them by any means. You want to hire the guy who had all the advantages in the world but couldn't get the job done and at one time admitted to "star gazing" in recruiting rather than making evaluations? They have plenty of money to throw around, they will get a big time name, we just have to hope it's not a name as big as Larry Brown because the new coach will undoubtedly try to flip a few of our commits when he is hired.- 36 replies

Plus you have to wonder how dedicated June Jones really is. I don't know how anyone could be an FBS coach AND devote as much time as he does to his inner city ministry.
