'15 DL LB TE Josiah Tauaefa
ntmeangreen11 replied to MEANGREENCOACH2's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Even if we get a commit from Combs, that will give us two defensive lineman commits for 2015. I'm not sold that we should offer a kid just because he is local and has a few FBS offers, if the coaching staff doesn't see him as a fit then so be it. I just don't understand why we're not casting a wider net with DL players and signing more of them? It's off topic but I keep circling back to the class of 2012 and how bad it hurt us last year and will continue to hurt us this year. Some P5 schools can have a class end up being a wash and more or less not skip a beat. At a school like UNT you simply can not have a class filled with misses and expect to be a bowl team. What should be the strength of our team in 2015 (seniors & redshirt juniors) is a weakness and because of that you see a spike in JUCO signings. I hope 2015 turns out to be like 2013 and our worries are put to rest by our current players making a huge jump but I am skeptical to say the least. -
MGB breaking news -- Harris suspended indefinately
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
We are not competitive at the CUSA level in football or basketball. It is time for a change. -
The Cowboys went 12-4, 8-0 on the road including at Seattle, won a playoff game and could have beat GB to be in the NFC championship and we want Garrett gone why? The Cowboys have done a much better job drafting in recent years minus the Claiborne trade and Escobar pick. I hope we can keep most of the players, coaching staff and personnel together because this team can be a title contender in 2015.

Should Lance find another team that will give him PT?
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's doubtful that another team will offer him a contract without him ever even scoring in three years, but if they do the Cowboys won't match. He would absolutely be getting more playing time elsewhere. Hopefully he will have a bigger role in 2015 with the cowboys in a contract year. -
'15 ATH Kevin Dillman (Denton Guyer)

FWIW he was rated 98 (5*) after his sophomore season and then downgraded as time went on. I really hope he ends up committing here. -
Zach Orr Mentioned on Tonight Show
ntmeangreen11 replied to Zeleny' Orel's topic in Mean Green Football
Orr forced another fumble on kickoff coverage after the ravens scored on their first possession. Unfortunately neither were recovered but two forced fumbles in the playoffs your rookie year is pretty remarkable. -
Son Of A #%+=# Freaking Holding Penalty! Aaaargh!
ntmeangreen11 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
He's been healthy all year I don't think a freak play where he had a helmet meet his kneecap before he could even react last season means much. If Lance played for Jacksonville, Tampa Bay, Oakland, or the NYJ he would have had a lot more carries this season. I like seeing him in a cowboys helmet as well but it might be in his best interest to sign with another team either this offseason or next. Murray is a restricted free agent as well so while the Cowboys will give Lance a qualifying offer I highly doubt they would match if another team offered a higher salary. The question is whether or not he has done enough to catch the eye of other teams and I'm leaning towards no right now, the playoffs could change that. -
Son Of A #%+=# Freaking Holding Penalty! Aaaargh!
ntmeangreen11 replied to FirefightnRick's topic in Mean Green Football
Lance is a restricted free agent this coming offseason and hopefully another team will pick him up and give him more opportunities running between the tackles. I'm confident the Cowboys will give him a qualifying offer, maybe another team has noticed Lance and will give him a shot. I believe he could carry the ball 10-15 times a game in addition to maintaining the third down back role. There are several backs who are Dunbars size who do just fine. He went for 12/84 against Oakland last year before his injury, that was the only game he was given a chance to get a few consecutive carries. -
Osborn, Greer, Berglund I'll believe it when I see it.

We could still have a couple more JUCO players commit and when you factor in the 3 grayshirts that will be part of the 2015 class we're running out of spots quickly.

I know it won't happen but it would be the ultimate LOL if we got invited to the AAC thus cancelling our 10 year series with SMU. Which like the 1-1 with Tulsa would then be blamed for the next 15 years worth of bad OOC scheduling.

The audio for the stream is Jub, win/win.

"Craphole" is a tired lazy bit In a down season for both schools a win to close out the year would be a boost for the offseason and the head to head recruiting battles to come in December on through February and then to the spring evaluation period for the class of 2016. This game is still very important even though the postseason is not on the line for either school.

With McCarney, It's All Downhill From Here
ntmeangreen11 replied to cl_1_2008's topic in Mean Green Football
My mistake, well next year is the year redshirting players and having multiple fifth year players should pay off. The reality is several players will have to make huge strides in the offseason to be a bowl team in 2015. -
With McCarney, It's All Downhill From Here
ntmeangreen11 replied to cl_1_2008's topic in Mean Green Football
We have been hosed in recruiting every season. -We have zero redshirt seniors and two redshirt juniors because of how many kids left in the 2011/2012 classes. Mac's plan for building this team (redshirting half the class or so) won't be in full effect until 2016. His plan has always been to win with a roster full of redshirt players but he wasn't able to do that in year one and two. -I remember when we were in the sun belt, pretty much any high school kid with an offer from a CUSA school would turn us down. We are now in CUSA (with a much larger budget and first class facilities) and have lost out on players to sun belt schools each year of the Mac era. -The amount of scholarships awarded to punters/deep snappers is strange. -JUCO recruiting has been awful for the most part. Andrew Power (Class of 2011 JUCO TE), James Jones and Shawn Mckinney (to an extent) made an impact. Justin Manu, Quenton Brown, Brock Berglund, Brent Obsorn, Darren Denucci, Matthew Dash, Akii Smith, Josh Greer, DQ Johnson, Deleon McCord have been busts. That is 3 out of 13 JUCO players panning out over 4 signing classes. -Put a lot of time and resources into recruiting Louisiana in 2012 and got nothing in return, Lajaylin Smith is the only player who remains and he backs up freshmen at LB as a junior -Repeatedly made comments about how big players were when he arrived yet starts a 5'11 220 pound DE in year 4... -Class of 2011 was put together in a couple of months, no one expected miracles. However, this team is bad because of the class of 2012. A class where we signed six defensive lineman and have seen very seen very little production from any of them. Class of 2012 OL Boone Feldt- Gone S David Busby - Gone RB Mark Lewis - Gone JUCO CB DQ Johson - Bust, graduated WR Nick Schrapps - Gone DE Jarrian Roberts - decent player WR Roderick Lancaster - gone DE Malik Dilonga - minimal impact so far DE Brad Horton - gone DT Calvin Wallace - minimal impact if any ATH Rex Rollins - Haven't seen him much this year CB Xavier Kelly- gone OL Ryan Rentfro - unknown up to this point S Devante Davis - gone LB Dustin Clark - gone RB Jamarcus Jarvis - gone LB Jamal Marshall - minimal impact DT Dutton Watson - minimal impact DT Mustafa Haboul - minimal impact LB Lajaylin Smith - backup WR Carlos Harris - The classes saving grace OL Connor Trussell - Unknown up to this point -
All the momentum is on our side, hopefully we will run away with the game in OT.

Another great MiniMac performance
ntmeangreen11 replied to H-towngreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Tell me which QB on the roster currently is capable of consistently putting up those numbers? If McNulty ends up being DT Version 2 for the rest of this year and next season I will take that over what I've seen from Greer and DW this season. -
What a huge pickup! GMG

How was I negative? Bogenschutz has played one game and got hurt so far for UTSA, I personally think we got the better east Texas QB. I'm excited for the offense in the future, Tee is probably one of the youngest guys on the team and has a lot of room to grow. Rutherford will be a redzone threat but both of these guys need time to develop I'm glad they're being redshirted. I know the odds are slim given our luck at UNT but I'm hoping one of Means, DW or Chumley will take hold of the QB position in the spring and we'll see a different offense in 2015.

MGB: Rickey Brice talks about visit to UNT
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
"Brice said he has also received offers from USC, UCLA, Texas, Oklahoma State, Temple, St. Louis and Texas Tech." “I am leaning toward signing with North Texas,” Brice said Wow, landing a player of his caliber and height would be incredible for UNT, I wonder why TCU & SMU haven't jumped in to the race. I could be the only one but even before reading this story I have been feeling a strange amount of optimism for the basketball team. I think the natural law of UNT sports will continue and since we're pretty bad at football this year, basketball will bounce back. -
A year after bowl appearance , Buffalo U fires HC

Wow, the guy had Khalil Mack for four years and mustered one winning season. Sounds about right.
