Bob Sturm breakdown of Lance Dunbar
ntmeangreen11 replied to All About UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
Cowboys released the PUP list as they open camp today and it includes Darren McFadden. LD will have plenty of chances to prove he deserves more carries, let's hope he can stay healthy. -

I had no idea we only had 15 seniors on scholarship this season, I hope I am reading the pinned spreadsheet correctly. With DW and Ochs gone will that give us 17 spots for this class? -
My patience is growing thin and I think I have posted enough about our results in recruiting lately but at the same time expectations were as low as possible coming in to 2013 and we could very well make a similar jump again this season. I am holding out hope that will be the case and our worries will be put aside by a staff a lot of people have lost faith in. We must make it to a bowl game this season or I am ready to move on, two bowl games in 5 years is not much to ask.

I have completely stopped following recruiting, part of that is due to having a career and not as much free time as I used to and part of it is the only time I expect us to get a commitment is if we are their only offer. To me it only makes sense to follow Vito's blog, read the articles when the commits do come in and then start paying attention in late November around the time JUCO's start setting up visits. It seems like after striking out with almost every prospect who had more than one offer we scour the senior class for overlooked players to fill the scholarships in December-January. IIRC Dodge used to wait until a prospects senior year to put out offers, add some JUCO players and then round up whoever else has no other options for FBS football. Mac gets a lot of credit for the camps he runs and how much more visible we are to recruits and parents in younger classes yet we are still seeing the same results in recruiting. North Texas scouring for players in January after missing out on most of the players they offered in the spring. I hope I am proven wrong this season and Mac turns this thing around, but I'm beginning to think we hired extended the wrong guy. -
Canales and Co. Missed a kid 15 miles away
ntmeangreen11 replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
Thank you Billy I certainly don't have the time to do that kind of research. We lost out on almost every kid we offered from Louisiana who Tulane also offered but that was a few classes ago I suppose it's not relevant in 2015. I do remember us losing out on a DE from Pilot Point to La Tech as well as a 3* WR from FW but I'm not sure what class that was. Recruiting will only get tougher with the new head coaches in place at Tulsa & SMU we need to make it to a bowl game this season and win more battles than in years past. -

We shouldn't routinely lose to ULL, Tx State, UTSA, Houston, SMU, La Tech, & Tulane. The last four have ate our lunch for a while now, but we should at least be batting .500 against the first three and we have not even come close to that over the years. -
Our hopes for solid QB play rest on the shoulders of a JUCO QB at his 4th school. I don't have high hopes but maybe it will work out. If he is an above average CUSA QB I think we can hover around 6 or 7 wins the next two years, if he proves to be elite at the CUSA level we could see a couple seasons like 2013. Hopefully we will grab a high school QB in the next two classes who will turn our luck around I just don't see it between Greer, Chumley and Means. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every once in a while, right?

What have you guys seen that made you think he was the answer at QB anyways? I watched the UAB game and saw everything I needed to understand he was not the answer. Everyone loves to bash McNulty but I firmly believe he would give us a better chance to win than DW this year, which in truth isn't saying much. This seems so much like the Brent Osborn situation from a couple years ago. Or the Brock Berglund situation, not once when he was on the field did I think this guy had the potential to be a good D1 QB. He had two good games against Idaho (in the 4th Q with a huge lead) and against a terrible FCS team. The other games he looked like a deer in headlights. Coach Mac puts the best players on the field at every position, he was right about Osborn, McNulty, DW, and if D. Smith winds up being worse than Mini Mac then he will be the next backup QB in line everyone on this forum is convinced is the next John Elway being sabotaged by Coach Mac. I'm no fan of DW, but losing a RS SO is another blow to an already weak QB group. I have no idea what to expect from Smith, he could light CUSA up this season or he could be the next transfer to flame out. Here's what QB could look like in 2016. D. Smith - RS SR J. Greer - SR C.Means - RS SO C. Chumley - RS FR At some point whoever is responsible for recruiting quarterbacks needs to be held accountable.

Lance Dunbar to return to the Cowboys in 2015
ntmeangreen11 replied to ntmeangreen11's topic in Mean Green Football
Apparently Lance has not signed his tender offer yet. I guess he is doing the smart thing and waiting out free agency to see if a better offer comes along. "With the troubled young Joseph Randall and also sparingly used Lance Dunbar, who still hasn’t signed his 1 year tender, the Cowboys could be looking to pick up the next future full time carrier if Gordon or Gurley find themselves still sitting when the Cowboys are on the clock." http://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/articles/with_the_27th_pick_the_dallas_cowboys_select/18604844 -

Pathetic. If this doesn't signal the need for change then what will? -
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/03/08/cowboys-dont-give-sterling-moore-a-restricted-free-agent-tender/ "The Cowboys did tender running back Lance Dunbar and punter Chris Jones. They will both make $1.542 million unless another team signs them to a deal Dallas isn’t willing to match."

Breaking — Sam Miller has decided to give up football
ntmeangreen11 replied to Harry's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Yes I couldn't remember his name for the life of me. "Highly rated" is a stretch especially since it was ESPN but I couldn't remember much about him other than he was the first guy rated 3* by any service committed to us. -
The Cowboys signed practice squad member Ryan Williams to a 2 year, 1.74M contract. They guaranteed a lot of that money which is highly unusual for a practice squad signing. I was under the impression the cowboys tender offer to Dunbar would be about 600-700k but according to the Star telegram the number is 1.575M for one year. I think it's very likely we will see him in another uniform next season, which is unfortunate for us Cowboys fans but probably better for Lance in the long run.

UNT's schedule is out... We will not rest
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Doesn't everyone remember that we had a home and home scheduled with Tulsa for 2013/2014 and then we joined the same conference? I mean you can't have a snafu like that and not expect to have piss poor schedules through 2018 at least...right? 12 straight games, 12. -

Is it possible his injury was a concussion or a neck related injury leading us to pull the offer? The same thing happened with a highly rated OL commit we had last year whose name escapes me.
