MGB: Benford comments on future, Villarreal declines
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
There's no way anyone in their right mind would advocate for Benford coming back next season. There's also no way RV should still be here so who knows what's going to happen. -
No. Alabama-Huntsville.

Seth Litrell's new DL coach Derrick Leblanc

Glad to be wrong on this one. -
I'm sure the live stream will go perfectly with no delays, no cut outs & perfectly synced audio just like last year.

Seth Litrell's new DL coach Derrick Leblanc

UAB is allowed to sign JUCO players this class who don't have their grades in order and give them a year to get it straight without losing eligibility. That's why they have a plethora of former SEC signees who transferred to JUCOs and are now committed to them. JMO, Maybe he will consider us but I wouldn't read too much in to the decommitt. -
Perhaps we already have our coach and he will not be announced until after signing day in the second round of position coach shuffling.

MGB Littrell presser follow-up thoughts
ntmeangreen11 replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
A quick look at SMU's 247 page shows 24 commits in December. A couple guys with 20+ offers, a handful with 10+ offers, a bunch with 5+ and a few with 3 or less. Their recruiting has vastly improved and I would love to have a class filled with guys who other FBS teams thought could play at this level. Our roster is filled with guys no one else offered, I don't think it's wise to expect a good season next year, JMO. -
I just think he's only been on campus a short time and is redshirting, there is no reason to believe he is buried on the depth chart. He's on the #10 team in the country playing for an ACC championship, going to school in beautiful Chapel Hill, and will get a degree from UNC. If he is truly unsettled and wants to follow the coach that recruited him to a school much closer to home, I am all for it don't get me wrong. I would love to have him.

I think Nathan Elliott would be crazy to leave Chapel Hill to come here, JMO. I'm against signing a 1 year transfer. It will be a tough sell and there is not enough talent here to be in bowl contention next season. Waste of a scholarship IMO. If there is one still available, sign a quality HS QB to redshirt, then start working on quarterbacks in class of 2017.

Littrell to be named UNT HC per Brett McMurphy
ntmeangreen11 replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm just excited to (hopefully) see the recruiting forum start buzzing with new offers in the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see who we target and how many of those kids are from Tx. -
And the there were two: Meacham and Littrell

I was literally just about to post the exact same sentence, I believe his ceiling is higher as well. -
I'm fine with Litrell, Meachum or Applewhite let's just get this show on the road and get on the recruiting trail.

Which recruiting class is Mac's best?
ntmeangreen11 replied to Wag Tag's topic in Mean Green Football
The problem with the line of thinking that the 15 class is stock full of talent is that they're on the field because of piss poor results from the upperclassmen not because they are worthy of playing yet. Hard to call the 15 class a success with so many JUCO players who (once again) have not panned out. I guess 2014 was okay, we actually grabbed a few players with decent offer sheets. -
-
I don't think we're a bowl team but I also think we should wait a couple more games until we decide the season is already over. If there's any bright spot it's that we had a lot of young guys playing yesterday between the last two classes who will get plenty of reps this year.
-
There is no way we will fire Mac this year, I have my doubts we will even fire Benford after another losing season.
-
Wow. Stick to the RV bashing, there is actually some truth to those posts.

Bob Sturm breakdown of Lance Dunbar

Cowboys released the PUP list as they open camp today and it includes Darren McFadden. LD will have plenty of chances to prove he deserves more carries, let's hope he can stay healthy. -
Current 247 team rankings (7/16/15)
ntmeangreen11 replied to BillySee58's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
I had no idea we only had 15 seniors on scholarship this season, I hope I am reading the pinned spreadsheet correctly. With DW and Ochs gone will that give us 17 spots for this class? -
My patience is growing thin and I think I have posted enough about our results in recruiting lately but at the same time expectations were as low as possible coming in to 2013 and we could very well make a similar jump again this season. I am holding out hope that will be the case and our worries will be put aside by a staff a lot of people have lost faith in. We must make it to a bowl game this season or I am ready to move on, two bowl games in 5 years is not much to ask.

I have completely stopped following recruiting, part of that is due to having a career and not as much free time as I used to and part of it is the only time I expect us to get a commitment is if we are their only offer. To me it only makes sense to follow Vito's blog, read the articles when the commits do come in and then start paying attention in late November around the time JUCO's start setting up visits. It seems like after striking out with almost every prospect who had more than one offer we scour the senior class for overlooked players to fill the scholarships in December-January. IIRC Dodge used to wait until a prospects senior year to put out offers, add some JUCO players and then round up whoever else has no other options for FBS football. Mac gets a lot of credit for the camps he runs and how much more visible we are to recruits and parents in younger classes yet we are still seeing the same results in recruiting. North Texas scouring for players in January after missing out on most of the players they offered in the spring. I hope I am proven wrong this season and Mac turns this thing around, but I'm beginning to think we hired extended the wrong guy. -
Canales and Co. Missed a kid 15 miles away
ntmeangreen11 replied to GMG24's topic in Mean Green Football
Thank you Billy I certainly don't have the time to do that kind of research. We lost out on almost every kid we offered from Louisiana who Tulane also offered but that was a few classes ago I suppose it's not relevant in 2015. I do remember us losing out on a DE from Pilot Point to La Tech as well as a 3* WR from FW but I'm not sure what class that was. Recruiting will only get tougher with the new head coaches in place at Tulsa & SMU we need to make it to a bowl game this season and win more battles than in years past. -

We shouldn't routinely lose to ULL, Tx State, UTSA, Houston, SMU, La Tech, & Tulane. The last four have ate our lunch for a while now, but we should at least be batting .500 against the first three and we have not even come close to that over the years.
