Are we 100% sure this was a grades issue?
-
I will give you that in college, a very talented running back will have way more of an impact that he would in the NFL. But this is not a 4* recruit with 30+ offers we turned away. There are several truths in football that have been proven correct that I was skeptical of at first as well. 1- You don't have to run the ball well for play action to work 2- Running backs don't matter, offensive lines do 3- Running on 2nd and long (even after an incomplete pass) is the most inefficient thing a play caller can do.

I like his tape more than Anterrious Grays who we beat Prairie View A&M and Southern for but I'm not overly excited. On tape Gray has really slow feet, is clearly suited to play inside and unfortunately I didn't see anything to lead me to believe he will be an effective guard either. Does anyone realize how insane it is that heading in to year five zero high school OL we have signed have been good enough from day one to not get redshirted, and zero high school OL signees have turned out to be all conference players? The new OL coach had 4 all conference selections in his first season, 1 in his second season, 1 in the third, and zero last season. That's not encouraging, the history of busts is very discouraging, and the only thing we can hang our hat on with this signing is "hey at least we beat UTSA for the JUCO tackle who won't make it to campus until the fall and likely won't help in year one of 2 years of eligibility". I don't want to be Mr. Negative but I don't get it, to me it's like the McMillan and Sa'afi signings for the DL a couple years ago. They're guys with big frames who don't offer anything more than depth. Signing a project DE who needs to add 50 lbs or a high school kid who's talented but might not qualify seem like better uses of two scholarships to me...

Football in general. Both starting running backs in todays super bowl are UDFA's. It just doesn't make sense to invest major resources in running backs anymore.

This is not the LB from Lake Dallas who is now in the NFL, running back is the least important position in football in 2020. When you factor in his 40 time (4.68) and the fact that on tape the majority of his broken tackles are from players bouncing off of him you can understand why we (and 126 other FBS schools) passed. I'm not saying he is a bad player and the 40 time doesn't scare me that much, but you have to wonder if he will shed tacklers like that at the FBS level. If that skill doesn't translate he's going to have a tough time being effective. All thing considered I would have offered but at the same time, the players we are trying to sign with the last few spots are at crucial positions. Two JUCO tackles and two high school defensive lineman. Those are positions we have struggled to recruit, running back is not. We are set to lose three senior running backs next season and we will be able to pitch playing time to every RB we recruit. I just don't think we are going to rue the day we passed on him.
-
Given that we are set to lose three scholarship running backs this season, not offering Cobbs seems a little more crazy. After next season it's just Siggers, Adaway and the incoming Isaiah Johnson. Although I do get it if at the end of the day they are scared of his overall speed and him not being as effective at the FBS level. I would really like to know how many spots we have left in this class and if we are prioritizing OL/DL players for those spots.

Branard Wright DT Dallas Carter 2020

We should be doing this with at least two scholarships every year considering how many kids end up transferring anyways. -
New D-Line Recruits Prepared to Work
ntmeangreen11 replied to UNTLifer's topic in Mean Green Football
Hopefully we are starting to build a foundation of signing good defensive lineman, keeping them on campus and developing them to their fullest potential. Both McCrae and Leblanc have three more years to play, both Walker and Dotson from last years class were redshirted , Rausaw had an excellent offer sheet and Johnson seems like the exact kind of guy you want on your roster. We have to hope Walker, Dotson and Johnson play above their offer sheets but if they don't transfer and could just be average CUSA players that would be a huge improvement from years past. We lost a high school DL commit and a junior college DL commit right before early signing day, I would imagine they're doing everything they can to get two more DL commits. -
Ekeler Returning to UNT as Special Team Coach

OFFER A POSITION TO MARCUS TRICE -
I am sorry I didn't realize it locked these spreadsheets from outside viewing this should work:
-
This includes incoming recruits in the true freshman column as well as JUCO recruits being placed in to the correct class. The total number of scholarship players may be wrong, walk ons could have earned scholarships, some players from 2020 class could blueshirt etc. EDIT: This link should work now https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQ6-xAL5v7We3TF9lIATCKzsHWl8V_JbuWvJtORYFH-2vwVJZMAZhYCvKmA63FzZ74N9E_IuCi_LjsI/pubhtml

I put the the breakdown of scholarships including incoming recruits in to a spreadsheet. I added the JUCO commits to their respective class, I came up with 73 scholarship players but that could be wrong. We are going to be young next year and judging by how few players we have in the JR/RS JR class we will be VERY young in 2021. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lpgjCn8q25mOuUAsZ9z-aRi3xLvSdTQ3S7Trq0jTql4/edit#gid=0

Ekeler Returning to UNT as Special Team Coach
ntmeangreen11 replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
Ekeler found EJ Ejiya all the way up at a JUCO in Minnesota and I always liked him. Who cares if he didn't buy a house here, Bodie Reeder did and guess what? He's selling it less than a year later. This is a bad ass coach who produced when he was here. I love the hire welcome back Coach Ekeler. -
I don't see Ron Tiavaasue on the roster, so we used a scholarship on a JUCO TE that only ULM wanted who won't even be here for the spring when we already signed two high school TE's one of which enrolled early? That's almost as irresponsible as having 8 (hopefully at least 11 by next fall) total defensive lineman on scholarship heading in to year 5 as the head coach of an FBS program.

This team deserves more support and they sure as hell deserve more attention from GMG. I remember several years ago when we were rocking and rolling in basketball the forum had a chat room that was really active on game nights. We need that to return it will make people tune in to games more often. @Harry

2020 East/West Shrine Game QB Preview (TDN)
ntmeangreen11 replied to jdennis82's topic in Mean Green Football
They are having Ladarius line up in a 4 point stance, the one play he put he hand in the ground he beat the RT inside and met the runner in the backfield and got a TFL. He hasn't applied much pressure in passing downs yet. Still no Mason, the 2nd QB from the West is going out for his second series now with 4 mins remaining in the half so I would guess he will start the second half. -
Rico did a lot for us, the best thing he could do in my opinion is focus on his rehab for now. I'm not sure it makes sense with his recovery timeline to compete at pro day. A little more recovery time so he can run the fastest time possible is crucial and I have no doubts he will be invited to Dallas Day the Cowboys combine for local players. This guy can play, his ability to create separation and catch contested balls won't be lost on scouts. His injury history including the hamstring pulls early in his career won't be lost either so in a VERY deep WR 2020 class he will have to go the UDFA route. Whatever happens, he was a special player who will forever be a legend for his TD catch during the drive against UTSA.

2020 East/West Shrine Game QB Preview (TDN)
ntmeangreen11 replied to jdennis82's topic in Mean Green Football
Anyone who has cable can watch it through the NFL Network website, there are plenty of non legal sites streaming the game as well. Hamilton played a few snaps on the West's 2nd defensive possession at LE, unfortunately he didn't do much but it's early. No Mason Fine yet at the start of the 2nd quarter. -
A clear improvement if he ends up being the hire. Respect to Coach Yellock but I remember a DRC article last spring about the DL and his comments just rubbed me the wrong way. I know you can't trash your own players but he made it seem as if we would be better up front in 2019. I just hope he doesn't look at the job like Ekeler did and see it as a one year stop in between P5 coaching jobs.

6'3 270 DT from North Carolina, I'm not sure how eligibility works with prep school but I would guess this is Alvin Dempsey's replacement and they see him playing inside. We appear to be his first offer. https://247sports.com/player/kareem-stinson-46094776/ https://www.hudl.com/profile/7742978/Kareem-Stinson

They're gonna pull some nice players from East Texas in the coming years.

North Texas Releases Official 2020 Football Schedule

Traffic to their website has probably plummeted cant remember the last time I was on dentonrc -
Put me in the group that expects Bean to be starting next year, his track speed at that position and having a QB that can run 8-12 times a game will do wonders for the offense after losing a very talented QB.
