  1. Hey, guys... ...The Belt is The Belt. If we go on a tear - if any Belt school goes on a tear - we can win it. The hole we're in isn't as deep as we think. Or, as deep as Dickey and Dodge thought. What I'm saying is - every school in the Belt can be as bad as we are from week to week - and that's too our advantage!
  2. Well, TCU has already lost to SMU and Baylor this year, so the Big 12 looks like it's adding a big pile of nothing. This isn't a program that just "reloads" like at OU or Texas. I believe TCU did the best when the competition was low. They did a good job of taking advantage of bad conferences by winning and gaining interest. However, they will be no better than also-rans in a bigger conference. In all, if this is the type of program that is gluing the Big 12 back together, it's going to be a very rickety contraption.
  3. So, what happened to the picture of the lady who thinks that because some use their resourcefulness to rise above the pack that they should be punished with even more taxes than they already pay? Is she going to be at the FAU game? She needs to come by Section 111 so I can give her an economics lesson.
  4. He's done about everything he can. Maybe he could go door-to-door through the Denia neighborhood and talk to the folks there. Or, mow their lawns or something.
  5. You gotta hand it to the guy: he is trying.
  6. ...why not the Gilbert kid here in Denton? Come on, now. We love other school's quitters: http://espn.go.com/dallas/story/_/id/7064257/injured-texas-longhorns-quarterback-garrett-gilbert-transfer
  7. ...this Saturday night to celebrate FAU's loss. Forget about conference realignment and quarterbacks and the lack of Moon Pie around the office. Concentrate on the good. If we're going to be bad, we're going to be doing it in a very pretty, new, state-of-the art stadium. The price of admission is about what a pay-per-view ticket would be if anyone bothered to televise us. So, let's go out and enjoy the goodness of the badness.
  8. And, again...our DTs coming into the season really didn't have much more game experience than Thompson (or, Brooks).
  9. So that at the end of the season we aren't being railroaded by Belt teams because our thin DT rotation is beat to hell.
  10. Agree. If we look at bad against the Belt as we did against Tulsa, then I'll worry. FAU looked crappy against their non-Belt foes, but suddenly could score last weekend against the Belt school that took down FIU. Hey...it's the Belt. If we're not competing here, it's a problem. I expect a 4-4 record in the Belt this year. We almost had it last year with the injury parade. Whether we like it or not, this season the Belt is still our level. We must rise to it. The OU and Texas fans can go pee on each other - I'll be there Saturday night with as many people as I can drag to fill my four season ticket count! And, I'll pike away as much of Sonic's crappy/skimpy food deal as I can. KA-POW!
  11. Again, no Micah Thompson last week. Are we really going to just rotate three guys all year? If so, they will be worn to hell by the end of the season. No matter what Thompson does, at minimum he'd give the "experienced" guys a breather here and there. I hate to question McCarney because DL is supposed to be his strength as a coach. But, I questioned the hell out of Dodge for his use and strategy at QB, which was supposed to be his strength. Do these guys sometimes out-think themselves to the degree that they don't see the big picture? As much as the DTs have been a non-factor for most of the five games, I don't see how Thompson could be any less of a factor. I say put him out there for the sake of the health of the others from time to time.
  12. This is 111% correct. Tulsa is at the level we need to not only match, but exceed. TU is always going to be handcuffed by their size and lack of crap/gimme degree plans. Unless T. Boone Pickens showers them with $100 million, they're about as good as they are ever going to get. We need to supplant their DFW influence and beat them and their conference mates on the field. I like the home and homes with mid-majors far more than the guaranteed beatings to begin a season. Let's show that we can rise up to that level, then exceed it. If SMU gets a call up from Big East, we'll be staring down the reality that quality hires and department management got two local schools into BCS AQs while we fiddled around with Dickey, Dodge, and Fouts for far too long. I'm not complaining about what we have now. I'm just wondering if it's too late to change the way the conference realignment dominoes are going to fall.
  13. C-USA will be no cake walk for Tulsa. UTEP hung with Houston all game long. UAB gave Troy all it wanted. Those are potential losses. SMU and Houston are certain losses, given Tulsa's personnel problems. Tulsa is still wounded. We played them minus our starting QB and it showed. That we couldn't take advantage of Tulsa's missing personnel issues isn't so much a positive for Tulsa as it is a negative for us. Tulsa is a 6-6 team this year, if the card fall right. They have an outside chance at going 7-5 if they manage only to lose to SMU and Houston the rest of the way out.
  14. I didn't know until game time. Of course, I'm a fan - so why would I know? I know practices are closed, but did anyone have wind of this? Do we have any way to know who was practicing at #1 last week? If this was a game time decision, it was a very bad one. If it turns out they knew Thompson was gimpy all along and built the game plan around him anyway, I'd call that pretty stupid. It doesn't matter who you start - McNulty or Osborn - if neither of them were practicing at #1 this week. Either would have been at a disadvantage. Overall, I'm disappointed. Tulsa was really minus some big guns and it looks like we went out there with an experiment. Not pleased. SIDENOTE: I guess you won if you called Vegas and bet against the line at 23 - Tulsa only beat us by 17! OTHER SIDENOTE: Saw Mr. and Mrs. Kokjohn returning from the game just south of Ardmore this morning. Mrs. Kokjohn is a lead foot! Couldn't stay up with her.
  15. I know. Checked stubhub on a whim. Posted so that maybe it would get some fence-sitters interested. Although...GMG.com isn't generally the home of UNT's fence-sitting set.
  16. http://www.stubhub.com/tulsa-football-tickets/tulsa-vs-north-texas-10-1-2011-1049399/ Wow! Just checked stubhub and saw plenty available in sections 104 and 105. That's between the 40s/50 yard line on OUR side! If you don't have tickets yet, check it out.
  17. Am I crazy? MeanGreenGear.com has the new Nike Jerseys - men's, women's in pink. Is there a reason we don't use MeanGreenGear that I'm not hip to? They've got lots of, you know, Mean Green stuff. Women's: http://www.meangreengear.com/shopContent.aspx?company=unt&territory_code=unt1&category=Jerseys&subCategory=Women%27s&menuIndex=10 Men's: http://www.meangreengear.com/shopContent.aspx?company=unt&territory_code=unt1&category=Jerseys&subCategory=Men%27s&menuIndex=10 All can be personalize. Women's come standard with #1; Men's with #5, #21, or #35.
  18. If it turns out to be so, all the better for us and our conference realignment chances.
  19. Coaching. Coaching. Coaching. What did the high school defensive coordinator do in 2007 with our nine returning defensive starters? Just think...Iowa State mistakenly cut McCarney loose after the 2006 season. What if we'd hired him that December instead of Dodge? If he and his coaching staff are doing what they're doing with this youthful team, imagine what they could have done with those experience Mean Green defensive players in 2007! And...just think about what this defense will look like in a couple of years! If...we can keep all of these coaches. I'd begged for Bowen as a head coaching candidate over the past couple of seasons. If we pull out a winning season this year and next, he'll be an even hotter commodity. These guys can coach. These OL coach, the defensive coaches. The special teams coach. And, at this point, we're just seeing the rough draft!

  21. This will make city businesses much money if the Sooner fans sign on. They're so accustomed to going to the State Fair, though, you wonder if it will work.
  22. North Texas: 34ish Tulsa: 21ish
  23. Yeah. What? You didn't know Tulsa was a state?
