I don't worry a nanosecond about it. I'm just saying, if you do so, don't be shocked by ridicule. Also, this is message board ridicule. No one is actually going to walk up to a confused sportsdouche and tell them they're confused. It's already obvious. You just shake your head and move on.

DBs, current/future - Oklahoma
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Remaining: @ Louisiana: 5-1 (3-0) ULM: 1-4 (0-1) @ Arkansas State: 4-2 (2-0) BYE WEEK @ Troy: 2-3 (1-1) Western Kentucky: 1-4 (1-1) BYE WEEK Middle Tennessee: 1-4 (0-2) All of our remaining home games look to be winnable. The road games do look tough. Winning out at home gets us to 5-7. Stealing one on the road gets us to 6-6. Got to admit as well that it's strange to see two remaining bye weeks in the schedule so late in the season. I think that helps as young a team as this one. It's also nice to feel like we can win again. -
I understand that fully. But, wearing other team's gear is going out of your way to tell everyone else you have little interest in the home team. I've gone to TCU games with friends and borrowed shirts from them. I've gone to Astros and Rockets games with relatives down in Houston and just worn regular clothes. I stand by my point that if you choose to wear the gear of a school or team not in the stadium, you open yourself to ridicule. To many, it does look ridiculous.

I checked into OU's corners, Jamell Fleming and Demontre Hurst. Both were three-star rated coming out of high school. We also signed a couple of three star guys in 2011, Freddie Warner and Kerry Swarn. Plus, we've got a former OU four-star DB in Marcus Trice sitting out this year. With the experience Warner is getting this year and Trice on deck, I think we should do well next year. I think we should get maybe one JUCO to go opposite Swarn at safety for 2012. Lairamie Lee and Hilbert Jackson are also seeing good time this year, and should compete well for the starting slots. I post this because of stuff about many of our DBs being seniors, and the worry about a drop off. I think we have good athletes who can play already on the roster. This is a position I'm not as concerned with. What we need is depth on the DL and a couple of playmakers at WR. The new OL coach is doing a great job with the kids he has now. If he can do well with this young bunch, I've got no doubt he can work with just about any bunch. We're 2-4, 1-1 in conference, and I think things are looking up. A win on the road versus a surprising Louisiana would do wonders for us. I still say 4-4 or better in conference is not unrealistic for us this year. I think many of us would be really pleased with a 5-7 or 6-6 finish considering what we've seen in the past and how inexperienced we were on the lines coming into the season.

Injuries follow Dodge; Carey leads
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Saban said it looked like we are more disciplined this year than the last time we saw he saw us on film. That's good enough for me. -
http://www.chron.com/sports/article/Cody-Stroud-to-go-it-alone-as-McNeese-St-QB-2192878.php Riley's been out the last two games at McNeese with an undisclosed injury suffered against Southeastern Louisiana. I can't believe they're still lining the kid up at QB after all the beating he took up here. He wasn't starting, but from the article, says they were putting him in on 3rd and 4th downs. You'd expect a lot of blizting on 3rd downs. McNeese is 3-2 so far and Darius Carey is leading them in receiving. He's also returned a punt for a TD. Competition is lighter, to be sure. You just wonder how different things could be if Darius was still around here. Probably not too different because of the QB situation at Tulsa. Still, with Outlaw out, it would have been nice to have Darius in there. I like that McCarney is bringing discipline to the team. It's just too bad Darius was a casualty of it.

Good work. I think people believe they are running into Wal-Mart for a gallon of milk and a loaf of bread. Our parking situation is better than at most major programs. At least we have some parking. If you went to the Tulsa game, you see that they have no parking lots at all around the stadium. You park around where you can and find your way in...and that usually mean parking way up 11th Street. In my estimation, when they tear down Fouts, they should make it a huge parking lot for the games at Apogee. Also, they've got those bicycle guys working it as well. Besides, until they widen Bonnie Brae, that road really can't take much more road traffic on a game day.

I don't understand it anywhere. I've been to Ranger games where people are wearing Yankees, Dodgers, and Cardinals gear while the Orioles are the the opponent. I've been to Stars games with people sporting Red Wings jerseys when Anaheim is the team on the ice. To me, it's an attention thing. It's an "I'm above what I'm watching here" thing. Yes, I've come to watching your crummy team, but I'm a Longhorn fan in reality; ask me about Texas. Or, OU. Or, TCU. Or, any number of teams. It happens everywhere, not just with us. Some people want to stick out. Fine. But, if they want to stick out, they shouldn't be soft-skinned when they are called out. They want to draw attention to themselves and they have.

After paying $20 to park and walking at least a mile at places like OU and UT, I find this discussion hard to believe. Parking at Fouts for $10 and only have to walk about a mile is a bargain in the college football world. You know what? Maybe our fans aren't ready for prime time. By the way, I think the Denton police have done a great job with the crowds.
-
There's nothing to discuss when they get it right. Green over white is right and proper. Now...if we could only get UNT, NT, Mean Green, or SOW on the helmets, we'd be in uniform nirvana.
-
Agree. Think of the number of Delgado jerseys we could sell to the Mexicans we eventually market to as well.

Sí. The Mexicans are already here. A ticket to a UNT game is cheaper than a ticket to an FC Dallas game. Come on, now. Let's try to hook up our hermanos Mexicanos...and their hermanas and primas. -

Agree, if for no other reason that at least Texas State would bring fans to put in the seats. We've got to stay regional to get this thing off the ground. As I've said, I love the Tulsa games as they should be the absolute marking point for us. They recruit our area and they pulled themselves out of a huge hole on and off the field. I'd push for Houston more. They brought a ton of fans. Texas State - yes. I'd go for Kansas as well. Many KU grads in the Metroplex. I think probably the thing to do is to find out the number of members of Dallas area alumni groups of various schools and try to pick them off. Even Indiana brought quite a few out. Texas, and DFW in particular, is teeming with people not born in the state. Our economy is a draw. Let's take advantage of it with our football schedule. To me, Houston, Tulsa, and Texas State should be slam dunk no-brainers for future scheduling.

Having Outlaw out hurt. Look, in that last drive, we had Casey Shutza and Breece Johnson in. We're thin at WR. Also, you have to give Breece Johnson props for sticking around. But, he is slow. At other schools, they'd have beefed him up and moved him to tight end or h-back. He doesn't have the speed to play WR at this level. We need Outlaw back for sure.

I just don't think people are very sports savvy in general. A couple of guys making the walk from Fouts' parking lot were bitching about the walk. I explained to them how short it was compared to games at OU or UT. They couldn't believe it. And, once you're in the stadium. There isn't a bad seat. But, how the hell would you know it unless you had something else to compare it to? I don't think many average Dentonites have ever been to a sporting event, so they don't know how good Apogee is from that stand point. I mean, you're practically on the field now in the end zone seats!

I told you all before...market it to the Mexicans. No one believes me. I live with a Mexican. They get very passionate about stuff, and they love attention. Show 'em some love and they'll help us fill up the place. Plus, no one drinks and grills like the Mexican. -
My kids enjoyed running around the end zone bleachers for just about the entire second half. But, I wish they hadn't had so much room. People missed a good game. I hope this thing is really turning around. I love the new stadium, but the reality is, it doesn't help to be playing in the Sun Belt. There may have been 20 FAU fans in the stands. It's just that no one cares. I hate to say it, but even joining that WAC might bring more interest and fans out. Yes, there was ALCS and Texas-OU, but.... Denton has got to be brought behind this thing. Denton County as well.
-
Oh, yeah...here it is:
-
Hmmm. This discussion sound familiar. I just can't remember where and when....
-
Guys, I like their stadium set up. I love Apogee. I'm happy that every school seems to have it's own design ideas now. It used to be just bleacher in a bowl or horseshoe. What we've done here and what FAU has done there is really nice. I do love their seat backs on every seat. And, as close as the seats are to the field, that place will get loud if they fill it up even half way. Anytime one of us in the Belt take care of business facility-wise it makes the entire conference look better. Let's be happy about that. Congrats to FAU. Looks like ya'll got a real nice new home... ...now, get to Denton so we can kick your asses!

I've seen them all. McNulty and Osborn, though, aren't Dodge recruits. My point was, we should have, after four years, had a pipeline of QBs and WRs, we don't. At QB, we were left so thin that we've got two brand spanking new recruits at #2 and #3. And, at receiver, we've got guys who drop the ball. Anyway, we beat Indiana. WKU and MTSU both look winnable. To me, they all look winnable. Heck, FIU without T.Y. Hilton was beatable, as Louisiana proved. We can win this thing if we keep consistent. But, look...those guy we have on the roster with WR and TE by their names are going to have to go after footballs the way Bynes did in the end zone versus Indiana. We can't have that play every now and then, then have the major bounce off hands, alligator arm, etc. Because we're talking about Rainey/Dunbar, the receiver have got to step up to open the running game more. I don't care how much body weight he put on during the off-season. We're not in the off-season, and his weight, like everyone's during the season will drop, and he's taking a pounding. The WRs and TEs need to man up and get this thing going to New Orleans.
-
We have players who line up at receiver, then run around the field the way receivers do. But, receivers go the additional step and catch the ball. That's the difference in what we have and what, maybe, other schools have. Again...hate to say it again...but the irony of having the "Spread Guru" Dodge here for four years and to have a roster so depleted and thin at QB and WR is stunning. Or,is it?
