...and hires a football coach: http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7242433/bob-davie-new-mexico-lobos-coach-source-says I always liked Bob Davie. But, the buttpods at places like Notre Dame run you off if you're not perfect. No school tries to live harder off their no-facesmasks, only white-guys football years than Notre Dame. I hope Bob Davie does well in Albuquerque. He, arguably, can't do worse. --------- Here's another questions: We hired Dan McCarney, an older, more experienced coach. Texas State, Franchione. New Mexico, Davie. Those aren't the question. Those are just statements. The question is, are we going to see a trend of schools saying, no more gambling on these coordinators who do good for a year or two at a non-BCS AQ? Give us old, fired BCS AQ. Hobbs, New Mexico is now a place Bob Davie will go. He'll be so popular there, he will own Hobbs!

Let's make our own bowl games like Boise State, Fresno State, and New Mexico did. It would really show off Apogee to the college football world. Um...Fort Worth Bowl on the campus at TCU? Anyone? Anyone? This is thinking big. See? You see what happened there? I thought outside the box. The box. The other schools had the wherewhithal to put a bowl game on their campuses. Let's do it. We could name it after our heritage - The Son of Worm Bowl! Or, The O'Clock Jazz Bowl. Or, The I Remember Getting Drunk At The Flying Tomato Then Stumbling Over To Riprock's To Get More Drunk Then Stumbling Down To Rick's Place To See If There Was Any Good Live Music And Drinking Some More Then Stumbling Up To O'Tays To See If My Girlfriend Was There And If Not Her Maybe One Of Her Girlfriends Or Some Other Random Hot North Texas Girl For A Nightcap Bowl.

Oh...and, they're 5-5, we're 4-6. That's only a one game difference. Their out of conference: Kentucky, loss Navy, loss Indiana State, loss LSU, loss Outside of LSU, they haven't exactly played a murderers row of schools. And, let's get this straight - an FCS school dominated them on their own field. If this thing goes to the wire, fine. But, don't be surprised if we shut down Rainey and win comfortably by two or three TDs. Honesty, had we not been "forced" to go to McNulty versus Tulsa and Louisiana, we might also sitting at 5-5 or 6-4. Yeah, we're a healthy starting QB in two games from already being bowl eligible or very close. How's that for a turnaround?
-
...they've won two games in overtime, and a third on a last second field goal. So, it's not like they're running out and dominating anyone. Their last three games: -Overtime win versus ULM, 31-28 -Last second FG win over FIU, 10-9 -Loss to LSU scrimmage playbook, 9-42 So, in the last three games, they've scored a whopping 47 points in regulation, and 3 in overtime. Not really sure why everyone is quaking in their boots with these guys. They've been more lucky than good. If we play as well as we have at home, and Derrick Thompson isn't knocked out of the game, this one shouldn't be the fistfight everyone says it is. Dunbar vs. Rainey? Who cares. We won on the road with Dunbar injured for most of the game. Deuce Hamilton is as capable of throwing down a 100+ yard game. No game is a gimme. But, this isn't the mountain some people have tried to make it out to be. The appears to be the type of team that you hit in the mouth early and can control the rest of the day.

WKU coming to prove "Bowen is an Idiot"?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks to me like Lance is one of those defensive coordinators who coaches from the field. So, he'll be within earshot of the student section.: I'll disappointed if our creative UNT students don't come up with some good signs as well. Throw ZZ Top's "Driving While Blind" and George Thorogood's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" over the P.A. as well. -
WKU coming to prove "Bowen is an Idiot"?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Guys let's cut the crap here, okay. WKU has won five in a row in the Sun Belt. Again, Belt is Belt. Need I remind you all that FCS Indiana State took WKU apart 44-16 at WKU earlier in the year? I don't care how "good" WKU looked while LSU ran a scrimmage offense at them all night. Belt is still Belt. And, if Indiana State can run roughshod over WKU at their own house, we can surely do it here. WKU by 10 my ass. Us by 10 and probably 20. Hell, the Sycamores beat 'em by 28! They better sack up, too, because Mr. Three DWIs will hear it from our student section. -
WKU Defensive Coordinator gets 3rd DWI

Ridiculous bullsh*t from the WKU press releases...remember, these are adults: From Lance Guidry: "I would like to apologize to my family, our players, coaching staff, administration and fans for the undue attention my poor judgment has caused. Our football team put forth a tremendous effort against the nation's top ranked team, and I have done a disservice to our entire program by shifting the focus away from where it belongs." Comment: Uh, Lance...drunk driving is cause for attention, son. Also, the point should be the danger you have caused on the road multiple times, not how WKU performed against LSU. Can the routine. Also, if you "would like to apologize" then go ahead and do so. Nothing's preventing you. From Willie Taggart: "While Coach Guidry did not miss any meetings or functions while he was away from our team hotel, his conduct was certainly not consistent with our value system and how we must operate. He understands the seriousness of his actions, and he and I spoke to our entire team about this before we left the stadium last night. This type of conduct is not acceptable, there will be disciplinary measures as a result, and they will be handled internally. Our football team is a family, and families stick together during challenging times. We have two very important games remaining, and our program will be focused on finishing the season strong and reaching our goal of winning a Sun Belt Conference championship." Comment: What a relief that Coach Guidry was at all the meetings and functions. What you do in front of people is as important as what you do when no one is looking. In fact, at WKU, it's a wash - you act right in public and make the meetings and function, we'll let whatever you do in your free time slide without penalty of missing games. It's good that the team got to hear Coach Guidry talk after the game Saturday night. It was important for the WKU players to see that drinking and driving will not keep the coaches off the sideline. Accountability is never to be public, shameful, or meaningful. Finally, it's good that Coach Taggart can brush it all aside by handling it "internally" so as not to impede progress towards a possible championship. Rings and trophies are far more important than punishing someone for driving drunk and endangering the lives of others. From Ross Bjork, Director of Athletics...this one's long and, by far, the most full of crap: "I am personally disappointed in Lance’s actions during our trip to Baton Rouge. Lance is a great football coach and has brought great energy to our team and defense since he arrived." Comment: How awful. Because a guy can coach and get kids excited, we thought he was Jesus. You must have been shattered. "Right away, Lance was very forthcoming, remorseful and accepted total responsibility for his actions...In terms of Saturday's game, we assessed all of our options and felt it was in the best interest of our student-athletes to have Lance coach them against LSU. Removing Lance from the sideline would have been a detriment to our players who have worked so hard to be in this competitive position so late in the season. Lance’s punishment should not be at the expense of our student-athletes. Because of Lance’s contriteness and honesty after the arrest and the information we gathered, it was decided that he would coach the game." Comment: We never want to be mistaken for people who try to show kids that you pay for mistakes. Our lesson to the kids should be plain: Football is so important that drunk driving should not keep you out of the big game. Just say you're sorry and suit up. After all, other people have worked so hard. Your continual reckless disregard for human life over a period of years outside of a football stadium should have no bearing on what happens inside a football stadium. “When all university employees are hired, outsourced criminal background checks are performed.... Comment: We checked and found nothing, and even so...we don't even do the background checks ourselves. So, if there was something we hadn't found, it wouldn't be our fault anyway, it would be the third party vendor's fault. Unfortunately, mistakes are a part of life, and how you deal with them will determine much about the future and how we all make decisions as a leader. Lance owned this mistake from the moment we became aware of it, and he understands as a public figure the standards are different from others. I am convinced he will learn from this and our team and staff will be focused on the last two games of the regular season as we compete for a championship. Comment: It's unfortunate that they make police reports public so that we have to be going through the motions here. We've already told you Lance is sorry, and by letting him coach we are giving our players the example we cherish at WKU - words speak louder than actions. Our athletes need to understand that the important thing is pursuing championships, not whether you've piled up a DWI or two over the years. FREEBIE: Big Ten, take that old trophy with Joe Pa's name on it out of the trash can and give it to WKU - they're trying real hard to earn it...because their student athletes are working so hard, you understand. When athletes work hard, coaches can't be held responsible for piling up DWIs. -
WKU Defensive Coordinator gets 3rd DWI
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Let's see...one in 1990...another in 2003...this one in 2011. They're getting closer together. Gee, I wonder if these are the only three times in his life he's gotten behind the wheel drunk? Probably. Look, this is college athletics. They won't do anything about this guy until he injures or kills someone. WKU's already taking the easy way out, "It didn't come out in the back ground check." Oh, okay. They've done all they legally can. But, surprise. Somehow news outlets can discover within 24 hours he'd had two others in spite of their "background check." Accountability: Not at Penn State. Not at Western Kentucky. "Oh, Fake Lonnie...you're such a priggish hard ass. No one was hurt." Oh, good. Well, keep letting him go without consequences until someone does get hurt. There aren't enough drunk driving accidents these days. Let's keep all the ticking time bombs on the streets. After he kills or maims someone, we can be as sanctimonious as they are at Penn State...praying for the victims they ignored for at least nine years...reading a special letter from Joe Pa before the game. Someday we can all pray for the victims of Coach Guidry's drunk driving. All the families affected...right, Penn State? Coach Guidry can write a special letter for the players to read before the game. Coach Taggart can mewl to the press about wishing he had "done more." Frauds. -
Never thought of supporting women's basketball until we met Coach Aston at the Plano Coaches' Caravan. She's sharp and deserves our support. She can turn this thing into what OU and Baylor have with their women's teams...but, apparently, more people need to wake up to it. We've accomplished quite a bit over the past 18 months, so its difficult to criticize the athletic department too much... ...BUT... ...the athletic department is the initial public relations vehicle for all sports. So, they really seem to have dropped the ball here. The "check the website for schedule" mentality doesn't work. Many of us do. But, most of us have jobs and families and whatnot that occupy 99% of our thought processes during the day. Checking the website everyday for news isn't likely a reality for most. The athletic departments' job is to keep the alumni and fans informed. I don't know how else to put it. I do my job here, they do their job there. I can't do both.

Andrew Powers: three of his four receptions went for first downs, including the first of three third down conversions that helped us take the clock from 7:43 to 0:19 in the fourth quarter after Troy had pulled to within 38-33. Come on, now...can the tight end be a useful weapon for an offense or not? Can Canales get enough plays to Powers to get him some 2nd Team All-Sun Belt Conference love? A tight end at UNT getting some conference recognition love? What is this...2003 or 2004? Seriously, thanks, Chico! Keep it going.

After the FIU debacle to open the season, Coach McCarney said, "No excuses from anyone." And, so we've held him to that...many of us have. Injuries. Lack of depth. Youth. Any of these excuses could have been used this year at any given time for North Texas. We will look back at this win and say, though, here was a North Texas team who had every reason to pack it in, quit, and use those excuses to finish out the season with a wimper, and start flying the "next season/rebuilding" banner. But, you know what...they didn't! The coaches didn't. The players didn't. And, now, we the fans, can't. If you've got season tickets, you've really got no excuse, outside of family emergency, not to go support these guys against WKU and Middle Tennessee. Four wins. Many people around the country will look at our lack of depth, youth, and injuries, and say Dan McCarney is working a miracle just to get to four. But, that's not true. Remember, this is the guy who after being blown out said, "No excuses." He's just keeping his promise to us. Damn right, no excuses. And, that attitude seems to have finally caught on with this team. They're now seeing the ball, being the ball, Danny. Let's go out and support them next Saturday with our friends, neighbors, enemies, and strangers. Let's get them into Apogee and give the team a "No Excuses" attitude from the bleachers. This post has been promoted to an article

That was a great "No Excuses" win...what we needed.

Good to beat Troy again!

...and, some are saying, 'Yes.' Does this please me? Yes it does. Some say the quality of the recruits saying 'yes' hasn't changed much from when Dickey and Dodge were here. Other say it has changed. I don't really know other than to say we seem to have more of them (high school football players) committing earlier than at any point and time in the past. Literally thousands of years have gone by since this area has seen such commitment so early. Not even the Apache and Comanche were as dedicated to the area as these new band of commits seem to be. We will see whether they stay or whether they follow the buffalo and cattle in season to pastures further away. When you have a kicking kicker, he kicks and the ball goes through the goal posts; and, yet, I say, "Give me touchdowns instead of field goals!" No one can deny the values are different and sometimes swing the balance of a game to one side or the other. Tacklers tackle, and we are in need. We dance and dance and shout the names of Geronimo and Quanah Parker until our neighbors finally can take no more and call the local authorities. Not everybody has to be at work at 8:00 a.m., but our neighbors seem to. When we have runners run, hands up make catch, make catch, and drive away the spirits of Dropity Drop Hammer Hands. Can I tell you of my bountiful corn harvest? NO! We are nomads in this land until our Dan makes a stand...on one hand...singing with the band...before going to the can. WHAT!?!?!?!?!?! BOWLING GREEN AND TOLEDO REALLY PLAY FOR A PEACE PIPE TROPHY IN THE 21ST CENTURY??!?!?!?!?!?! KA-POW!

UNT V. Troy prediction thread

It will be good to beat Troy again; and, at their house as well. Turn off the lights when you leave. -
This is a good story. Jesus is important.

Plaintiffs attorneys will happily sue with either the live Joe Paterno or the dead Joe Paterno's estate.

UNT is shorter and more to the point than N TEXAS or NORTH TEXAS.

Exactly.

I'm not sure how all Boards work, but generally they turn over every two or three years...four maybe. So, my guess is, the current Board wasn't the Board seated when the incidents took place. Nonetheless, that's passing the buck way too far up the line. Person of guilt #1 is Jerry Sandusky for committing the crimes. Person of guilt #2 is Mike McQueary for witnessing a child being raped by Sandusky and (1) not stopping it, (2) not reporting it to the police, and (3) not following up. Person of guilt #3 is Joe Paterno for taking the information about the rape from McQueary and (1) not reporting it to the police, and (2) simply punting it up the line, and (3) not following up. Person of guilt #4 is Tim Curley for taking the information about the rape from Paterno and (1) not reporting it to the police, and (2) simply punting it up the line, and (3) not following up. Person of guilt #5 is Gary Schultz for taking the information about the rape from Curley and (1) not reporting it to the police, and (2) simply punting it up the line, and (3) not following up. Person of guilt #6 is Graham Spanier for taking the information about the rape from Curley and Schultz and (1) not reporting it to the police, and (2) apparently quashing it altogether, and (3) not following up. Let's just stop here. Here are five adults who had knowledge of the rape of a 10-year old boy by a 61-year old man, and not one of them notified authorities of the obvious crime. And, some people want to bring the current Board into question? The issue should have never reached the Board. If persons #2-6 had given a damn about anything other than Penn State football, they would have reported the crime immediately! The bulk of my venom go to #2, McQueary. How he didn't step in a kick Sandusky's ass right then and there I'll never be able to comprehend. Sandusky sits in a jail cell now, and in a manner of weeks will be heading to the penitentiary. He'll get his. It's galling to me that everyone else, it appears, will walk without jail time because they kicked the information up the line and had, therefore, done all that they legally had to do. It's the biggest damn cop out in the history of college scandals. Board, hell...five grown men withheld their knowledge of the rape. Like Sandusky, they should all be legally culpable for every crime he committed that day and thereafter. Thanks civil courts, they will be held at least civilly responsible. With 40 victims found so far, Mike McQueary, Joe Paterno, and the other three bottom feeding scum will spend years in court rooms and be driven into bankruptcy. O.J. Simpson only had one victims family to try to hid income from. McQueary, Paterno, and the rest will have dozens after all judgements in this thing are in.

After watching what is happening at Penn State...at Penn State with Joe Paterno...I'm going to be happy with North Texas as long as we're clean. I'm going to be happy with North Texas as long as we are not... ...making excuses for barfighting dopesmokers, like they do at Texas... ...making excuses for players being paid for jobs they didn't work, like they do at OU... ...making excuses for players being wined, dined, and 69'd by boosters, like they do at Miami... ...making excuses for players and their family being given cars and condos, like they do at Southern Cal... ...making excuses for paying players' parents to go to their school, like they do at Auburn... ...making excuses for paying off recruiting services to sway players to sign at their school, like they do at Oregon... ...making excuses for buying players cars and paying for their insurance as well, like they do at Boise State... ...making excuses for players' selling their uniforms and helmets, like they do at Ohio State... ...making excuses for coaches not reporting child molestation, like they do at Penn State... These are just examples I can think of off the top of my head. I know North Carolina is also under investigation for something. Clemson was this summer or still is.... It all starts to run together. I'm tired of bitching. After reading the court documents related to the Penn State mess, I'm sick. I'm sick at college athletics at the highest level being given an excuse to misbehave. I joke around here alot. I complain alot. But, reading about an assistant coach walking in on a coach raping a 10-year old boy in a shower, then thinking just telling the head coach would be enough...and, then, that head coaching thinking just telling the athletic director would be enough...and, then, the AD thinking just telling his superiors would be enough.... Are you f*cking kidding me? And, Joe Paterno threw Barry Switzer and Jackie Sherrill under the bus? He's as crooked as they ever were. And, in my eyes, worse. I can't take it mentally. If we never win another game, I'm fine with it. If we never get into another conference, I'm fine with it. You want to know what makes me proud? The University of North Texas has never committed an NCAA infraction. If that means we don't attract "the best" talent or "the best" coaches...to hell with it. We should want no part of it. When you're a man, you act like a man. And, a man doesn't sit by and let children - even children not his own - be abused. I don't care who the f*ck you are (Paterno), where the f*ck you are (Penn State), or what the f*ck you think the consequences might be (McQueary). I've got two kids and I swear by God if I ever saw what Mike McQuery saw Jerry Sandusky doing that day to that boy, Jerry Sandusky would not be living today. I can't for the life of me understand how so many grown men could live with that knowledge for nine years until forced to admit they saw it or knew it. You'll never see me bitch about North Texas again as long as we stay clean. Honor means more than what amounts to winning and glory in FBS football these days. We have more honor than every school out there. Winning clean will mean something if we ever do it.
