Freeze accepts the job at Ole Miss
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Dr. Seuss's topic in Mean Green Football
Ole Miss fans can't be happy about this hire. SEC is a league heavy with defense. Freeze is an offense guy. He'll suffer the same fate most offensive mind coaches suffer in the - lots of losses, and eventual firing. But, at least he'll be set for retirement. -
To the CITY OF DENTON & UNT STUDENTS
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to DallasGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
When I was a student at UNT, I had a lot of great sex. So, I mean, when I look at my degree on the wall and think back on those days, it may not have been all about whether the football team was winning or losing. I could have cared less because I was scoring anyway. Thanks, UNT, for the knowledge and women. A good football team back then would have been a bonus, but...you can't have everything, right? -
Mike Leach - Washington State HC
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
Scroll back through the season - I haven't given McCarney a pass. That's well documented. The losing record is the sole responsibility of McCarney...he said no excuses, and I've been one of the few fans who have held onto that. Mike Leach is overblown, and I'll go further - Kevin Sumlin is overblown as well. His defenses are terrible. If A&M hires him as they go into the SEC, it will be a worse hire than Dennis Franchione and Mike Sherman combined. -
Mike Leach - Washington State HC
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
They don't give rings for "if" you were there. OU turned the ball over a bunch and coughed up double digit leads with Leach as OC in 1999. They took care of the ball better in 2000 with Mangino calling the plays. Leach has no idea what ball control and defense are. Also, yes...at minimum, Dan Mullen and Charlie Strong, yes. Better than Leach. -
Mike Leach - Washington State HC
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
Leach and McCarney - they have this in common: neither have won a conference title as a head coach. Leach? Overhyped. All offense, no defense. McCarney? Coached in a big boy conference at one of the two smallest programs in it. McCarney's got championship rings as an assistant (Wisconsin, Florida), and a national title ring (Florida). Leach does not. Leach is a sideshow. McCarney understands it takes defense to win long term. Given the choice between the two, give me McCarney. -
Love the Pelini brothers! Of course, I love defensive-minded coaches moreso than offense flashes-in-the-pan. This is a very safe hire for FAU. Coached with Bill Snyder at K-State and Frank Solich at Nebraska and Ohio.

Yes! We're nearing off-season uniform talk time again! Mark me down, yet again, in the Put-A-Logo-On-The-Helmet column as well. I like the full bore UNT, worm, or son of worm - green helmet, white logo, outlined thinly in silver.

Canales name mentioned for UAB
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to ValleyBoy's topic in Mean Green Football
He's the linebackers coach for the 49ers. My guess is he won't be grabbing any of the NFL players by the throat and slapping them at halftime. Or...being in such close proximity and gesticulating so wildly that he could be mistaken for doing so. -
Mike Leach - Washington State HC
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to SHOSS's topic in Mean Green Football
I figured he'd go to the Pac-12. I thought it would be at one of the more southern colleges - UCLA or Arizona State. Wazzu. Leach on The Palouse. -
If we win Saturday...
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Looks like we'll be there with raincoats on! http://www.weather.com/weather/weekend/USTX0353 KA-POW! Wife will not sit through it; but, I'll endeavor to make a go of it. Really would like to see us finish 4-4 in conference. I thought we would do that last season, and we almost did. Hard to believe it's be since 2004 that we'd been .500 or better in conference...in the Sun Belt Conference. -
This. SMU and Rice have pooped on their golden tickets. Well, maybe not so much Rice. Rice has other things to do at their school besides football. SMU is poopfart. I don't care how many decades ago they had the "Death Penalty." Whole programs have been invented and been successful since then. Programs that came up straight out of the ground like so much summer corn in the fields. SMU just didn't try to care or not. I can see it now. Big East. All nothing. Do nothing. Be nothing. Running out of power and juice.

For those who follow the coaching staff changes
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
They weren't exactly blazing an upward path with Erickson. But, he did have them further down the road than Stoops has Arizona. My guess is Arizona State gets one of the former OU OC's - Leach or Sumlin. -
...any chance Canales or Bowen get snapped up? Both have long resumes. I think both could be head coaches in the future. Could they be tapped as OC or DC this go round? We haven't lit it up, but we have improved somewhat. Does our losing record save us from coaching changes for a season? For whatever reason, I've always believed that Mike Leach would end up in the Pac-12. And, I've always believed it would be at UCLA. Surely, his phone is ringing.

FAU Coaching Rumor
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
Patience wears thin quickly these days with guys gone after two seasons. -
...we will be 4-4 in the Belt. No bad considering how young we were entering the season. My only disappointment this season was McNulty over Osborn...even after games got out of hand. Most disappointing loss, by far, was the Louisiana game. Thompson goes down, we cough up a lead. Defense keeps us in the game before giving up 17 in the final stanza. Wish we'd tried Osborn in the fourth quarter of that one since McNulty wasn't moving the offense. All in all, pleased with the progress. Again, injuries riddled us this year. However, unlike other recent seasons where injuries decimated the team, it didn't cave. Since the firing of Dodge, we are 6-10, and could be 7-10...with the same or younger roster. These are good coaches, fellas. With a full season of recruiting, and some better luck on the injury front, we could blow up in 2012. If Canales stays, we'll be looking at three consecutive seasons with the same OC, and Thompson, who was brilliant at times, with all of that experience running his system...it could be really good if some pass catchers emerge. Amazing what we did with the young OL, DL, and inexperience at WR. Did I say these were good coaches?

From OU, supposedly heard on an OU sports radio show: http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?163346-Mike-Stoops-To..... Says Mike Stoops offered FAU job. I'm not believing it. I thought this was Mike Leach's job to take or leave.

Watching Iowa State hang with OU...Cyclones starting QB and HB from DFW: http://rivals.yahoo.com/iowastate/football/recruiting/player-Duran-Hollis-78111 http://rivals.yahoo.com/iowastate/football/recruiting/player-Jared-Barnett-85347 Three star players...one from Garland, one from Fort Worth. Another three star contributing for ISU, from Dallas: http://rivals.yahoo.com/iowastate/football/recruiting/player-James-White-73077 Got to start outrecruiting the Iowa States and Tulsas who come in the area. I think we are already making those inroads again. I just see games like this and think about it. So much talent here...but, you have to recognize which ones are real and which are just hype.

Can't really complain after the last two games. Power had three catches Saturday, four the week before. I think Chico has it down. What happens from here on out is that we've got to recruit tight ends that are receiving threats. I think we're on top of that already. Also, I will always keep wishing for a Tulsa-like H-Back. I know we call ours a U-Back. But, I thought Tulsa was cooked with Charles Clay graduating. But, Willie Carter picked up right where Charles Clay left off.

City targets game-day lawn parking
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to UNTflyer's topic in Mean Green Football
Question #1: Is Denton the stupidest city in America? Five to six times per year cars would be parking at homes, to the pecuniary benefit of the homeowner. The city is making money from the people being in their city and spending money. We can laugh at OU and LSU and other college cities as rednecks and backwards. But, somehow, their cities and citizens find a way to accommodate hundreds of thousands of people a year willing to give them money six weekends or so each year. Question #2: Does Denton even want to be a city? I live in a city called Frisco, a city drilled out of farmland in the middle of nowhere, which 20 years ago had no major roads leading into it. From the time I've graduated from UNT until now, Frisco has about doubled the population of Denton...Denton, sitting right off of the heavily traveled I-35. Question #3: Does any city in America do less with more than Denton? Plenty of educated people around, not much in the way of office buildings or big corporate employers. Yes, I know recently some have been built. But, this is in a town with a university with one of the highest student enrollments in the state of Texas, and in the country. Are there any progressive business thinkers in Denton at all? FREEBIE: Marijuana legalization proponents say there are no long-term harmful effects from smoking dope. I counter by showing you the city of Denton and its citizenry as Exhibit 1A, the leading example of people's brains being damaged by long-term marijuana use.- 15 replies

Yes. The guy they fired came straight out of a Big Ten program with no breaks in employment...and, see where that got them. Also, it's not like Davie has been lying around on the couch eating corn chips and drinking moonshine like Barry Switzer was when Jerry Jones hired him. Davie's been on TV and has seen the game change on and off the field. It's probably healthy for him to have gotten the perspective.

Tom Penders thinks UNT and La. Tech make sense for CUSA
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Wow. The C-USA fans are acutely overproud of their conference. I'd be happy with a C-USA with UNT, La. Tech, UTSA, and Texas State. Why can we not be in a conference that makes geographic sense?
