  1. This Political connections, my friend. We've have never had nor have we contemplated them. We row our own boat...and get smashed by APR and sixth year eligibility requests, which are handed out like so much Christmas candy to BCS AQ schools.
  2. I think Tebowing at Fouts is fine. There's nothing wrong with Jesus or Tebow. Jesus did many good things, and will do many good things in the future. And, Tebow is a pretty good role model for kids these days once you stack him up next to many others out there in the public eye. Tebow away, my young Mean Green friend. Tebow to your heart's content and whatnot.
  3. Agree. But...you look at a kid with a 42" vertical/4.5 40 and probably, as a coach, dream of your receivers coach bringing his potential out of him. Coaches do have egos that make them think they can turn around a "project with potential." It's the lighting in the bottle turnaround with kids like this that keep coaches coming back to it...those combine numbers are like cocaine to football coaches and scouts. I think this McCay kid was more highly rated than Stradford...but, he was in Kansas...#1 player from Kansas. Shawnee Mission is Kansas City area, so he probably faced better competition than the kids out in the wheatfields of Kansas, but...he apparently couldn't crack the two-deep at OU this year, even with all of the injuries they had at WR down the stretch. Lots of dropped balls by OU receivers after Broyles was injured.
  4. Eric Humphrey, DT, former 4-star recruit out of Dallas Parish Episcopal: http://rivals.yahoo.com/oklahoma/football/recruiting/player-Eric-Humphrey-105475 http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/humphrey_eric00.html Torrea Peterson, DT, former 3-star, San Antonio East Central: http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/peterson_torrea00.html http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Torrea-Peterson-86513 Justin McCay, WR, former 4-star, Shawnee (KS) Mission Biege: http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Justin-McCay-68780 http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/mccay_justin00.html We're in need of DT and WR. One of these kids who transfers OU or Texas is bound to end up here...there are so many this winter!
  5. Lots of guys transferring out of those programs. Stoops and Brown losing their mojo? Can we pick off any of these kids?
  6. It started with Dodge's followers being butthurt that Vizza abandoned his sinking ship.
  7. +1 Exactly. I guess the downside of a little success this year is that people get tight and lose focus on what used to make this board fun: (1) Bits (2) Dick jokes (3) Uniform talk (4) Tight end talk (5) High school coach talk (6) Basics of running the football on 4th and 1 talk (7) Importance of having a fullback to running the football on 4th and 1 talk (8) Various inboard fights among FFR, Lifer, and Me (9) Rick Villareal talk (10) Attendance/Stadium talk In short, this board used to be, in comparative terms, like The Hardline of message boards. It's now more like Norm Hitzges.
  8. Hired by Todd Graham at Arizona State. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-arizonast-assistantcoaches Taking Abilene Christian to the playoffs six seasons in a row was quite a feat for Thomsen. That school really was known more for its track program than anything else as far as athletics goes. We should keep Thomsen on our radar. Even though he spells Thompson wrong, he's a good coach.
  9. When you have naked people, you have pornography. I'm not all that crazy about pornography or Mike Leach, so I don't really care. Wazzu got what they got with him...a pass happy coach in a conference known for its basketball...so, they'll be fine. Pornography or no, we need to run and play lights out defense like Alabama and LSU. Leave fancy passing games and naked women to the prognosticators and masturbators. We want to dominate the Sun Belt!
  10. I'd like to have this quitter in Denton with us, but rumor is that he's looking at Texas A&M. Brookshire is apparently close to College Station...or, closer than Norman. It is said Williams has a child or somesuch that he's trying to be closer to. That's as admirable reason to quit OU as any. Good luck at A&M, dude...you're going to need it in the SEC with your CUSA-quality coach. KA-POW!
  11. Throw the ball to the tight end more. Line up a fullback. Take snaps under center. Alabama, LSU...do what they do. Run on offense, play tough defense. Wait a minute...that sounds like what we did during our four year bowl run early last decade. KA-POW!
  12. Another in a long line of Sooner quitters quits. This kid saw the writing on the wall early, though...he quit after his true freshman year: http://rivals.yahoo.com/Alabama/football/recruiting/player-Brandon-Williams-105895 He got a good bit of playing time this year because several of OU backs quit early in the season, then their walk-on who was the starter got injured. Anyway, he played at OU as a true freshman, and will have four years to play three some someone who has love of quitters. Final 2011 stats 8 games (0 starts) - 46 rushes-219 yards - 4.8 yards per carry - 0 touchdowns Rumors out of Norman that former 4-star RB Brennan Clay may transfer as well: http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Brennan-Clay-79089 http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/clay_brennan00.html Clay is a true sophomore, so he'd have three to play two if he also leaves the Sooners.
  13. OU has two new quitters as well, and possibly two more in coming weeks: http://www.crimsonandcreammachine.com/2011/12/13/2634101/ou-football-let-the-attrition-begin-two-transfers-confirmed West Orange Stark's James Haynes: http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/haynes_james00.html http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-James-Haynes-84720 North Mequite's Josh Aladenoye: http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/aladenoye_josh00.html http://rivals.yahoo.com/oklahoma/football/recruiting/player-Josh-Aladenoye-82728 Haynes could still transfer and play two. Aladenoye is screwed...has three years in and has already burned his redshirt. He'll have to go FCS.
  14. Chuck = national. Which of the others - Jub, Followill, or SMU guy - have a national contract? Out of those three, Chuck. Chuck is slick. The other guys are nice local guys for local teams. Get Chuck, he's national...just don't know that we'd pay national. We pay local or nothing, so we get what we have. It's better than some, sure. But, let's not get carried away. I understand many of you listen to sports radio and may have gone to school with the three non-national guys, but that doesn't put them in Chuck's league. Sorry.
  15. I know, the truth is confusing once you face it: Chuck: National, professional Jub: Local, semi-professional Followill, SMU guy: Local, employed because the employers only want to pay Local wage scale.
  16. Death knell. Carry on.
  17. I'm not crazy about Followill or the shrieking SMU guy from The Ticket. Both sound like high school football game radio people to me. If we're going local, try to get Chuck Cooperstein. Chuck is national. The only problem is that Jub may be intimidated in the presence of an authentic, national Hoo-Ha like Chuck.
  18. I think this is the Banowsky whose dad was the president of OU back in the day. Anyway, to hell with Banowsky. To be as close to UNT as the C-USA office is and snub us. Banowsky can bite my lilly white butt. All of 'em can bite my lilly white butt. We need to circle the wagons and starting knockin' their asses down in every sports we play 'em in! SMU and Houston have already proven that the C-USA is just a whale fart of a conference by leaving it behind to go play football damn near in Nova Scotia! I wish them all a big bag of sports nothing!
  19. Poor old, little bitty Tulsa...3,000 undergrads, give or take...not many alumni...and, there they go chug, chug, chugging along like the Little Engine That Could. Having gone to school at UNT and TU, I can honestly say that the difference between the two is that TU wants to play, and UNT doesn't. TU faculty attends games, wears TU shirts and stuff on Fridays...and on days when the basketball team is battling in conference tournaments or national tournaments, you walk by offices and hear professors listening to the game on the radio. I wish UNT had a faculty and students that give a damn, but it really is different. TU is a small, private school without a lot of crap majors. So, the folks who apply there really do want to go there. It is too expensive to have many commuter students. UNT is sort of fighting that which is used to be - not the first choice of many of its students, and an inexpensive way for commuter to finish degrees begun at junior colleges. UNT is the only Texas school I applied to. I could give a rat's fat ass about Texas or Texas A&M. I'd been to dusty ass Lubbock and knew I didn't want to be there. I liked beer and women. Denton appeared to have enough to that for me. I didn't have to go to some other exotic locale like Huntsville or Nacogdoches to find playful women and beer barns. And, I'd grown up in Dallas, so I didn't want to go to school smack in the middle of another city like Austin or Houston. The degree programs at North Texas were the same, more or less, than every other school in Texas, so I figured, "What the hell? This place is close, and I can get drunk and laid on approximately the same night, and come out of it with a degree." Even though later in life I found Jesus again, I'll always cherish my days at UNT...even if the faculty and students don't like athletics much. We'll get there. I hope we get there with Tulsa as well. I love 'em both. Plenty of beer and women in both. College.
  20. Thanks for the props.
  21. Dear Matt, If you're a boy and she's a girl, you might be able to seduce her and then convince her later, over pillow talk, to give UNT athletics a chance. Sometimes, women just need to be tickled in the right areas to understand the importance of it all. If she's not hot enough to seduce, why do you want her at the games anyway? Am I 21st Century enough in my thinking? Love, The Fake Lonnie Finch
  22. Still can't believe UNM forced Rocky Long out. He obviously went to a school with more clout in climbing up the ladder.
  23. Well, although I made my season prediction the first week of June, I was still wrong. Happy we broke even in the Belt and had a winning record at home. But, I'm as optimistic now for 2012 as I was in June for 2011 despite the 5-7 finish.
  24. Trice was contributing at OU from game one of his freshman year on special teams. That's a lot of other 4- and 5-star recruits he elbowed past over one summer to gain Bob Stoops' attention. Posted video of him blocking a punt and causing a fumble on a kickoff earlier in the year. He played safety at OU on defense. He is unlike Tyler Stradford in that he was on the field contributing at OU for two seasons in a meaningful way. Barring injury, he will be a great player at UNT, a team first guy who goes 110% every play. I like that McCarney has ties to the old coaching network. When kids ask for releases, I'm sure it helps us that there is a past relationship between McCarney and the Bob Stoopses and Bobby Petrinos of the world. We have something special here. The new stadium. Damn nearing breaking even with a new OL and DL. These coaches are getting players who are gamers. Freddie Warner...the guy was all over the place before his injury. Looking for to seeing Marcus Trice, Cam Feldt, and many other contribute to many years of success for us.
  25. KA-POW! A post with the truth. OSU caught Texas and OU with injuries to its offensive stars. Lightning in a bottle, and they took advantage of it. They should be happy to catch OU and Texas in bad sorts, and count their lucky stars. It's laughable to think OSU is in the same competitive atmosphere as LSU and Bama. Bama and LSU are the top two teams in the country, and it isn't even close or debatable. Oklahoma State couldn't even beat a 6-6 Iowa State squad. LSU? Get real. Thank goodness we don't have to watch LSU blow them out. LSU/Bama ensures a good, close match-up.
