Am I wrong, or are these workouts more intense than they were under Dodge and Dickey? There's lots of scuffling and pulling ropes and whatnot. Physical stuff.

Thanks, basketball guys, for the insight. I just don't know as much about the other basketball tournaments. I think in football, sometimes a school barely breaks even on a minor bowl game. Just wasn't sure what the deal was in these basketball tournaments. For my part, I guess I'd like to see another 20-win season. Selfish? Yes. Wish it had been done during the season and conference tournament. But, I'd say getting 18 wins out of this crew after the two suspensions was a pretty good year.

"It's not the face you f*ck, it's the f*ck you face." - One of TFLF's roommates, Denton, TX, 1992 I don't even think this guy was a philosophy major. As I recall, when not making excuses for bedding the occasional ugly coed, he was majoring in Hotel/Restaurant Something Or Other Degree Plan.

Former UNT coach Chuck Peterson to Orange Lutheran
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It will end when we go with UNT on the helmets. Sorry, Rick V and others...but, when people say North Texas, they are 2/3rds of the way to going ahead and saying North Texas State. Don't give them the opportunity. Stick UNT everywhere. And, I mean everywhere, baby! Helmets, pants, jerseys, wristbands, towels, water bottles, onion cutters...everything! -
That's the point. Legal alcohol is already a major problem in auto accidents. Illegal marijuana is also a big problem in auto accidents. Legalizing it would make the problem even worse. So, there's no real point in it. Also, there's the ridiculous notion that the black market would disappear. There would be an age limit on it, like alcohol. Unlike alcohol, it doesn't have to be bottled or canned to get quality product. It will still be selling on the streets even if it's legalized. Of course, we're talking about a huge pipe dream anyway given that it will never be legal Federally. And, as we continue to see with states trying to invent their own immigration laws, Federal judges apply Federal laws to quash what the State misconstrue as areas where they may freely legislate. Until the Feds changed the schedule status of marijuana, it doesn't matter what states do...as "decriminalized" and "medical marijuana" states, and the potheads therein, have discovered: the states through their courts in applying Federal law to cases and the potheads as they are led away in handcuffs by Federal agents. Ignore NORML because they are baked. Federal law is where the ballgame is. Although, believe me, I understand NORML rakes in plenty of dopehead cash in telling people they'll make it all better at the state level. NORML rakes it in off of "joining" and 501 ©(3) status. They're like the NRA in that regard. If you have constructive purpose, you can always go 501©(3) and make money by scaring people and making them empty promises. Most people are too lazy (or, in NORML's case, stoned) to understand they can't do 99.9% of what they say they can anyway.

...and paying to see this stuff. Remember, these are high dollar tickets at BCS AQ programs. OU 9/1 @UTEP 9/8 FLORIDA A&M 9/15 open/bye 9/22 KANSAS STATE 9/29 open/bye The Sooners will begin October having played one home game versus an AQ school. Crazy Clemson 9/1 Auburn - in Atlanta 9/8 BALL STATE 9/15 FURMAN 9/22 @ Florida State 9/29 @ Boston College Tiger fans will see only Ball State and Furman at home in September Florida State 9/1 - MURRAY STATE 9/8 - SAVANNAH STATE Seriously! Two FCS school to start the season. And, we're upset at having Texas State? Whew! 9/15 - WAKE FOREST 9/22 - CLEMSON 9/29 - @ South Florida Second half of the month is much better...but, doesn't it make up for a crappy beginning? Shelling out season ticket money at a big school for two FCS schools. Miami, FL 9/1 - @ Boston College 9/8 - @ Kansas State 9/15 - BETHUNE-COOKMAN 9/22 - @ Georgia Tech 9/29 - NORTH CAROLINA STATE Hurricane fans wait until the last week of September to see a quality game at home. North Carolina State 8/31 - Tennessee @ Atlanta 9/8 - @ Connecticut 9/15 - SOUTH ALABAMA 9/22 - THE CITADEL 9/29 - @ Miami, FL Awful September for Wolfpack season ticket holders. And, it doesn't end there for them: 10/06 - FLORIDA STATE (finally a decent home game) 10/13 - Open/Bye 10/20 - @ Maryland 10/27 - @ North Carolina That's right TWO FULL MONTHS, September and October, and only one real game at home! No wonder they love basketball more at this school! That's all I have time for now. But, you get the drift. We may feel like we are paying for crap. But, imagine paying even bigger bucks at BCS AQs and having those schedules be the return on your investment in entertainment.

2012 Mean Green Football Schedule
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to MeanGreenWithEnvy's topic in Mean Green Football
http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/sun-belt/north-texas-mean-green.php Sorry, there's the site I'm getting information from. Once you start clicking around you see the problem. And, remember, SEC and Big 12 schools, because of realignment, are going to have three OOC games in the foreseeable future instead of four like they used to have. That factors into the difficulty of moving and switching as well. To me, we've got many winnable game on the schedule this year. We do have outside shots against Houston and Kansas State. Probably not a prayer versus LSU. This is a year where we should be happy that we have pretty favorable schedule in the continued development of the team under McCarney and Canales. I'm actually pretty excited about the schedule. Sorry, again, but I'm just focused on winning more right now than trying to find a miraculous "cure" to the schedule. -
2012 Mean Green Football Schedule
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to MeanGreenWithEnvy's topic in Mean Green Football
We had the best of all worlds last year with Houston and Big Ten's Indiana visiting. This year, we seem a little short; but, there's sometimes little you can do: (1) Everyone schedules games years in advance (2) To ask out of a game, you have to: (a) pay cash, or ( find another opponent for the school you are bailing on. So, it's not as easy as just picking up the phone and saying, "Syracuse, do this for us." In the best of all worlds, when it was realized OU and Syracuse had problems filling spaces, we should have gone to LSU and K-State and asked to push games to other years, or let us out if we can negotiate OU or Syracuse to take our game against you. Now, this is far-fetched because you are asking OU and LSU to go on the road, and they are big boys who will get six or seven home game no matter what. What we now know is that OU will go to UTEP. Will open on the road for the first time since 1997...at an non-AQ conference, non-traditional power school. Look at LSU's first four games...all at home: Sept 1 - North Texas Sept 8 - Washington Sept 15 - Idaho Sept 29 - Towson State Maybe we could have brokered a three way deal among us, LSU,and Syracuse with Syracuse coming here this year, and us going to LSU in 2014? Sorry we've already got @ Texas, SMU, @ Tulsa, @ Indiana in 2014. See what I mean? Everyone is loaded up for years. One single move has many moving parts. Syracuse is in such flux that they have a ton of space in 2014 and beyond. Kansas State has alot of space left in 2013 and beyond. So, could we have asked Kansas State to let us go this year and go there in 2013 instead, then ask Syracuse to come here? Again, problems. We a full until about 2019... and filled with games we've wanted: (1) SMU from 2014-2018 (2) Tulsa home and home, 2014 and 2015 (3) Iowa in 2015 and 2017 (4) Army series from 2016-2018 (5) SEC visits to Georgia (2013), Florida (2016), Arkansas (2018), and Tennessee (year unknown) It's easy to say this or that should have been done. But, it takes a lot of work...and, sometimes, money as well, to change a schedule. -
Yeah. I'm sure that is what people think to themselves when they are, you know, burying their kids who have been killed by marijuana users. Because, as we all know, the world is simply academic; there are no real world consequences. I'm sure the State of California's position with this gal will be, "No biggie. Sober people put babies in trash bags and leave them at gas stations all the time. It's just a coincidence that the baby was born with marijuana in her system and her mom is a burner." The shackling her and charging her with stuff is just a show. California and other states really love pothead moms and dads. They make great parents. They'll probably give this gal and award when it's all said and done, for good parenting.

(1) I'd say Scalia concurring with Raich...nevermind. (2) The argument is because pot is a factor in killing, there is no need to dump it onto what is already a problem with alcohol. (3) That's the NORML line, for sure. But, taking the word of people who have been baking their brain cells for decades as truth is crazy. Let the drug dealers kill each other. Mexico's law enforcement problem was a problem long before the drug wars as well. (4) You don't have the right to use pot. Ask anyone who has been arrested in the last 24 hours. People are still arrested in "decriminalized" State. That's already been documented in cases that reached the California and Massachusetts Supreme Courts. Smoke up; but, don't be surprised if the cops show up and haul you away. It's not legal. And, it's not going to be legal.

A 16-year old and 17-year old die in a single car accident. All three of the occupants - the driver and two passengers - had been smoking dope before the accident. You have to wonder, though, whether or not this story is real because dope smokers say marijuana is safer than alcohol. People at NORML say it as well. They spend millions of dollars to say, so this story must have another wrinkle to it. Anyone who spends millions of dollars to say marijuana is safe no matter what medical and scientific studies say must be right, right?: http://www.wlky.com/r/30482613/detail.html

Celebrating? I'm pointing out that Federal law trumps State law...yes, even in States of supposed "decriminalization." We have some here who think "medical" marijuana laws somehow allow any use, possession, or distribution in certain States to trump Federal law. It doesn't. And, yes, I am 164% for Federal drug laws trumping any State drug law where marijuana is concerned. Go ask the old Farmers Branch mayor about how the Feds view States pretending that Federal law doesn't apply to them. It's a slam dunk for Federal jurists. And, again, even the Ninth Circuit and Cali Supreme Court have acknowledged as much in marijuana cases. It's not legal. It's not going to be legal. Don't be misled by the burners over at NORML. Just because they've burned too many brain cells to understand the application of Federal laws on a State level doesn't mean you should be misled as well. Federal law allows for the arrest of marijuana users, sellers, and manufacturers even in California. (I'm also for gun laws being enforced. Anything dangerous, like guns and marijuana, needs by default to be given as little benefit of the doubt legally as possible.)

Here's another great story. A dope-smoker kills his passenger in an auto accident. I know...crazy because dope is safer than marijuana, right? http://centralwisconsinhub.wausaudailyherald.com/article/20120228/WDH0101/202280498/Man-faces-homicide-charge-after-crash?odyssey=tab|mostpopular|text|FRONTPAGE

Federal charges... http://www.wgrz.com/news/article/157895/37/Mother-of-Olympic-Athlete-In-Court-on-Drug-Charges In Cali, drugged driving fatalities have increased since 2006... http://www.marketwatch.com/story/drug-use-rises-in-california-fatal-crashes-2012-02-28 In Cali, where "medical use" is legal, raids still occurring...with help of Cali officials as well... http://www.examiner.com/solano-county-buzz-in-san-francisco/downtown-vallejo-pot-dispensary-shut-down-owner-arrested But marijuana cultivation and possession remained illegal under federal law, and U.S. authorities frequently threatened to crack down on California dispensaries, which operated openly. In fact, the Greenwell Cooperative at 616 Marin St. was only a half-block off downtown Vallejo's main street. Nearly 800 marijuana plants were seized from two locations, Lt. Ken Weaver of the Vallejo Police Department told the newspaper. Shotwell was charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, selling marijuana and operating a location that supplies marijuana, Weaver said. Agents of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, California's State Board of Equalization and Franchise Tax Board, Solano County narcotics task force and Vallejo police took part in the raid, the newspaper said. How could that be? I mean, medical marijuana is legal in Cali, right? Uh-huh. Right. Keep flying, potbirds. That Federal window is still standing...even in Cali. Here a nice family, some in Cali, arrested on Federal drug charges...yeah, marijuana. Even though it's been "decriminalized" there...six properties seized by the Feds in the "decriminalized" weed State of Cali... http://newssun.suntimes.com/news/10662240-418/ten-face-federal-drug-charges.html How can that be? I mean, medical marijuana is legal in Cali, right? Uh-huh. Right. Keep flying, potbirds. That Federal and State windows are still standing...even in Cali. In "decriminalized" Massachusetts, Supreme Court says you can still face jail time...looks like it's in the cops hands to decide what your intended use was..."decriminalize" by voters...funny stuff... http://dailyfreepress.com/2012/02/15/legislation-ups-consequences-for-pot-possession-under-ounce/ How can this be? I mean, the voters of Massachusetts approved decriminalization! Uh-huh. Right. They did. Keep flying, potbirds. The Federal and State windows are still standing...even in politically dark blue Massachusetts. The law is the law. It's not legal. It's not going to be legal. Even in place where it's supposedly "decriminalized" and approved for "medical" use, people are still arrested for it daily. Daily. Somewhere in Cali, some burner is being arrested even now for it. And, he or she is probably mumbling incoherently about their right to use it. Careful what you think you know about drug law...even in Cali...or Mass...or, any of those "decriminalized" States. Don't let the dopes at NORML lead you astray. Decriminalized? Yeah, okay.
-
It doesn't matter. Federal law still applies, so it is not "decriminalized." In every one of those states, people are still arrested on Federal drug charges in connection to marijuana. Even the Ninth Circuit has written that medical marijuana in any given State does not mean growing, selling, or use of it, even for that purpose, gives anyone due process rights Federally. Federally, those dreams went up in smoke in Gonzalez v. Raich.
-
It doesn't matter whether a state law passes. If there is already a Federal law in place, the Federal law will supersede it...hence, the immigration law examples. The 10th Amendment only applies in areas of the law where the Federal government hasn't already promulgated laws. Until Federal law changes, there will be no change. This has already been to courts. Even in California, employers can fire employees for using weed even if they have a "medical marijuana" permission. Why? Because Federal law trumps State law. Not even California was stupid enough to tangle there. Their Supreme Court, citing Federal law, of course, said employers could fire pot-using employees. NORML and all other drug-addled organizations can spin their wheels and waste as much money as the anti-immigration folk. The legal fact of the matter is that marijuana is illegal. Drug people...gun people...immigration people...it's fun to watch them all chasing their tails politically. They waste a ton of time and money. But, the First Amendment allows wackos of all stripe to solicit money and waste the time of whatever sheep can be fleeced. There are many rich people at NORML and NRA spreading their wayward gospels. Pathetic.

Federal say-so, from June 21, 2011...during the Obama administration: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2011/07/08/2011-16994/denial-of-petition-to-initiate-proceedings-to-reschedule-marijuana#h-8 Ka-pow! The Feds once again deny a petition to even initiate proceedings to reschedule marijuana. What was my earlier post? Keep flying into that Federal window, potbirds! See, what happens is, people who don't waste time smoking grass go into medical and scientific research fields, and...you know...make these reports that the government can actually use to form coherent national policy. I know,I know. It's far less taxing to stand around with signs and protest. It's even far less taxing to get on the internet and whine. Far less taxing even than that is just sitting around getting stoned. But, having an opinion, voicing it, and getting stoned are not the equivalent of medical and scientific research. Sorry. For all the faults of Federal government, at least they are still trusting in sober medical and scientific analysis. Even, yes, even during the Obama administration. Gee, I wonder if a Romney or Santorum administration would be more weed friendly? Bwaahahahahaahahahaha!
-
Hmmm. I wasn't aware that Gallup polls superseded scientific evidence and Congress. Scientific evidence is still that marijuana slows reaction time and impairs judgement. And, marijuana is still not legal. California voters, as far left as you can go, have rejected full legalization. And, the Barack Obama Justice Department - again, with its leftward tilt - opposes full legalization. Over the long haul, the potheads are going to run into the same problem Federally that the anti-immigration crowd always runs into - Federal laws are the final authority on any given matter. There are already Federal laws covering marijuana. And, like the wacky localities and states who sometimes make their own immigration rules, the weed-legalization crowd will run into those Federal laws in court, and lose. Hello, Farmers Branch. Yes, you are part of the United States...and, it's laws apply to you. The screech of the potheads is only mildly amusing these days. Like the anti-immigrants, it's like watching a bird repeatedly fly into a window - slightly funny a first, but quickly a bore. Fly into that Federal window potbirds. It hasn't stopped the anti-immigrant crowd. So, the song remains the same: pothead drivers continue to kill, maim, and paralyze along with their miscreant cousins the drunk drivers. And, it is because weed slow reflexes and impairs judgement. And, such facts move the adults who run the country to keep pot illegal...in spite of polls and weed-induced dreams.
-
So, we're still where we began: Marijuana use is as dangerous as alcohol use. So, there's no reason to compound the ills of legal alcohol with the ills of legal marijuana. Still waiting for the study that shows marijuana does not slow reaction time and impair judgement. Yes, I know that study will never be published because it goes against fact. Marijuana does slow reaction time and impair judgement. Therefore, and thankfully, it is illegal. The great thing about young people is they grow up. The pro-legalize crowd is always crowing about the number of young people who support it, so it's just around the corner. But, few people keep their youthful views once they grow up and face facts. Then, you're stuck with what you have of the pro-legalization crowd: potheads. Strident, disorganized potheads who have no way of refuting proof of the scientific and social harm of their weed. Call me crazy, but I think it's the weed use that makes them delusional enough to believe marijuana will be legalized in America.
