We've got one victory this season...and, it's over an FCS team. We are going to be in the C-USA next season. And, allegedly, the competition will be stiffer. I love Dan McCarney, but...we really are going to be needing some miracle/magical-type endings. Maybe like an Al Gore happy ending massage. I just don't see it. I'll enjoy seeing the likes of Southern Miss and Tulsa in the stadium for the next few year, but I gotta wonder about things. Recruiting has got to pick up in a major whey.

Denfense was good but not great
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to VideoEagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Look...Troy is not a good football team. They are on a two game losing streak and coming to our house on the road. We, supposedly, had some momentum from a win and a strong showing at Kansas State. I predicted a 5-7 record for this team. Then, got a little excited and thought 6-6 could be reached. But, the reality of this defense is that 5-7 would be a good season with 4-8 most likely...especially if the two "experienced" parts of the squad, offense and special teams, are going to implode from game to game. I'll be really pleased with 5-7, fine with 4-8...very, very surprised with 6-6. -
Will someone please tell the ESPN...

Again and again and again and again.... You go by "North Texas" and you're 2/3rds of the way to North Texas State. We became University of North Texas 25 years ago. Grow up, bite the bullet and put UNT on helmets. We are UNT. I get tons of mail from UNT. We are UNT. Put it on the helmets. Put it on everything athletic. Git rid of "North Texas." Just get rid out it once and for all. Grow up and admit that we are - have been for two and a half decades - UNT. -

We've played a ton a body bag games to open seasons. That is changing...thankfully. -
Yes. Also, forget about wide receiver. It's the defensive line that holds the key to our success or failure this season. Got to stop the run.

What EXACTLY is Vito's Agenda?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
I like and support Brett Vito. What's the point in nitpicking journalists anyway? The man's doing his job and whatnot. He's not supposed to be a cheerleader. He's just supposed to report the news on UNT sporting events, and write editorial/human interest type stories from time to time as well. He does a good job, calling coaches and players and other newspapers and whatnot. I don't know what the hell else people expect? -
Many folk don't realize that you are technically "under arrest" when you are pulled over. You don't have the option to not cooperate. Personally, I think the majority of police forces are doing the right thing. They will always be the "bad guy" in these situations because they've got the badge, gun, baton, and cuffs. But, the reality is, they've got a dangerous job. And, they don't know who hell is good and bad when they walk up on a car. There's really no reason not to cooperate. So, the old lady was out of line here. Just let the officer do his job, go on your way, and let him go on his way.

When I look at this map, I get sad and start to cry. And, as I wipe away tears and start doing some math, I see that a good split would be: EAST Old Dominion East Carolina UNC-Charlotte Marshall Florida International UAB Tulane Southern Mississippi WEST UTEP UTSA UNT Rice Lousiana Tech Tulsa New Mexico State And, this is why I weep. Why are we leaving out New Mexico State? We take on UNC-Charlotte and Old Dominion...and really, UTSA...all start-ups of sorts. And, there on the edge of our UTEP, just a 20 or so minute drive away, is NMSU. Is it too much to ask to throw the Aggies a lifeline? Also...yes...I already know they can put Tulane in with us. It just makes more geographic sense to me to have Tulane and Southerm Miss in a division and UTEP and NMSU in a division. I hate the world. It's cruel and cold and filled with so many uncooked sausages.

The mask dude needs to lay off the cheeseburgers for about nine months or so.

Do not underestimate Todd Berry's recruiting ties in Texas. He's an Oklahoma boy (well...man, now) who played at Tulsa and coached there and at Oklahoma State. He's recruited pretty much the nation as Army's head coach as well. So, my guess is ULM will be fine as long as Todd Berry is the head coach.

Comparing Kentucky to Texas? - Vito
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to NorthTexan95's topic in Mean Green Football
Kentucky football has always been pretty bad to mediocre. So, it would be like us beating Baylor...which we already did in 2003. I don't think the college football public really is shocked by Western Kentucky beating Kentucky. And, honestly, I don't think it was all that shocked by Texas State beating Houston. I think people probably thought, "Yeah, well...Phi Slama Jama just didn't take N.C. State seriously enough." -
Coach Mac Comments after K-State
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's not that i don't think the secondary will improve. I'm more concerned that some Sun Belt schools will be stronger than I had anticipated at the beginning of the year - particularly ULM and Western Kentucky. Louisiana and Arkansas State were already going to be tough games. -
I don't have time to read all of the posts because I have to spend some time at work working on work-related work. But, I'll take a few seconds to make a few points here about the near and mid east, so that you'll have to proper perspective. First of all, even though we're not Muslims, I don't understand why idiots over here feel the need to poke and prod at Muslims with these stupid films about Muhammed/Mohammed/Muhamed, etc. There really is not point to them. We already know there are Muslim extremists; this isn't news. There is no point in continually pointing out the weirdness of "The Prophet" and his modern day followers. Just leave it alone already. Quit kicking the ant pile. So to speak. Soda speak? So to speak. It's like when i'm driving in the car and my kids start fighting in the backseat over nothing. Just shut up already or I'll have to pull over and spank both of you. In spite of the First Amendment, can't we find a legal way to spank this idiot "film maker"? This is the problem with decades and decades of the First Amendment being used to protect "artists" who produce nothing but putrid, inflamatory crap. Whether it's porn or gore or this kind of abject political garbage, we'll have the problems pop up from time to time because we're too stupid and stubborn to stop it.

Coach Mac Comments after K-State
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
This is why I love McCarney. While everyone is patting themselves on the back for "staying close" and "competing," he goes ahead and gets to the heart of the matter. Klein completed 75% of his passes, two for TDs; ran for 85 and another TD; and, he wasn't sacked. K-State ran for 143 of 28 attempts. We are happy about our rushing against them, but gained basically the same amount of yardage -145 - but on 40 attempts. Defensive line play is a problem. Fortunately, the problems there will be less noticable against Sun Belt opponents (?). -

Texas A&M at SMU not sold out?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
True. Trading OU and Texas for LSU and Bama isn't a step down. The move was about money and prestige. They will be getting more of both in the SEC. -
Texas A&M at SMU not sold out?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
Because I do not highly regard either the Pac-12 and MWC, I'm highly reluctant to put Kelly and Peterson in the same category as Spurrier. Spurrier didn't win his national title until he hired a legitimate defensive coordinator. Sumlin's defensive coordinator set-up: Mark Snyder - One year as DC at Youngstown State (1996), One year at Ohio State (2004), and two years at South Florida (2010 and 2011), and Marcel Yates One year as "Defensive Pass Game Coordinator" at Boise State (2011). Sorry, neither one of those - singley or in tandem - belongs on an SEC coaching staff at coordinator level. If Sumlin survives two years, it will be because he's fired his co-Defensive Coordinators and has hired a bona fide DC. However, if I were Sumlin, I'd be saving as much of my Briefly-Head-Coach-At-A-Major-College money as I could. I suggest annuities. -
Kansas State Prediction
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
It wouldn't be a shock if K-State held the ball for 35 to 40 minutes if we cannot stop the run. LSU ran on us pretty much at will. Again, we got jacked up about scoring two touchdowns against LSU, but...being realistic mean looking at reality: Les Miles was kind enough not to run up the score on us. Hopefully, Bill Snyder gives former Iowa coaching mate Dan McCarney the same courtesy. Snyder vs. McCarney in the old Big 12 days: 1995: Kansas State 49, Iowa State 7 1996: Kansas State 35, Iowa State 20 1997: Kansas State 28, Iowa State 3 1998: Kansas State 52, Iowa State 7 1999: Kansas State 35, Iowa State 28 2000: Kansas State 56, Iowa State 10 2001: Kansas State 42, Iowa State 3 2002: Kansas State 58, Iowa State 7 2003: Kansas State 45, Iowa State 0 2004: Iowa State 37, Kansas State 23 2005: Iowa State 45, Kansas State 17 -
Texas A&M at SMU not sold out?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
http://www.stubhub.com/smu-football-tickets/smu-vs-texas-am-9-15-2012-4048586/ If they're on StubHub, they're already sold. You can still get into this one for $40...in bleachers they've set up in an end zone. The only thing I bash the Aggies about is firing R.C. Slocum, then replacing him with a succession of Fool's Gold/"Offensive Genius" coaches - Franchione, Sherman, and the current fraud, Sumlin. They'll take,at most, two years worth of ass poundings in the SEC before they dump Sumlin and finally hire a defensive (read, SEC) minded coach again. It took Florida, a middle of the road SEC team these days, only a few halftime adjustments to figure out Sumlin's C-USA Spread garbage.
