All Tulsa, SMU, etc have done is reconstituted the C-USA into a new conference minus a couple of minor players. All the C-USA is now is former Sun Belt schools, brand new football programs, and a couple of C-USA schools that the old C-USA schools didn't want to be in conference with anymore.

Yes. But...how was Zimmerman to know what he was doing? Given the recent crimes in the neighborhood, what is he supposed to think about strange kids in the neighborhood? I don't know everyone on our subdivision, but have run kids off the local elementary school property twice, approached a truck rolling slowly then parking in the alley between my house and my neighbor's house, and confronted a guy with a camera in front of my house. The first incident was two teenagers egging the elementary schools' electronic sign out front. We were returning home from Braums; it was in the afternoon. I stopped our truck in the middle of the road, approached the stunned kids, and took the eggs away from them. I asked them who the hell they thought would pay for the sign if the damaged it. Neither knew what to say, they were just standing there frozen. When they didn't answer, I told them to get the hell back home before I called the police. The split as fast as they could in opposite directions, so I suppose each went to his own house. Another time, I was out on my nightly jog and saw two more teenagers loitering near the electronic sign. I stopped running, took off my headphones, and asked the why they were standing on the street corner this late at night on a school night. One said, "Nothing." I said "good," and get the hell home before I call the police. They also scattered. Last week, a truck I'd never seen was creeping slowly down our alley and stopped between our house and the neighbors. The driver was fiddling with something in his lap. It was getting near sunset, and I was in the side yard watering some plants. I dropped the hose and began walking towards the truck. The guy looked up and took off. He turned the corner, which led to the front of our house, I walked out to the sidewalk and took his license plate number as he drove away. A couple of years ago, I was in the process of removing a tree stump from I tree I had cut down when a guy walked by with his dog. I didn't think anything of it because adults walk and jog in our neighborhood pretty frequently. Anyway, a few minutes later, I see this guy again, sans dog, but with a camera in his hand. So, I picked up the ax I'd used to cut down the tree and met him there on the sidewalk. I asked him what he thought he was going to take a picture of. He said, "Nothing" (maybe he was the loitering "nothing" kid's dad?) and began to walk away. I stayed on the sidewalk, ax in hand, until he disappeared onto the next block over. We've had vandalism in our neighborhood, like any other. Teenagers trashing the pool. Egged houses and cars. Dead rabbits and cats left on doorsteps. A middle school was built a couple of years ago about a half mile from us. During the time is was built, there were several thefts from open garages as well as an attempted break in. Fortunately, there was someone at home during the attempted break in and the polce were called. Currently, there is street construction at one of the subdivision entrances. I've got a stay at home wife and two kids aged seven and younger. My inclination toward strangers and loiterers in the neighborhood is not to be friendly. I'm not particularly worried about whether people think I'm nice or not. I've pay the mortgage and taxes on a house here and a yong family inside or near it. To some degree, we know Zimmerman felt the same way about various bits of vandalism and crime in his neighborhood. THe only difference between me and a guy like Zimmerman is that I don't own a gun. I'm perfectly content to confront strangers and loiterers directlly. The ax I had the one time was just there because I'd cut down a tree and was still cutting through the roots on the stump to remove it. And, as far as I know, we don't have a neighborhood watch. The point is, everyone wants to second quess Martin and ZImmerman. They both could have played their roles differently. But, I can see the mindset of a guy wanting to protect his neighborhood based on past events. The death was a tragedy. Like I said before, both had chips on their shoulders had caused the situation to exscalate. (By the way, I've cut down all the trees and bushes I wanted to remove...so, you are free to approach me while I'm watering the new landscaping and whatnot. The ax is stashed safely away in the garage. Take a picture if you like!)

Watching Todd Berry coach of ULM
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
The most impressive thing about that win was this - ULM came back to win it. They were down 21-7 at half. And, with just under 10 minutes, the Razorbacks stretched out to a 28-7 lead. I'm sure, at that point, everyone in the stadium and on the Arkansas sideline thought they were on their way to a 50-something to 7 route. That's when ULM, on the road, refused to lay down and die, then took matters into their own hands. That's what I'd like for us to do someday - forget being behind on the road of a bigger dog, and just cut loose, take advantage of their taking us for granted. The thing that is always on the underdogs' side in these early season battles is that the bigger school usually has a pretty vanilla offensive and defensive schemes for the lesser schools so as to not tip their hand on game film for future "more important" battles. If you can punch them back in the mouth and keep going, you can win on the road. ULM has done it to Alabama and Arkansas. Arkansas State did it to Texas A&M. Pre-Big 12 TCU did it to OU. I'd love to see the day where UNT's team and coaches have the mindset to weather the storm on the road in a big name school's stadium, and rally to beat them! That would be really exciting!- 3 replies

Watching Todd Berry coach of ULM
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
He is good. Anyone at Army is in a tough situation because your recruiting a limited to kids who can actually qualify academically. Monroe isn't the easiest place to recruit to; but, he's beating us to kids in the DFW and picking up some good scraps from his home state, Oklahoma. He had some pretty good mentors along with way with John Cooper and Johnny Majors. Wouldn't be shocked to see a C-USA school pick him up if he puts together another season or two of winning football in Monroe. I think the guy at Tulane is iin over his head. Ditto Southern Miss. I think Berry would be a target of either of those. (North Texas? ... if things don't go well in 2013 and 2014?)- 3 replies

It's a matter of physical ability. In the Mean Green Bowl this year, I scored the first touchdown when my peer group of over 40s was covering me. After that, they stuck that 15 year old kid on me and I didn't get another catch all day. Trayvon Martin at 6'1" and svelte probably got up on the pudgy Zimmerman pretty quickly. And, certainly, being taller, Trayvon had a longer reach than Zimmerman. The whole thing is a tragedy. I think Zimmerman was doing what he thought was right by protecting his neighborhood on a regular basis. I think Martin was just out to get some snacks to even up his buzz, which isn't out of the norm either. I think both had chips on their respective shoulders about the world as they perceived it. If we believe the friend girl testimony, Martin was suspicious of "crackers." Zimmerman, we know, was suspicious of unfamilar kids in the neighborhood based on past crimes in the neighborhood, Unfortunately, these two humans with chips on their shoulder about one thing or another had a tense meeting. I think Martin probably did get up on Zimmerman and start whaling on him. And, at that point, I think Zimmerman panicked and shot Martin. I think both were amped up by emotions fed by the chips on the shoulder. It's well documented that I'm not a fan of some of the contributing factors. I'm not for marijuana legalization, and I'm not for everyone being able to carry around firearms. And, I'm never a fan or race-baiting media and politicians.

Let's say ZImmerman hadn't killed Martin. They had their little slap and tickle and the law shows up. By some stretch of the legal imagination, prosecutors attempt to slap an aggravated stalking charge on Zimmerman. Based on the events of one night in a first time meeting, it would be impossible to convict Zimmerman of agggravated stalking. Aggravated stalking laws were enhanced over the last decade to cover repeated stalking over a period of time. Many original stalking laws were misdemeanors. Aggravated stalking was a way to upgrade charges against those who really intended to prey upon a certain victims. That is a universe different than two strangers struggling for the first time. Aggravated stalking would have been more difficult to stick than even the ridiculous second degree murder charge the prosecutors attempted. You have to face reality. They couldn't even get the manslaughter charge that they threw in at the last minute to stick. So many people want this to be more than what is it - an unfortunate tragedy. And, the only reason they want it to be that way is that Trayvon Martin was black and George Zimmerman is not. Lost, as always, in all of this is the same type of outrage for black on black and black on white crime. People only get all up in arms if a non-black kills a black. Why? Why is it no big deal when a black kills another black? Why does it cause no waves when a black kills a white or other non-black...like a "half-Hispanic" ZImmerman? Every murder should be a big deal. But, until Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and their ilk start showing up at funerals and trials of non-black victims of black murderers crying racism, then their charges of racism here and elsewhere are hollow to me. If non-blacks killing blacks is reason to scream racism, then the reverse should also be true,

...until you read about what it is and realize it doesn't apply here: Aggravated stalking: willful, malicious and repeated following or harassing another with credible threats with the intent to place person in reasonable fear of death or bodily injury; or willfully, maliciously, repeatedly follows or harasses minor under 16; or after injunction for protection or any court-imposed prohibition of conduct, knowingly, willfully, maliciously and repeatedly follows or harasses another person.

SMU will not win over 5.5 games this season
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Look, who cares? Congrats to TCU for getting into the Big 12 and raising money to upgrade Amon Carter along the way. But, TCU is what it is against real football schools - TCU. Hence, the losing record in the BIg 12 and going 3-6 over the final three months of the 2012 season. Once they were done with Grambling, Kansas, Virginia, and SMU, the chickens came home to roost. TCU will forever be a 4- to 7- win school in the Big 12, with a majority of those wins coming OOC agains the likes of Gramblings, VIrginias, and SMUs. 2013 Frogs: 2013 TCU Football Schedule Aug. 31 - vs. LSU - Certain Loss, 0-1 Sept. 7 - Southeastern Louisiana, Certain Win, 1-1 Sept. 14 - at Texas Tech, Flip a coin, 2-1 or 1-2 Sept. 28 - SMU, Certain Win, 3-1 or 2-2 Oct. 5 - at Oklahoma, Certain Loss, 3-2 or 2-3 Oct. 12 - Kansas, Certain Win, 4-2 or 3-3 Oct. 19 - at Oklahoma State, Certain Loss, 4-3 or 3-4 Oct. 26 - Texas, Probable Loss, 4-4 or 3-5 Nov. 2 - West Virginia, Flip a coin, 5-4 or 3-6 Nov. 9 - at Iowa State, Flip a coin, 6-4 or 3-7 Nov. 16 - at Kansas State, Certain Loss, 6-5 or 3-8 Nov. 30 - Baylor, Flip a coin, 7-5 or 3-9 There are four flip a coin games in there. I'll bet they split them 2-2 and finish the season at 5-7. Wow. The only real mystery is will Texas suck enough to lose to TCU again. Odds are the Longhorn offense will be as mismanaged as before; however, their defense is stronger. This is exciting, brag-worthy football? I mean, to the extent that you'd waste time thumping your chest in a UNT football forum? -
Article on UTEP QB transfer from A$M
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Impressive. -
They let her go on long enough. Her point was made when she started, using tired, liberal, catch phrases and words like my mysogyny while speaking to Senator Jane Nelson. Utterly stupid. That they let her go on for more than 15 seconds was a wonder. If you have something important or useful to say, fine. She had nothing useful to add. Kudos for cutting off her time-wasting speech, which nothing more than re-hashed left-wing screed.

McCarney has no worries with newcomers
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
Gotta give the coaching staff due credit for this. It's not always easy to single out prospects who can make it academically. A prospect and high school coach can tell you one thing, but.... Everyone, it seems, loses one or two because they didn't do their school work to finish high school in time or didn't do well enough on the SAT or ACT. To have 100% on board is a feather in the cap for McCarney & his crew. Excellent work, coaches! -
Ranking C-USA’s Starting Quarterbacks
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
"The question is to whom, as an upgrade at receiver is sorely needed." This has been the question for many years. We'll see whether this current bunch is any better at getting open and making plays than those in the recent past. -

What does the joining of CUSA mean to you?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Mean_Green09's topic in Mean Green Football
What does the joining of CUSA mean to you? A few, but not many, different opponents. What are your “Biggest Hopes”? The remaining members of the Old C-USA stay, and conference realignment is done. I realize this is nothing more than a dream that will never come true. What are your “Biggest Fears”? We tank harder than we did the last eight years in the Sun Belt. How many years will it take UNT to win a Conference title? In football? Who knows. With the teams that left, those brought along from the Sun Belt, and the start ups, it's not like the competition is going to be worlds different. I expect it to be any year after Tulsa leaves. So, two to infinity years to win the C-USA. Do you think it will be Mac who leads us to that title or no? I do not ...although, I hope I am wrong. I really wanted a coach like McCarney and pushed for it. If I have any sports agony, it is that we do not appear to have gotten much more competitive. If he doesn't, I have a new priority in what I'd like to see in a coach. Because DTs are so hard to find, give me a defensive coordinator from the college ranks with experience with a 3-man front...3-4...3-3-5...3-2-6 (http://digbatonrouge.com/article/mustang-package-key-to-victory-5960/)...whatever. -
Proud to have fielded one of his punts (in three attempts) during the last GoMeanGreen Bowl. Just let me say this from the experience: it looks a lot easier on TV. These guys that know how to punt kick it really, really, really high, man. And, when the ball is kicked that high, and properly, it comes down faster than you expect. Son of a motherloving duck.

Biggest question marks heading into this season
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It's not that we need another deep threat at WR. What we need is three or four more WRs who can run routes correctly, recognize coverages, and get open...consistently.
