Any Interest In This Ou Quitter?
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
This isn't the first time an OU player has left the program due to voluntary workout disagreements. Martinez was their newest coach last year. Maybe he didn't get the memo to have the strength and conditioning coach personally bully the player instead of leaving a message on his phone. If you're going to cheat, it's better not to leave a trail. And, who's going to believe a role player over a long time member of the coaching staff? -

If he started on OU's special teams, I'd bet he could at least do that here. -
At UTA the question is, were the ballot printed in enough languages for the students to understand what they were voting for or against?

Any Interest In This Ou Quitter?

The mental giants of the OU fanbase weigh in: http://www.soonerfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151959 -
Has his grades together. Played in all games as a freshman and sophomore, mainly on special teams, sometimes at safety. From Mesquite. Allegedly the kid who turned OU coaches in for forcing players to sign in to "voluntary" off-season workouts. Had interest of some big program coming out of high school: http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/OU/article.aspx?subjectid=92&articleid=20110304_92_0_Oklaho473195&allcom=1 http://www.soonersports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/trice_marcus00.html http://scoutcombines.scout.com/a.z?s=450&p=8&c=1&nid=3062776 http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Marcus-Trice-81769

Now that we've got the 2011 schedule squared away, isn't it time to start the process of 2012 Schedule Theories? I see on some "future schedule" website that we have only two out of conference games scheduled so far for 2012, so we need a couple of home games to go with them: Sept. 1: @ LSU Sept. 15: @ Kansas State I don't think I'm pulling a rabbit out of the hat when I say those will be tough games. Although, I fully expect former Big 12 coach Dan McCarney to be ready to face Kansas State again in a very exacting manner...although, he was only 2-10 against the Wildcats during that tenure. It's fair to say that Kansas State was at their football zenith at the same time McCarney was lifting the Iowa State program from its perpetual gridiron ash heap. But, anyway, on with the grousing and guessing... My suggestion is that we consider schools who also don't have a full slate of out of conference games listed for 2012. See how that works? They don't have enough. We don't have enough. Let's get together and have enough of each other on the field of football battle? See? So, here are those teams who also appear to need 2012 games and whatnot. And, particularly, I list school which appear to have their fill of 2012 out of conference home games, but seems to be lacking in road games. I've not included Big 12 schools who already have contracts at Jerry World, because you can't sell the 'DFW/Texas' exposure angle to them: Tulsa Texas State Fresno State Washington State UTEP UNLV Utah TCU Virginia North Carolina Mississippi State Southern Miss Nebraska Missouri Kentucky Oregon State Memphis Colorado California Kansas Arizona State Boise State Iowa State Central Michigan Baylor Akron I'd really try to sell continued exposure in Texas to Colorado and Nebraska. Yeah, it's a lot less of a reality with Nebraska because they're nationwide anyway. But, they won't have their feet on the ground in Texas at all anymore unless they are the Big Ten rep in the Alamo Bowl. Sell it to Nebraska as a homecoming game for Rex Burkhead...and Anthony "Cedar Hill" Blue, Nick "Keller" Ash, Jesse "Guyer" Coffey, Jason "Lake Highlands" Dann, Ciante "Arlington Seguin" Evans, Seth "Southlake" Jameson, Murat "Plano" Kuzu, Courtney and Steven "South Garland" Osborne, Kody "Stephenville" Spano, Jamal "Arlington Sam Houston" Turner, Donovan "Arlington Bowie" Vestal, and Josh "Ryan" Williams. I'd also like to see the programs who we "aspire" to be in here, little guys who have built it: Fresno, Boise, and/or Utah. The "off-brands" of the BCS conferences I think are occasionally ripe as well. Look, Michigan State went to FAU. Kansas State was here last year. I don't think it's harebrained to put in a call the ADs at Kentucky, Iowa State, Mississippi State, North Carolina and the like.

Spring Game Talk On The Ticket
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to UNT 90 Grad's topic in Mean Green Football
His dad played football at OU. I think if your dad played football somewhere, you'd probably have grown up cheering for that team. Miller lived in OKC as a kid before his parents moved to Lancaster. About the same thing. No other sports in OKC back then except the Sooners (and minor league hockey). I don't consider those guy t-shirt fans. To me, t-shirt fans are the ones who jump on the bandwagon because of a particular player or era. With OU there were probably people down here following them because of Adrian Peterson. Or, all of the Miami Hurricane fans I knew growing up in Richardson, Texas in the 1980s who had no family or friends anywhere near the state of Florida let alone Miami. It's the same as any other big time school. What we need to do is subdue the penis envy for these other schools and win. People like winners. Winners draw people. Let's do some of it, winning, instead of sitting around and complaining about what other people do and wear. Cowflop. Cowf. Lop. T-shirt fan Napolean Dynamite, sparing GoMeanGreen.com's T-shirt/College Loyalty Mounted Police with his Ricks College t-shirt. -
Forcier Our Way To The Top!
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to mcthunem's topic in Mean Green Football
We already had a quarterback as small as Tate Forcier and he transferred to McNeese State. Dan McCarney has (thankfully) signed us some big boy quarterbacks to see over the line of scrimmage. Let Tate take his act to FCS or Division II like his big brother did. He and our former quarterback can face off on some distant FCS battlefield shared with a local high school. -

Players Still Out There
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
True. All true. Two ACU Wildcats started for the Chicago Bears - Johnny Knox and Danieal Manning. Also, these two "small college" players were pretty good in the NFL for not having played "major college" ball - Jerry Rice and Walter Payton. It's all a matter of grades and tests in most cases. Kids just don't take the tests in time to have their scores back, or their scores aren't there. Doesn't mean they aren't talented. Most just aren't getting a push at home - and, there are a myriad of factors there we won't go into here. -
Coach said Polk and Sergio Kindle were the only two to ever start all four years for him. That's good company. The kid looks like a hitter, but wasn't recruited by big schools because of his height. Maybe this kid will be a Dexter Coakley/Sam Mills-type.

Site Shows North Texas At Tulsa Oct. 1
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to NT80's topic in Mean Green Football
This is a great schedule! Three possible wins with Houston, Indiana, and Tulsa; only one money game at Alabama. I'd love for us to stick an FCS game in on September 3, just to get warmed up and see where we need polish before Houston hits town, but that's probably wishful thinking by now. -
Players Still Out There
The Fake Lonnie Finch replied to All About UNT's topic in UNT Football Recruiting
Test or grade related, most likely. I think the thing on Kendrick Ruben was that he didn't have an SAT score yet. On JUCOs, if they aren't on pace to graduate, they're headed to FCS or Division II. Remember, we've had some of those in the past...a DE that ended up at Tarleton and a CB out of Arizona. DOn't know where the CB ended up. -
But, I'm up and ready for the good recruiting news to roll in!
-
Beating Mizzou and Houston is good stuff. This is a really good start for McCarney and crew.
-
Some of these decommits hurt, but look beyond the disappointment to the reality - we're not just sitting over at the card table with the kids anymore with this coaching staff. When you go up against the Tim Billingses of the recruiting world, you are at the big boy table. To me, it's a good sign that guys as long in the tooth as Billings are having to fight us off for recruits. And, as far as Carr to Oklahoma State - those guys live in DFW. They have 11 commitments from DFW alone this year - 3 from Guyer! I chronicled late last season that Oklahoma State's starting defense was comprised of nine Texans, one kid from Mississippi, and one from South Carolina. These guys know their bread is buttered outside of the few prospects Oklahoma's small population can yield (there are twice are many people living in the DFW area as there are in the entire state of Oklahoma). But, McCarney and his crew are going toe-to-toe with Okie State, and that's a good sign. I truly tired of the "stealth" recruiting of Dickey and Dodge. "Secret recruits." Hey, in 2011, there are no secret recruits. Every last kid can sit in a computer lab at school or at home can make highlight videos of themselves and post them up on YouTube. To think we were going to "secret" away kids was always silly. I think we are long past the days of kids choosing Texas State baseball over us, or having secret recruiting battles with Eastern New Mexico State. I'm sorry to lose Hunt and Carr. But, this coaching staff is out there taking their cuts. This is Reggie Jackson swinging from the heels type of stuff this coaching staff is giving us. These guys aren't going to stand there and just watch the third strike go by. And, that makes me happy in the sports pants. Kerry Swarn is a homerun. The Sampson kid who decommitted Tulsa. The kid Warner from Pinkston going Tech to UNT. These aren't small potatoes. This is good stuff. Hunt and Carr would have made this class more amazing, yeah. But, look at this compared to what we had in 2007. I mean, we've got two scholarship players and one walk on remaining from 2007. Dodge bangers can cry and defend all they want, but they half-assed us all the way through December of 2006 messing around with high school playoffs. The hubris of the early Dodge era was sickening. These coaches McCarney hired have hit the ground running here, and it shows. They are young and hungry, but with enough experience to shake veterans like Billings and the boys up at Okie State while picking off a couple here and there from Mike Stoops and Tommy Tuberville's charges. That ain't bad, my Mean and Green friends. Not bad at all. Now, pass the gravy...these biscuits is getting cold!

Alot of kids get caught up in the Texas hype, but then go down and taste the poop sandwich that is Austin and don't like it. I like that the Longhorns were 5-7 this year. They are cow vomit in my book. One of the highlights of my sports life will always be the 2010 college football season wherein Iowa State and Baylor shat upon Texas in Austin on back-to-back weekends. It is no wonder this kid is leaving. I'd leave to. But, since I have a brain in my head, I'd have never gone down there in the first place. Nothing but a bunch of grass-smoking weirdos who think good music begins and ends with the likes of Willie Nelson. Here's another reason he may have wanted to leave...the linemen churlishly assault the poor defensive backs after interceptions. Even the referees had to flag this behavior!
-
This all bodes well for the future. Torrance Carr...I hope this kid end up on the defensive side of the ball. I love the thought of a 6-3/220 pound safety patrolling the backfield or creeping up to the line for blitzes. It goes without saying that I'm still just giddy about getting Kerry Swarn. A bona fide Stoops brother secondary recruit ends up in Denton! This is a good sign. I also like the LB Derek Akunne from North Garland. Linebackers at 225-240 with 4.5 speed are a good good for us. This is TCU/OU type of stuff the way they shift recruits around to get the right speed on the defensive side of the ball. Josh Hunt...another speedy linebacker. Freddie Warner...a kid who once held an offer and committed to defensive-minded Tommy Tuberville. A year ago, I'd have never believed we'd be swiping recruits from defensive-minded coaches likes Tuberville and Mike Stoops. And, yet here we are! Would have liked to more DTs on the JUCO front. But, I'm going to have to simply trust Dan McCarney and his years of coaching DTs, and hope that his experience can trump the lack of depth for one season. We're not just hitchhiking anymore, we're riding!

Fortunately, we'll never have to have him since our gimmicky offense is gone. And, his two year production in Rich Rod's gimmicky offense was a less than astounding 17 TDs and 14 picks, and losing the starting job to an equally weak-armed passer. Besides, from his dad's own words, he appears to have quit off the field as much as on the field: "Tate didn't flunk out, but he had two incomplete grades. If he was given a chance by at least one professor to make up the work and get a grade, he would be eligible." I wonder what school will be itching to have a skinny, weak-armed QB who wants different classroom rules for himself? Given the choice between Riley Dodge and Tate Forcier, give me Riley Dodge 10 times out of 10. He didn't dog it off the field and he damn near killed himself on it!

One of the most overrated signees in Michigan football history. Those guys are breathing a sigh of relief with Rich Rod and Little Man Tate gone, believe me. He'd make a great FCS or Division II quarterback with the right coaching. Otherwise, he can go sit on someone else's FBS bench for another couple of seasons.
