ASU and UNT are the teams I think will surprise this year. Both have enough talent and both have head coaches who know they have to produce. I look for ASU to beat Indiana and Louisville but not Navy.
-
Congratulations on your win and glad to see you returning to form for the stretch run. FYI: ASU Coach Brady said the ASU will have the services of their suspended forward JeJuan Brown for the game Saturday but said nothing about their injured guard, Daniel Bryant. If both return they would have 10 players available and they will need them to have a chance against you guys Saturday.
-
Take them one at a time and Troy is pretty good so good luck. FYI: Brady did say today he expects to have 2 more players available when they play you guys next Saturday. Have a feeling he is going to need them.
-
While the game at Troy prevents you guys from looking ahead to next Saturday's game with ASU, because ASU has the week off I can. If ASU can get a couple of the starters back to shore up the depleted roster of 8 players they have had to go with the last 4 games it should be a good one. If they don't it will still be good, at least for you guys. Good luck next Thursday.

Dang, Troy Is Looking Good Tonight
Seminole Indian replied to MeanGreen01's topic in Mean Green Football
I totally agree. ASU lost to Troy and Iowa by three points. Probably should have beaten Iowa and were lucky to stay that close to Troy. -
There are not many schools that you could not say the same thing about. Because of parity almost every fan of every BCS school feels their team is bipolar.

E S P N Week 1 Bowl Projections
Seminole Indian replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
It looks like some people are unfamiliar with ASU’s history of 2-4 finishes. No coaching staff in the SBC chokes like ASU’s although I’m beginning to worry a little bit about Troy’s. -
Monday Morning Recap Episode Iv: A New Hope
Seminole Indian replied to Quoner's topic in Mean Green Football
Based on Thursday’s big, big win it appears that the future is now in Denton. The SBC really needs a strong UNT football team and it appears that this year’s team will be capable of beating any SBC team so enjoy what should be an exciting return to quality football at UNT starting right now! Again congratulations on the big win (with Troy falling on their faces the SBC really needed it) and beat Ohio. -
2005 Game Between Asu And Unt
Seminole Indian replied to Seminole Indian's topic in Mean Green Football
Nope! ASU won, barely and went to the NO bowl as a result. Still, the replay and fan voting is a reminder that not to long ago all rode’s leading to an SBC Championship in football ran through Denton and not Troy. -
ASU is replaying five games from the past five years this week on TV based on fan input and the 2005 game with UNT is one of the games selected for replay. On their official site they have a poll asking what was the biggest A-State game in the last five years and the 2005 UNT game leads the A&M win by 42 to 40 percent. No other games were close too those two games in the voting and the game with Texas did not make the list.

Any Interst In This Quitter?
Seminole Indian replied to The Fake Lonnie Finch's topic in Mean Green Football
I’m sure there will be interest in Cannon Smith up in the Memphis area because his dad is the founder of FedEx. Heard he was coming back to Memphis to make his decision. ASU recruited him out of High School but he committed to Ole Miss. Don’t remember the circumstances but the offer was pulled. Not a bad player. -
Isiah Lands No. 8 Recruit In Nation
Seminole Indian replied to untlynchka's topic in Mean Green Basketball
It is a fact that Brady had issues at LSU but I thought it was mostly with the press. I also think when Brady took over at LSU they were either going on or coming off NCAA probation and most give him credit for rebuilding the program. Fact is that ASU normally selects it head coach from less qualified candidates than their current assistants and no one in Arkansas doubts that Brady will not build a winner at ASU. That is unusual for Arkansas because the inferiority complex that permeates everything in the State, normally results in the Hawg fans and the state-wide media, attacking anything Non-Razorback and that has not been the case with Brady. -

It is a compliment to the other coaches in the SBC that I cannot say they are the best. Brady pretty much brought the entire LSU staff with him and a couple of ASU’s assistants have recently been noted as being among the best assistant coaches and in the nation. ASU is very, very lucky to have that staff and Brady & Company have gone out of their way to insure everyone in Jonesboro and throughout Arkansas that they are in this for the long hall. Why that is exciting to ASU fans will be evident after this season. -

You can add ASU to that list, starting this year. There is no better overall coaching staff in the league and the talent has undergone a major upgrade from last year. -
Sun Belt Hopes To Profit From Poor Economy
Seminole Indian replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
From what I have read rough seas are ahead for everyone. Sure hitting the University of Tennessee hard. Still, the SBC is now apart of the landscape of BCS football and there is a solid symbiotic relationship in play here. The Auto Qualifying BCS Conferences have no intention of letting the other BCS conferences fail. -
I'm glad to see his size. I kind of put down ASU’s QB commit the other day in another post on this message board. ASU's has a commit from Chris Lambeth who is 6' , 194lbs with 4.8 speed. He had two stars on Rivals but his size and speed was a concern. Glad to see that you don’t have to be 6’ 4” and 220lbs and run a 4.6 to be good.

Recruiting; How Are Our Sbc Foes Faring?
Seminole Indian replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
I'm not really sold on the RB but he has a little wiggle and a little burst at the line of scrimmage so ASU had to take him with those kinds of numbers. Try 194 lbs. for the QB but the 4.8 stays. ASU coaches just love short QB's for some reason. They had been touting Travis Hewitt 6'0/210 for two years and he was really a bust this year. Basically the way the classes are lining up, ASU has limited spots open on the two deep for freshmen and really is recruiting 'program players' who are expected to come in red-shirt and wait their turn. A few freshmen do jump ahead but for the most part, except for the props, they are recruited to contribute as juniors and seniors. It has been reported that a couple of props are on track to be eligible at ASU and will count toward this class. They are Erick Stone S/LB 6’3/ 225/4.5 sec and Rudy Harrell OL/DL 6’6/280/ 4.8 sec. Both were consistent top 20 recruits last year in Arkansas and to be quite honest ASU does not get them, if they were not partial qualifiers. True SEC caliber athletes. Anyway good luck to UNT in your recruiting because you're new coach really should take you to another level and I just hope we can hang with you. -
Recruiting; How Are Our Sbc Foes Faring?
Seminole Indian replied to gangrene's topic in Mean Green Football
Stealth is the word at ASU but here is what I know: Commits: Alex Birton OL 6’1 ½”/297/5.4 sec/500 lb bench. Number of outstanding OL in Arkansas this year. Most taller than 6’5 and going to SEC, including one of Birton’s Teammates. His coach says he is the best OL in the State. Highly-touted going into this season Don’t know if grades are an issue here or what. Elroy Brown Jr. LB 6’ ½”/205 4.5 sec Arkansas Super Team Linebacker– a legacy, his father played at ASU. Most expected him to end up at Tennessee going into his senior year. Don’t know if grades/test score are an issue here. Derek Lawson RB 6’ 0/205/4.55 sec- Arkansas Super Team RB, set State single season rushing record, over 3000 yards. Put on about 20 lbs and came out of nowhere as a senior. Unstoppable at the HS level, but probably a project at college level. Chris Lambeth 6’0/ 294/4.8 sec – Alabama QB that Rivals has listed as a two star commit. Got lot of SEC interest but no SEC offers…. yet. Might be just a little short. Signed Brandon Ciaramitaro OL/C –6’3/285 lb- All State JC Lineman from Mississippi- offered by ASU, Ohio and UAB, should be in the mix at center next season. Real smart. Lots of players in Arkansas this year, probably the best numbers in a decade. -
Ark State has passed you by.....
Seminole Indian replied to SouthernMissFan's topic in Mean Green Football
Not much difference in both teams and both are not far away from being pretty good 1A teams. There are several other SBC teams in the same boat so, hopefully, next year there will not be a bad team in the SBC. While I’ve fallen behind on knowing the quality of younger players at UNT, the talent of ASU’s team is going to improve considerably after this year. Even though the current two deep is young overall, the best players at ASU are the younger players, many who have not made it to the field as of yet. Hopefully the same is true at UNT. -
2nd Bowl In Sun Belt Future (SBC Notes)
Seminole Indian replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
I think those days are past for the Sun Belt. I look for 2-3 teams to be bowl eligible evey year because of better schedules. -
Spurrier wants more team dedication
Seminole Indian replied to MeanGreen61's topic in Mean Green Football
How in the world could anyone call these workouts ‘voluntary’ after reading the comments by Spurrier. -
I thought everything was expensive so I did not bother to ask or look around this time! Nice area will stay longer the next time. I drove all the way from Jonesboro, Arkansas, snatched my Granddaughter and headed back the next day. Would have stayed longer but my daughter-in-law let me fish off this little pier behind her house and I caught a fish, laid it on the pier and that fish walked to the edge of the pier and jumped into the water. Back to Arkansas for me!

I just referenced the preseason starters when I used them as an example: C Ryan Kalil 6’4 275 RG Fred Matua Jr 6’2 305 LG Jeff Byers 6’3 275 RT Winston Justice 6’6 300 LT Sam Baker 6’5 290 Did not follow them so do not know who actually played. Also noted that they were not very big the year before in the NC game.

[6'2" 290lbs is a decent size for a "non-BCS " guard or center. ←

Not sure where UNT fits at the start, but when I was a youngster, ASU football was associated with teams like Abilene Christian, Trinity College, Lamar Tech, and Texas Arlington. Rice, SMU, Tulsa, Memphis State, Wichita State were all ‘super powers’ by comparison and no one would have associated ASU with them. All I know for a fact is that in the intervening years ASU has grown it's program to the point that completion between these types of programs is considered as playing ‘similar programs’. No amount of ‘smack talk’ can change that reality. At the beginning of this same time period, by contrast, the University of Arkansas was associated with the top national powers in football, having claimed a part of the 1964 Title and losing to Texas for the 1969 Title. They were a true football power. They are no longer, by any standard but spending dollors, a football power and more resemble those 'hanger-on' programs in the old SWC, good only by association. Bottom line our programs are really growing programs whereas some others are not. That some of the fans of these other programs do not like it, does not change the reality of it.
