I almost hate to say it, but there is a lose-to-Rice scenario that still gets us to the Championship game: 1 - Rice loses at home to UTSA and FAU loses @ MTSU this week. 2 - FAU then beats WKU (@ FAU) next week. This would result in a 3-way tie with 3 losses between us, WKU, and FAU, which we would win first tiebreak with wins over both. Let's hope it doesn't come to that, but that would be a totally SL thing to have happen.

The lament of every AD, the non-traditional home game date. We will have some in the AAC, as all conferences play games on Thursday nights. The only "great" Thursday date, IMO, is a road Thursday night game on the week following a bye. Many do not want Thanksgiving Saturday (a traditional bad draw for us also), others do not want the first Saturday of deer season or other similar dates. Hopefully the bad date pain gets spread around year-to-year.

I'd much rather have the FCS game open the season, that's the best possible spot for it. If SMU had played a game before us, the coaching staff would have seen their never-huddle bit and at least tried to be ready for it. They clearly were not expecting it on Sept 3.

How do you define "quality bowl"? I think of 3 tiers, the NC game, the other "playoff" bowls, and all the other Whatever.com Bowls are pretty much the same after that. The scenery is different for each one though. If I can get there, I'm going.
