Yep. They're broadcasters who took an opportunity to call college football games. As the voice of those schools, they're going to have some affiliation with them regardless of where they went to school. Do UNT alums expect all of our great radio/TV graduates to only work for UNT? Seems like a tough way to make a living waiting for George to get tired of calling our games.

No! North Texas has never passed up an opportunity to beat ourselves.

Should Nt Refuse To Play Utsa And Tsu-Sm (In Football) ?
rcade replied to Texas Stranger's topic in Mean Green Football
Hell no. North Texas fans get more excited about playing schools from Texas. We should play as many as we can. There are still some Southland Conference-era fans around who would enjoy seeing the old Southwest Texas State roll into Denton. Also, any excuse to go to San Marcos is a good one. That hilly campus produces some seriously good looking legs on coeds. -
For Those Who Think The Belt's Perception Is Changing
rcade replied to eppy4life's topic in Mean Green Football
Who argues the greatness of the Belt? The most that people say is that it might be better than the diminished WAC. No one is putting it above CUSA or the MWC. -
Amen, brother. Your uniforms look pretty good. We definitely need a lot more green, especially at home.
-
SMU has around 11,000 students. I'd be amazed if they got anywhere near 20K at what they charge.
-
To each his own, but I don't see why people go to football games and socialize on a party deck. They do it here in Jacksonville too. I go to games to watch the game. Any socializing I do is with the people around me, and even then I'm not terribly gabby.
-
You're overstating our case a little, but your numbers give me reason for optimism. Our floor for attendance is SMU's ceiling. The new coach and new stadium have to be worth a couple thousand extra butts in seats.
-
My only opinion on a uniform design is that it includes lots of green. You can't name yourself for a color and only use it as an accent.
-
That's hideous. It looks like a voodoo spell ingredient.

Given the financial commitment North Texas is making, I don't think it's too much to ask for him to have a house in the Denton County area. I hope he's looking for a place.
-
Grow up. He's using GMG to promote his reporting and I made a suggestion for how he could do it better.

I'm glad you post links here, but I wish you'd give us the headline and lead paragraph in your posts so we know why to check them out.

Because he brought UNT four straight conference championships, a 25-game conference winning streak, our first bowl game in 41 years and our first bowl victory. Other than that, not much.
-
Every year, the gap between the haves and have nots gets bigger. The non-AQ schools aren't going to get into the BCS party often enough to make a revenue difference. It just feels like a game we'll never be able to win.
-
That's pretty much how I'd rank things, though if you're ambitious enough to include the Big 12, I'd put the SEC as the conference atop that spectrum.
-
The Mountain West Conference is a stronger conference than the Sun Belt, so it's more attractive. The WAC may be weaker than the Belt once the departures are done.
-
Sorry to hear Dickey was let go at New Mexico. Enough time has passed that I'd like to see him get another chance as a head coach somewhere, regardless of how things ended in Denton.
-
The non-AQ schools would be better off getting away from the bowl system and either running their own playoff or participating in the FCS playoffs. The FBS is rigged. None of the non-AQs will win a national championship, and the revenue gap between us and the BCS conferences will continue to widen over time.

Lighten up, Francis.

So your solution is that UNT needs a plan and they need to implement that plan in the future? Why didn't the rest of us think of that? Saying that a plan is needed is not the same thing as actually having a plan. You would be a good university president. You have mastered the ability to say a lot without saying anything at all.
-
Who's chanting? You wanted to know why some UNT fans have animosity against SMU and I explained it. I think UNT has done as much as it could to work towards a better conference affiliation, aside from hiring Todd Dodge. But it's not like there's any guarantee that a coach you hire will work out. We did enough to get a WAC invite, and were smart enough to turn it down. If we got a CUSA invite, I think it would be a great home for us.
-
UNT alumni haven't had much to be excited about where football is concerned. When that changes and UNT earns an invite into a conference that casual fans care about, we'll see how much our alums can be discounted. Your sneering dismissals of all things UNT make me question why you are hanging out here.

I was referring to the entire system of public universities and colleges in Texas. Not smaller university systems.
-
Putting it all on UNT is stupid, considering the fact that it's part of a public university system and bigger schools have more juice in Austin. UNT was kept out of the SWC because member schools saw the direction we were going in enrollment. They were afraid we'd overshadow the smaller private schools in Fort Worth and Dallas by the sheer volume of our student body. Over time, this is happening. You can't put as many alumni into the area as UNT has done the past 20 years and not become a regional player.
