  1. UNT fans should appreciate Dickey's accomplishments and move beyond the way things ended for him at our school. His conference winning streak and first bowl victory for UNT in 40 years should be enough to put him alongside Hayden Fry as coaches who had great runs in Denton.
  2. I like that Coach McCarney is doing this. But somebody in the UNT athletic department needs to help him do it on Facebook and Twitter too, because he'll reach a lot more people that way. It looks like he has a Facebook account with 869 friends but I don't see any Wall posts there.
  3. I agree. Giving them two home games for nothing in return is weak.
  4. That link claims Georgia Tech has 500,000 more fans than Georgia (1.6 million to 1.1). I can't take anything else seriously after noting that. There are at least five times as many Georgia fans as Georgia Tech fans in the state.
  5. Me too. I see no outcome here that's good for schools in UNT's position. I'd like to see the non-AQ conferences get really creative here and form some kind of umbrella organization. They could schedule each other preferentially and stop laboring under the illusion there will ever be a spot for us at the BCS table.
  6. Does anyone know what McCarney was yelling as the team ran off at halftime? I couldn't tell if he was upset at a ref, upset at his team, or just yelling encouragement to the team.
  7. The faults of Coach Dodge don't matter to me any more. We all already know he wasn't up to the job. I just want to see if the team gets better from week to week under Coach McCarney. As long as there's progress this season I'm happy.
  8. As Green Jackal said, KNTU is staffed by students of varying experience levels. If you don't like the lack of UNT sports coverage, especially on a week like this, send them email to let them know.
  9. A committee that split 50/50 on what they should wear.
  10. We don't. There's plenty of blame to go around. My favorite scapegoat is former UNT president C.C. Nolan. Anyone see this SMU onside kick attempt?
  11. What kind of logic is that? The team doesn't play better or worse because of the way the gambling line moves.
  12. Among other things, the perception that SMU has worked behind the scenes to keep us out of a good conference.
  13. I love promotion and relegation as a fan of soccer. But I don't think it will ever come to major U.S. sports. The haves will never agree to a system that might make them have-nots.
  14. We're definitely among the most beleaguered programs because of the idiotic decision to go down to I-AA. But I was attending UT-Arlington right after they killed football. I'd say they've suffered more.
  15. I hate this analogy. I follow my alma mater because I'm proud to have graduated from the school and I enjoy following the team. There are times I question why I enjoy it, but ultimately I stick around. No one is being abused by being a North Texas fan. If anyone out there doesn't enjoy being a fan, they should go do something they enjoy better. Besides, it could be worse -- we could be UT fans. Every conference they join ends up folding. I feel sorry for them.
  16. It was McCarney's first game. You have to walk before you can run. I don't think we should saddle the team this year with unrealistic expectations. What I want to see is progress. I don't expect a lot of wins.
  17. I don't know what you were expecting McCarney's first team to do in its first game, but FIU is the reigning Sun Belt champion. Don't lose sight of the positives because we laid an enormous egg in the first quarter.
  18. We had 300 yards of total offense but didn't convert in the red zone and missed some field goals. It's not great, but hardly a cause to step out onto the ledge.
  19. North Texas only had 5 penalties for 45 yards. The special teams scored a touchdown. Why are we fixating on one offensive play call we didn't like? Some plays aren't going to work. It happens.
  20. It doesn't make me wonder. There's a lot of time before a game, and most of the serious prep would've been closer to kickoff than that video.
  21. We turned down the WAC already, so there's no make-or-break there. We wisely chose break on that one. But I agree with you that realignment is a minor issue for us. We're not going to get invites anywhere until we're winning the Belt again. That needs to be our focus. FIU shows where we have to be as a program to make that happen.
  22. He also had a nice 47-yard return early in the game. Chancellor played well.
  23. We should definitely give FIU more credit. That may be as good a Sun Belt team as the conference has ever fielded. T.Y. Hilton is incredible. The current Sports Illustrated has him as one of the four "players to watch" on unranked teams. I'm disappointed in that trainwreck of a first quarter, but I like how the team responded the rest of the game. We held FIU's offense to 13 points, our defense and special teams produced 16 points, and our offense finally started moving the ball and ended up with 301 total yards. Chancellor and Outlaw had some nice catches and Dunbar looked great on that swing pass he took for 30 yards.
  24. Where are the restaurants and bars in Denton that have UNT sports memorabilia on the walls and show out of town games?
  25. We got there at 3:05 p.m. The place closed at 3 and is apparently lunch only.
