  1. 26 schools and every pro and minor league sports franchise outside of Utah manages the risk of selling beer. Why not us?
  2. So I can be an alumnus and have UNT as my alma mater without graduating? All that work for nothing!
  3. It sounds like a domestic dispute.
  4. USF went 4-7 in CUSA the last season before joining the Big East in 2005. The year before that they had just joined CUSA and went 7-4. History here: http://www.tampa-attractions.com/usf-football.html
  5. CUSA is unquestionably better than the Sun Belt. Would you prefer we waited around for a Big 10 invite?
  6. If I understand your comment correctly, you don't have to graduate from a school to consider it your alma mater. You do have to graduate to be an alumnus.
  7. Same here. I'm counting the hours until game 6.
  8. Me neither. We got to this dance too late.
  9. Only 26 FBS programs were selling beer at their stadiums as of 2009: http://online.wsj.co...6817105157.html It's a wonder anyone goes to college football games without it. I thought drinking beer at football games was a constitutional right.
  10. Unless we have better alternative rivalries we can start building now, I see no benefit to waiting. UTSA is clearly going to be as big a program as UNT and will perhaps be another USF.
  11. Surely we're not afraid of scheduling two new FBS programs for fear they will be able to outrecruit McCarney.
  12. The choice isn't whether to schedule a money game or schedule UTSA. We're going to have one money game a season regardless. The choice is whether to schedule Texas State or UTSA instead of teams like Tulsa, Ball State and Ohio.
  13. We have no better option for regular in-state rivals than UTSA and Texas State. The lack of long conference affiliation with Texas schools has left UNT with no natural rivalries other than SMU. The closest we come to a historic rivalry is New Mexico State, thanks to our past conference affiliation and bowl history with them. But they're a long way from us by distance and even some Mean Green fans would be hard pressed to explain why we should be considered rivals. I think UNT should reach a four- or six-game home and home with one or both UTSA and Texas State now and see if we can build something out of that.
  14. Nope. If you don't greet the opposing team with boos for having the temerity to take the field, you should turn in your fan card.
  15. You spend a lot more time worrying about what to wear at sporting events than I do. I've worn UNT gear to ACC championship games in Jacksonville. If anybody gave a crap about what I was wearing, they didn't communicate it to me. They should consider themselves lucky my shirt wasn't covered with spilt beer, nacho cheese and pit stains.
  16. Not everybody who attends a sporting event is a fan of one of the two teams playing. They might just be a fan of the sport.
  17. He's being called a douche. How do you think that goes over with him, the people who brought him to the game, and anyone else who wears other-school gear to a UNT game? It's not like this board is private. Anyone who reads college football boards might show up here if they're interested in a recent game. This kind of topic tells the casual fan who isn't a UNT diehard that he won't be welcome. While McCarney is busting his ass to get people to Apogee, telling anybody they're not welcome at the games is idiotic.
  18. I hate this new board trend. A butt in the seats is a butt in the seats regardless of what school's gear the fan is wearing. If you want UNT to attract new fans because of Apogee and McCarney, they have to come from somewhere. College football fans in DFW who follow other schools -- but come to UNT games for whatever reason -- are a promising target market for us.
  19. How easy does the travel have to be? Big 10 and SEC rivals often have to drive eight hours or more and thousands of fans make the trek.
  20. I'll take wins any way we can get them this season. UNT hasn't won four games or more since 2007. If we could get 4-5 this year, it would be a huge improvement.
  21. No kidding. This board is a drag after a UNT loss and a drag after a UNT win. Who cares if the defense won the game for us more than the offense? It's still a win, which is something we weren't experiencing very often the past five years. We talk here all the time about how to elevate UNT's football program to respectability. Step 1 in every plan to do that is TO WIN GAMES. If you can't appreciate a UNT win because you've become completely cynical about the program, find something else to do that you actually have a chance to enjoy.
  22. The Sun Belt is not on shaky ground. Few of its teams are in any danger at all of being invited to a better conference.
  23. I don't know why you would think that, since our SI office was around when Dodge and Dickey were the head coach and there were no letters like this back then.
  24. Amazing, no? It's like he learned how to coach a college team from Hayden Fry.
  25. The SEC's $2.25 billion TV contract with ESPN and $825 million TV contract with CBS make it the richest conference by a sizable margin.
