  1. Texas is talked about more than the other ex-SWC schools combined. Beating UT would have been huge for I-AA UNT. Appalachian State beating Michigan huge.
  2. It would've been the first and only time UNT ever beat UT. You're nuts to think that wouldn't have mattered.
  3. If UNT was in a BCS conference, I hope we'd see that the effort to split the FBS in two may be killing the golden goose. The BCS schools are practically begging for an antitrust case.
  4. Now we're getting somewhere. Are we talking Forest Green, Emerald or Flying Worm Lime?
  5. That was the most bitter loss I experienced in sports until Nelson Cruz slowly backed up and leapt awkwardly after misjudging the fence at Busch Stadium.
  6. As a long-time, long-suffering fan of the Mean Green, I've often wondered what it will take for the football program to reach a status that you'd expect of a school our size in a coveted TV market. We've been punching below our weight since I arrived on campus in 1987, though I feel somewhat optimistic these days with Apogee Stadium and Coach McCarney. I think it's possible for UNT to become a respectable mid-major that gets enough high-profile OOC victories to make big teams fear to schedule us. As I ponder what can be done to build the Mean Green, I've had a few off-the-wall ideas for ways that fans could have a direct impact on the program. I throw them out for consideration to see whether they're stupid. 1. Edit game video so that every player on the team has all of their best plays on YouTube, organized by player, right after each game. It promotes the player's accomplishments -- which don't get enough attention in the DFW media -- and the hope is that high school athletes considering UNT might see them. This is something that could be done on campus by RATV students. 2. Create a uniform fund so that every Pop Warner and YMCA league in Texas that wants a team called the Mean Green can get discounted or free uniforms with our shade of green and an official Mean Green logo. It's a minor bit of brand-building, but the kids who played as Mean Green will have a positive association with the real deal when they get older. What are your crazy ideas for promoting the program?
  7. Can't find a link, but I read that McQueary has already told Penn State he's leaving.
  8. Me too. I never would have thought Joe Freakin' Paterno could leave a legacy at Penn State that required everything he left behind to be thrown out. Stunning news, but a well-deserved fate.
  9. Tom Bradley wasn't promoted. He's only been named the interim coach. I have no doubt that his entire staff will be shown the door after the season to avoid the chance anyone can be asked what they knew about Sandusky's crimes.
  10. Those people are called police, which is why you call them when somebody tells you he saw a child being raped by an adult in your team showers.
  11. The evidence is his own grand jury testimony, where he said he was told that Sandusky was seen "fondling or doing something of a sexual nature to a young boy" in the Penn State locker room showers. He didn't do all that he could. He didn't make a single call to police, even as the weeks went by and the police never talked to him about the incident. His career ending in shocking disgrace is entirely of his own making.
  12. Sandusky was running youth football camps on Penn State campuses as recently as 2009: http://deadspin.com/5856887/as-recently-as-2009-jerry-sandusky-was-running-an-overnight-football-camp-for-kids-on-penn-state-campuses This could be the most disgusting scandal in the history of college sports.
  13. Curley's not a law enforcement official. When you become aware of allegations of child sex abuse, you're required to report it to police or a child welfare agency.
  14. Penn State athletic director Tim Curley and another school official are facing perjury and failing to report charges related to allegations that longtime assistant coach Jerry Sandusky sexually abused eight boys. Sandusky, who retired from Penn State in 1999 after 32 years in coaching, was indicted Friday on 40 counts after a two-year grand jury investigation. Ray Gricar, a district attorney who chose not to pursue charges against Sandusky in 1998 after allegations the coach touched a 12-year-old boy in a shower, disappeared in 2005 and was declared dead this year. Head coach Joe Paterno was not charged. Prosecutors said he reported an allegation of abuse to Curley when he first learned about it. Since retirement, Sandusky has focused his time on Second Mile, a charity he founded in 1977 that helps 200,000 kids in the state with youth camps and programs. http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/story/15998954/penn-state-ad-exassistant-sandusky-charged-in-child-sex-case/rss How was JoePa not charged with failure to report? He was told by a graduate assistant in 2002 who had allegedly witnessed Sandusky sexually abuse a naked 10-year-old boy in the showers of Penn State's locker room.
  15. Screw that. I want all SMU fans to be like the "drop UNT" dude. Don't water down my Mustang hate.
  16. I'm confused about the moral of your story. Having Tony Romo as the Cowboys quarterback is the happy ending? Shouldn't we be angry at the Tuna for not stopping Romo early and saving us a lot of suffering?
  17. Teams don't get to skip rungs on the conference ladder very often. The biggest reason SMU's getting more realignment love than us is because they were in two better conferences -- the SWC and CUSA.
  18. I think you answered your own question. If McNulty is the guy for the future, he needs the game time.
  19. Can she play quarterback?
  20. My favorite part of the letter to The Daily is where he complains about "giant, intimidating letter signs." Was he afraid they would fall down on him? Did the cannon give him the vapors?
  21. How they're treated? Given the rise of fraternity row and sorority row right off campus in the years since I graduated in 1991, they've been treated pretty damn well in my book. I don't think it's too much to ask that they draw the line at drunk instead of sloppy drunk and refrain from vomiting in sight of fans entering and exiting Apogee.
  22. You want fewer people to be part of the game day atmosphere? Staying outside during the game is dumb, but it's dumber to drive away people who will be rolling through those turnstiles when they're excited about the program.
  23. Was she talking about Mean Green hand cleaner?
  24. This kind of talk reminds me of a line from the movie Broadcast News: "Wouldn't this be a great world if insecurity and desperation made us more attractive? If needy were a turn-on?" I hope this isn't too blunt for the board, but people need to stop describing UNT as a pity f--k. That kind of talk isn't going to pack Apogee and it makes us look like the saddest FBS program in the country.
  25. The school claimed it was losing nearly $1 million a year on a program that drew 5,600 fans a game. http://www.uta.edu/sportsexpansion/
