  1. He's 27-30 (10-15 conference) as head coach at SFA and the team he brought into Denton was underwhelming. I am having trouble feeling bad that we didn't pick him over Morris.
  2. Kinne was hired 11 days before Morris and 2 days before we fired Littrell. I remember fans here complaining that waiting to fire Littrell would cost us in hiring, but how many people back then would've considered Kinne a much better hire than Morris?
  3. Our games will determine where we are in the AAC.
  4. Larry Coker isn't a success story for them. He went 26-32 and 15-15 in conference at UTSA. The Roadrunners are where they are because they hired Jeff Traylor, who didn't have a big-time resume of success before that. It was his first head coaching gig.
  5. NIL means never having to do anything to earn the money. You're paid for being yourself, which you can't not be. It's got to be the sweetest check to cash in the world.
  6. Our level is the AAC. UNT has the resources to put a football team on the field capable of playing at the level of our conference mates. We're not a broke G5 with a crap stadium and a dinky head coach salary any more.
  7. I still want 7 wins this season. I'm not giving that up as my yardstick of success until it's mathematically impossible, and maybe not even then.
  8. My sons went to UF and one goes to FSU. I get more email from their athletic departments than I ever do from UNT, despite being a small donor at various times over the years.
  9. And other teams are doing badly. You have to win the portal every year in the chaos era of college football. So many players left UNT that we began this season with the most new arrivals in the FBS. Look at FSU. Norvell hit on a bunch of transfers last season and went undefeated before the postseason. He missed on a bunch this season and our conference mate Memphis is about to drop them to 0-3 at Doak. None of this is offered as an excuse for Eric Morris. He has the same opportunity to bring in players as any other team at our level.
  10. You can't run your offense giving up this many touchdowns. Morris has put together a good offense but it won't matter with a Charmin soft defense.
  11. You can't run your normal offense giving up this many touchdowns.
  12. Just give me an average defense to go with our offense. That's not too much to ask.
  13. It could be worse, people. We could be Florida State.
  14. I'm going to keep talking about the missed field goal so I don't have to think about anything that happened after that.
  15. Yes he missed it badly, but the timing matters. Snap has to be better. It was completely behind the holder.
  16. That play reminded me of the Soul Train dance line: "Everybody stand in a line while Morris boogies."
  17. Bad snap deserves some of the blame for that miss.
  18. It's not cool to get into an AD's face. If you have something bad to say to them, do it with a plane.
  19. Hot damn! As a UNT fan I wasn't prepared to see that kind of speed in the open field.
  20. The value the other way is the giant pile of money that fell into the PAC-2's laps and a media deal that will be a step above what the MWC is getting.
  21. I think Denton is more strongly tied to Dallas than Fort Collins is to Denver, but the suburban sprawl is eventually going to reach Fort Collins the way it did Denton. Maybe the distance matters less than whether Fort Collins counts as Denver media market. When I went to UNT in the 1980s it felt like Denton was a college town outside of DFW. When I'm back now it feels like part of the endless sea of humanity, KTCK listeners, Tex-Mex and hot-headed gun-toting drivers.
  22. "What conference are we going to be in next year?" is starting to feel like another "what players are going to play for us next year?" College football has taken a jackhammer to the entire foundation of the sport.
  23. When I lived in Denver for a year I don't remember anybody talking about Colorado State football. Some of this may have been because it was during Bill McCartney's epic run at Colorado and Sonny Lubick was just starting to lift Colorado State out of mediocrity, but Fort Collins is 75 miles from Denver and not part of the Denver area (yet?). The Rams are a good program, though. I'd love to see UNT get a home and home with them. The last time they played Lubick's team beat UNT in the New Orleans Bowl in 2001.
  24. The new PAC-12 *is* a G5 conference.
  25. I wonder how many of these athletes had a realistic idea of how much playing time they'd get at their new schools. Seems like a lot of them just ride the pine. Even with the bigger payday that would be a bummer. You don't get to play college football for long.
