  1. I love Derek Football. 7,427 passing yards. 50 touchdowns (42 by air, 8 by land). Heart of Dallas Bowl MVP. Second-best passing yards for a season in UNT history.
  2. It looks to me like he was trying to push our player into the returner since he couldn't reach him to make a tackle. Seems like a smart play, though dirty. The most it might cost them is 15 yards on their kickoff if flagged.
  3. I see UTEP as the only win possibility and none of the other games being more competitive than we were against Marshall. Suggesting we will put a scare into Tennessee is absolutely bonkers.
  4. There's only four games left. Assuming that "surprise a lot of people" means wins (plural), where are you finding more than one win in this schedule? Louisiana Tech (road), Tennessee (paycheck), Middle Tennessee State (road), UTEP (home).
  5. I guess someone at the DRC thought better of the UTKFC crack, since the article and link now call it UTKFC. They're a good conference rival for us. I'm glad we can finally call it a rivalry now that we've won a game off them. Update: I get it now. This board is automatically changing it to UTKFC. Not the DRC. Sneaky.
  6. The Canales ship has sailed. It would've been interesting to see what he did at UNT if hired instead of McCarney, but at this point winning either 1 or 2 games in 2015 isn't enough to earn him the top job. His record as OC under McCarney wasn't good, and blaming all of that on McCarney is too much of a stretch. We'd never hire an OC from somewhere else whose team lost as much as this one has.
  7. We don't even know that RV made the call to fire McCarney after PSU. There's talk that Smatresk made him do it.
  8. Scott Sidway is live-broadcasting the post-game coaches presser: https://www.periscope.tv/w/aQV0xzE2NTc1Mzh8MWxQS3FOVnFQRG1HYnyWvIIb2Drdru42OkUOp8a2xEAwcb5yg_IXX5rBVqYu Canales' first comment "Now we have a rivalry. Now we have a rivalry."
  9. Not any more. Now we can call this a rivalry. See you next year. Get a better logo. That's not a $5 Fill-Up ... it's a crow with bed head. Update: This board is changing the word "r o a d r u n n e r" to "$5 Fill-Up." Weird.
  10. Banner planes aren't like RV's salary. We don't have to pay if it never gets off the ground.

  12. Another crowd shot:
  13. If we can't trust him to make a quick pass or throw it out of the end zone right away, the game's already lost anyway. Better to bet on your own players there than to play it safe. We're 0-7. We can go for broke.
  14. Somebody is showing the game on Periscope: https://www.periscope.tv/w/1YpJkXQDELBxj
  15. Here's a photo of the turnout:
  16. UNT doesn't have to fire RV immediately to keep him away from hiring the next coach. Schools do it all they time -- they push a departing AD to a new position to serve out his contract. FSU just did it in 2013 by pushing Randy Spetman out as AD and into a "special advisor" position. We won't move on if RV hires the coach. We'll be in the RV era of football another 3-5 years.
  17. Heresy. If the chips are blue and nothing comes with sour cream sauce I'm not interested.
  18. That would depend on the president's response. If he had taken RV out of the decision on the next coach, it probably would have satisfied a lot of fans. Instead, he's shown us very little as a leader. He doesn't respond to any email complaints about athletics -- as far as I can tell -- and he hasn't done anything proactive to acknowledge how deep the problems are in football and basketball. It's like he thinks we'll stop being upset if he waits long enough. My personal belief is that UNT loses a significant number of longtime fans and boosters if RV makes the next hire and locks us into another 3-5 years of his approach to the money sports. I know I'll be gone if that happens.
  19. If this is a sign from God that He wants RV to remain as AD, God better send us a quarterback.
  20. You make a good point.
  21. Tell us those better ways, and explain why they won't be ignored just like all the letters and emails sent since the PSU game.
  22. All your money didn't buy you much class.
  23. Fans attempted to convince Smatresk privately to replace the AD. Many of us sent emails and letters. To my knowledge, none of us got a reply beyond a "your mail has been received" formality. Instead, RV responded by telling the press that his critics are just a disgruntled "minority." That's where the impetus for the banner campaign came from. We were being ignored and our complaints weren't being taken seriously.
  24. That attitude means accepting whatever the UNT leadership decides without any public attempt to influence the process. Sentiment here is running 9-to-1 to fire RV and find a new AD. The school's president has ignored private messages calling for this, so we're taking it public. What you want is for us to shut up and hope for the best. We tried that under RV since 2001. How's it working out for us?
