  1. You don't have your facts straight. UNT90 communicated with donors every step of the way. We've been discussing the campus flyover idea for a while and it got our support.
  2. I said it should be happening every year, and you countered with the fact it has happened once with Houston on our stadium opener. Here in Florida UCF got Texas as its stadium opener. Compare our future schedules at my link to those of UTSA, UTEP and Rice. We're by far the worst at scheduling among our Texas conference rivals. They're all getting schools with some juice to visit. We're getting a series of schools whose names are followed with "Who?".
  3. What does RV's motto have to do with this?
  4. I don't see a home-and-home with Houston here: http://www.fbschedules.com/ncaa/conf-usa/north-texas-mean-green.php When did you hear this?
  5. Why are you writing him off as just an OL coach when he was the head coach at Abilene Christian for seven years?
  6. That's some almost amusing sarcasm. Keep trying. You'll get there, little buddy. Hiring someone to spread the word on campus is more cost-effective than taking time out of our jobs to do it. The latter wouldn't even be an option for me, since I'm the St. Augustine, Florida, chapter of Mean Green Nation.
  7. I'm going to contribute to this. My wife won't be thrilled, but we've had a good 20-year run. That's more than my parents. If the billboard looks like it will be funded, we need it to be paired with a social media campaign. There should be a URL on the sign that people can visit to reach a Facebook page, web site or the like where they can make this effort more viral.
  8. If anybody knows a group that can be hired to distribute flyers on campus, let us know. The plane isn't the end of the campaign.
  9. Stories like this illustrate that RV is either the worst scheduler in the FBS or he isn't even making an attempt. If an FCS move-up can schedule opponents that size within its region, UNT should be able to get an opponent each year in Apogee on par with them from Texas and surrounding states -- and occasionally one from further away, like how UTSA has gotten Arizona State to come next year. Every big program in the country wants to recruit in Texas. UNT has no history of being a giant killer. We should be getting more home-and-home offers than we can accept.
  10. I'm glad the banner is flying today. The UTEP game on Nov. 28 was too far off to have any potential influence. The banner has already achieved the goal of putting RV's job performance under more scrutiny than he's ever faced before. When the Star-Telegram is reporting that RV sought a public vote of confidence from Smatresk and didn't receive one, it's obvious that a lot of people in Mean Green Nation are unhappy about what he's done to our revenue sports. If Smatresk is smart he'll keep RV away from the decision to hire the next coach. The best way to achieve that is to move him out of the AD position now, either by terminating his contract or moving him to another position until his contract expires on Feb. 28, 2017.
  11. I think most college football fans have formed opinions on various programs, regardless of whether there's a fan of them around. I thought Apogee would be a game changer for how we're perceived, because of the teams we brought in and the way we played with a bigger financial emphasis on football. It would be interesting to take a survey where random college football fans are asked to share what they know about UNT. I wonder how much that would cost on Amazon Mechanical Turk.
  12. Do you think anybody affiliated with A&M cares about the old Southwest Conference affiliation with SMU? I think they likely scheduled that game for other reasons.
  13. You post here too, yet you're claiming expertise on how much non-UNT fans care (or don't care) about this program. Maybe you should just accept that this is a difference of opinion.
  14. You presume too much. I'm following the program from a long way off in Florida. Work doesn't let me travel to games. My interest is closer to the level of the casual fan than that of an Apogee tailgater. You agree with me that other fans will razz us about the Portland State loss. You agree that we need to win to attract bandwagoners. So it's not like I'm seeing this much differently than you. I tire of people saying "nobody cares anyway" when a statement is made that quantifies about how much our football team stinks under RV. If you believe it doesn't matter when we suck, you're also saying it doesn't matter when we win. So why bother? We put a lot of money into Apogee and the salaries of the football coach and AD under the premise that it would benefit our school to succeed in this sport.
  15. Terrible news. Shortly after I arrived at UNT, Tony led us to a Southland Conference championship and the school's first NCAA tournament bid. That was a fun team to watch at the Super Pit.
  16. I don't think a Sack-N-Save is ever new. On opening day the store already has scuffed-up floors and bathrooms so filthy a meth head would refuse to cook there.
  17. I would have some interest in these games if the chance that UNT would put a scare into the payee was greater than 0.0%. Instead, we're the best paycheck game an opponent could hope for. We're so bad that our fans can wear UNT colors in opposing stadiums and be treated with kindness.
  18. There are millions of college football fans. Many of them follow what's happening across the sport. They won't hear much about a school like UNT, but when they do hear something, it would be nice if it wasn't an embarrassment of historic proportions. A college football fan with no ties to Boise State probably knows they've built something out of nothing on their smurf turf. If someone meets an alumnus of Appalachian State and they start talking about football, the Michigan win is going to come up quick. That's one reason why the Portland State debacle matters. It reinforces our reputation as a terrible football program in the eyes of a lot of people. Another thing it does is turn off a group of people we need: UNT alumni who follow college football but don't follow us. A school as big as UNT has a lot of college football fans. Some of them are only casually interested in the Mean Green, because they would rather follow more successful programs that are on the tube and in the news all the time. The only way to get them to care is to give them a bandwagon to jump on. We have to win, and big wins have to come against schools that impress fans instead of RV-scheduled jokes like Incarnate Word and Bethune-Cookman.
  19. News of the worst FBS loss to an FCS school was reported all over the college football world. Fans of other schools will be hanging that albatross around our necks for a long time.
  20. Chico had a lot of time to draft this plan while no one associated with UNT football was doing any recruiting. It's going to be yuge.
  21. UNT has been below average for so long that we are due an above-average performance under the next coach, just to balance things out. We're paying more than most schools in CUSA and have a new stadium and other advantages that put us near the top in the conference. It should be possible to put things together faster than 3 years. It's not like CUSA is full of world-beaters, particularly in the west.
  22. Holy RIchard Nixon, Batman! Chico has a secret plan to win the war against terrible football.
  23. FCSC (Fox College Sports) is replaying the CUSA championship right now.
  24. This past week has been a Chico-palooza around here. There were a lot of hot-sports opinions about how he's the right guy for the job.
  25. This is a pretty good team and the fans live in Ruston. It's not like there are a lot of better entertainment options for those folks.
