Here in Florida, La Tech/Southern Miss is running into our broadcast time on Fox Sports Florida.
-
This is a good criteria for our job. Add HAS SIGNIFICANT COACHING EXPERIENCE IN TEXAS AND TEXAS TIES and we're getting somewhere.
-
The flaw in your logic is that they could be 2-10 because they're terrible, not because they're rebuilding. I get tired of the "we're rebuilding" rationalization for a new coach doing poorly out of the gate. CUSA is not a conference that should take 3 years to be competitive in.

As long as Derek Football makes her agree to raise their children as Mean Green, with appropriate names like Jamario and Booger, I can forgive this transgression.

Time for predictions. UNT opened as a 4-point favorite and it narrowed to 2.5. The over/under is 51. I'm going to be sentimental here and pick a 17-13 win. I also predict the game will be a victory for cold and flu season. Good luck to the Mean Green, particularly the seniors.

It's wishful thinking to believe that the UNT fan base is going to all rally behind the new coach. Neither Smatresk nor RV has done anything to address the concerns of disgruntled fans since the McCarney firing. Instead, Smatresk stayed silent while RV portrayed us as a "minority" and made excuse after excuse in the press for a decade of poor performance in the top sports. I'm not aware of a single fan who got a direct response from Smatresk to a letter or email about football since the departure of the last coach. So if there's no unity in how we respond when the coach is hired, that's a consequence of poor leadership. I'll put the past behind us when the past isn't running our athletic department.

If recruiting is indeed the #1 priority for this hire...
rcade replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
As far as I know, we've never tried to get a coach to leave a program like that to come here. We took a risk on Dodge out of high school and hired McCarney away from his coordinator job at Florida at a time they were changing coaches and his future there was in flux. Given what we're going to pay the next coach, we'd have a good shot at prying a successful coach away from someplace like Ruston or Jonesboro. -
Willie Fritz interested in leaving Georgia Southern for Iowa State

At least this news tells us he's looking at other coaching jobs. Maybe he'll be available to UNT if he doesn't get an offer from a bigger school. -
If that happens, our former Missouri Valley Conference mate could turn to Dickeyball and Diet Coke Boy to keep the winning on track.

Chico, don't be discouraged. -
Chico says' "I never saw this season coming"!
rcade replied to man-up UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
That might not be a smart play for Chico. A head coach out there who might hire Chico as an assistant doesn't want to think he'll publicly stab him in the back after he's fired. -
Why North Texas needs to run the triple option
rcade replied to Ben Gooding's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't care if our style of play is entertaining. I'm entertained by wins. -
I want the coach to be told if he ever says the six words "it's too tough to recruit here," that's his resignation. He has to sound as positive as he did in the job interview even in hard times.

Chico says' "I never saw this season coming"!
rcade replied to man-up UNT's topic in Mean Green Football
This is kind of a no-win topic of conversation for the coach who is the bread on the McCarney sandwich. Chico: "I never saw this coming." What the hell -- how could you be so blind to not see this coming? Chico: "I saw this coming." What the hell -- how could you see this coming and fail to prevent it? -
Update on Injured MTSU Running Back Desmond Anderson
rcade replied to rcade's topic in Mean Green Football
Me too. I didn't see the play, because I couldn't find a game telecast. Next year we need to bug the local TV stations until we find one that will air our games that end up on American Sports Network. -
Has the athletic department ever conducted a survey to ask fans what time they'd like home games to begin?

Desmond Anderson, the Middle Tennessee State running back taken to the hospital after a tough hit yesterday, was released from Vanderbilt Medical Center Saturday and walked out on his own: http://www.dnj.com/story/sports/college/mtsu/2015/11/21/mtsus-anderson-hurt-taken-vanderbilt/76184050/

This kind of question is pointless. But as a point of fact, it is almost impossible for the next coach to take us further down than we are at the moment. This is the nadir. We aren't competitive in games even against old Sun Belt foes. The toughest job in Denton is to compile a Mean Green highlight reel after games. We're playing poorly in every facet of the game. When you see how Fritz's team played against Georgia last night, it seems absurd to think he'd be another McCarney here. His 153-68 record shows he can win. Doing that in CUSA is not a herculean task. -
Have you considered that we beat UTSA because your team is also staggeringly bad this year? If UNT was going to beat one team this year that we have special hatred for, it would have been SMU.

UNT is not a garbage job. We paid McCarney more than all but three other CUSA schools and there is talk the salary could go as high as $1 million or even $1.5 million for the next coach. We have a new stadium. We're in the largest metropolitan area in the South, the 8th largest in the U.S. and the 5th largest TV market. We're the fifth largest university in Texas. Yes, we have a long history of losing and an AD who is doing a lousy job. But a coach coming here has far more advantages than he's going to find in places like Ruston, Jonesboro and Statesboro. This is an attractive G5 job. -
The officiating was ridiculous in the fourth and OT. They found a face-guarding penalty out of nothing on a long pass when FAU had the ball, then on those last two plays ignored obvious fouls against FAU. But I didn't like the play calls from first and goal on. Four straight passes when their running game was getting 3-4 yards per carry.

Is this the fifth 10-loss season in school history?

We're not interested in good games. We're interested in North Texas. -

1972: 1-10 2007: 2-10 2008: 1-11 2009: 2-10 http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/fetch-team.pl?team=North_Texas I wonder if RV is the first AD to ever keep a job with four 10-loss seasons in football. -
Less Than 3 Hours Before Game Time and Still no Prediction Thread?
rcade replied to foutsrouts's topic in Mean Green Football
We're a 24-point dog to MTSU. Good weather. They'll be motivated to beat an old nemesis in their house. I don't see us covering this spread, but we will score our first points in Tennessee. MUTTS 40, UNT 10
