  1. I don't see why you'd conclude that the only way UNT could get on TV locally is if we paid for it. American Sports Network has a CUSA contract for a reason -- the network makes money showing the conference's games. They'd eagerly partner with a TV station in DFW to show a game with a DFW team. American Sports Network is broadcasting a UNT basketball game tomorrow on stations around the U.S., but none of them are in DFW. If it makes financial sense for those other stations around the U.S. to carry a UNT game, there might be a station in DFW that could make money on it too. The pessimism here about finding a TV station to show our games is premature. We don't know what local station managers would say if enough UNT alumni and students lobbied them to pick up games.
  2. Grants and financial aid don't cover everything. I went to UNT entirely on student loans and grants and I still had to come up with rent for housing, money for ridiculously overpriced textbooks and money for food. Maybe he is leaving in the hope it will spur UNT to offer a scholarship.
  3. Bummer. Tre was one of the only bright spots last season.
  4. It looked to me like the cities aren't determined. The teams are named after their coaches (Team Ford, Team Cottrell and so on) on the draft list.
  5. This comment is full of win. I like that you fault him for being on Fry too much when you'd have to be there just as much to make that observation. I wish I could look back on my college days and recall a "gaggle of questionable life choices in mini skirts" following me. That's a great phrase.
  6. Cool. The league is affiliated with American Sports Network, which will be broadcasting all the games: http://www.mlfbmedia.com/mlfb-announces-two-year-television-contract-with-american-sports-netwo/
  7. Public intoxication was a cherished part of my college experience. As long as he wasn't anywhere near a vehicle this seems like an extremely minor offense.
  8. I didn't expect to get pushback here for discussing how to get all our games on the tube next season. That's a really good use of your time, James. Waiting around for something to happen on its own isn't generally a successful approach.
  9. Hard to get ratings for a game that isn't shown. Any channel that will air them, obviously. Having every UNT game on TV is not an impossibly high standard to meet for an FBS program with 36,000 students and a quarter-million alumni in DFW. We talk here about how the size of the DFW TV market is a plus for UNT. Actually being on TV in that market is kind of a big deal.
  10. I only could see the UTSA game because one of their fans put it on Periscope. I had the impression it wasn't televised in DFW.
  11. One of the perks of being in CUSA should be that all our games are on TV locally. I think American Sports Network's deal ensures that every conference game we play has a broadcast. We just need to press the local networks to pick the games up.
  12. Mean Green Nation needs a local TV station that caters to our fan base and alumni by airing games that aren't on cable networks. Given our alumni presence locally, it's a joke that some of our games don't air anywhere in the DFW TV market, even when American Sports Network aired the game on other TV stations around the U.S. To avoid this problem in the coming season, we should start contacting local TV stations now to let them know we want to watch UNT games on their station. Towards that end, does anyone know which local stations aired a UNT game last season? Those are the ones most likely to be persuadable.
  13. We're in the same boat as UTSA: Atrocious season, new coach, diminished CUSA. It's a good yardstick to measure how Littrell does.
  14. Recruiting a kid to Denton should be easier today than it was in the '80s when I attended school. The campus is more impressive, Apogee is a massive upgrade over Fouts and the nightlife in town is better. The courthouse square 30 years ago was a ghost town. There only was a video store, Recycled Books, a burger place and El Matador a few blocks away. When I visit these days Denton looks more like a destination than a place you leave every weekend to do things in Dallas or Fort Worth.
  15. The Kid reunites with Mean Joe and nobody brought a Coke?
  16. "Usually" is not "always." If all you want is positive news, stick to meangreensports.com. An athlete continuing with team activities while facing felony criminal charges is news.
  17. I think we all knew the day Littrell was hired that his first recruiting class would be limited. How many weeks has he had to recruit, outside of the quiet period, from the day he was hired to signing day? He's going to need to overachieve in year one with the players he brings in and the players who returned.
  18. Lance Dunbar was traded to the Jaguars?!
  19. Keeping a athlete away from team activities while he is facing a felony criminal indictment should be the easiest thing in the world. Send an email to all coaches and trainers and tell them. If the athlete needs a keycard to get into any team facilities turn it off or confiscate it. RV's inability to do this makes it look like he isn't even trying any more. The four words the NCAA likes to use when dropping the hammer on a school are "lack of institutional control." Dealing properly with an athlete in trouble with the law is an example of institutional control.
  20. A program can walk and chew gum at the same time. A&M is known for the 12th Man kickoff program and it hasn't made it seem like the school can't recruit.
  21. Those with a big endowment don't have to talk about it all the time. It speaks for itself.
  22. I'd like to see UNT adopt an aggressive walk-on culture. Be the school that gives enough walk-ons a look that we find 4-6 good ones a season -- and make a big deal about hyping their achievements -- so every Texas kid who doesn't get an offer believes he might have a shot in Denton.
  23. On television.
  24. I think you overestimate how much the players think about the AD. The relationship they have to buy into is the one with Littrell.
  25. If he's instituting a culture of accountability, I know who he should start with.
