  1. I know as UNT fans we're conditioned to keep going to things that bring us misery. But people who don't like UNT90's RV bashing should perhaps, maybe, possibly consider not going into topics he starts that are 100% guaranteed to contain RV bashing. In conclusion, RV sucks.
  2. It was a good move because it gave us more conference foes in Texas and took us out of the weakest FBS conference. But CUSA has proven to be a weak conference to be in, and under RV we're making it weaker.
  3. The problem isn't going to disappear because we pretend it isn't happening. RV is throwing away the millions spent on athletics by putting a product on the field that embarrasses the university. If Smatresk allows this to continue, we may eventually have a student uprising that throws out the athletics fee. It's the sad truth. If you're going to call the athletics fee "other people's money," every dollar spent to support UNT is other people's money. Students approved the fee because they wanted more from their school in athletics. It was a commitment to the future of the school that built a nice stadium and upgraded the program. If there was commitment to winning and a strong work ethic at the top from the AD, most students and alumni would be happy with this expenditure.
  4. Don't be so negative. We bring a lot of wins -- to our conference opponents.
  5. As I predicted, RV has protected himself from more scrutiny by avoiding two coach firings in one year. Poor Littrell. If he can win in this organizational culture of dismal failure he's the greatest coach who ever donned Sansabelt shorts.
  6. If RV is making the decision, there's no way he fires Benford. It would call more attention to the fact that he's turned our athletics program into a disaster. I was going to call it a dumpster fire, but those can be put out. UNT athletics under RV is more like the Centralia mine fire, which has burned for decades, can't be put out and has driven the public away forever.
  7. Four of those five bowl trips were over a decade ago. How many teams wish they had one bowl visit in 10 years? UNT ranks 106 out of 119 teams in winning percentage over those 15 years: http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=2000&end=2015&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct We rank 117 out of 123 the past 10 years: http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=2005&end=2015&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct In the college football world we're an object of pity, not envy.
  8. How far down Smatresk's list do we have to go before he reaches this item? Fire the AD so our athletics program is no longer a national embarrassment that discourages alumni support. I'll believe he's a different kind of UNT president when he puts out the dumpster fire.
  9. Littrell has some social media game. I wonder if he's using Snapchat to talk to potential recruits.
  10. I've sent an email to find out who makes sports programming decisions for KTXA. If I get a response I'll post it here.
  11. I don't see why you'd conclude that the only way UNT could get on TV locally is if we paid for it. American Sports Network has a CUSA contract for a reason -- the network makes money showing the conference's games. They'd eagerly partner with a TV station in DFW to show a game with a DFW team. American Sports Network is broadcasting a UNT basketball game tomorrow on stations around the U.S., but none of them are in DFW. If it makes financial sense for those other stations around the U.S. to carry a UNT game, there might be a station in DFW that could make money on it too. The pessimism here about finding a TV station to show our games is premature. We don't know what local station managers would say if enough UNT alumni and students lobbied them to pick up games.
  12. Grants and financial aid don't cover everything. I went to UNT entirely on student loans and grants and I still had to come up with rent for housing, money for ridiculously overpriced textbooks and money for food. Maybe he is leaving in the hope it will spur UNT to offer a scholarship.
  13. Bummer. Tre was one of the only bright spots last season.
  14. It looked to me like the cities aren't determined. The teams are named after their coaches (Team Ford, Team Cottrell and so on) on the draft list.
  15. This comment is full of win. I like that you fault him for being on Fry too much when you'd have to be there just as much to make that observation. I wish I could look back on my college days and recall a "gaggle of questionable life choices in mini skirts" following me. That's a great phrase.
  16. Cool. The league is affiliated with American Sports Network, which will be broadcasting all the games: http://www.mlfbmedia.com/mlfb-announces-two-year-television-contract-with-american-sports-netwo/
  17. Public intoxication was a cherished part of my college experience. As long as he wasn't anywhere near a vehicle this seems like an extremely minor offense.
  18. I didn't expect to get pushback here for discussing how to get all our games on the tube next season. That's a really good use of your time, James. Waiting around for something to happen on its own isn't generally a successful approach.
  19. Hard to get ratings for a game that isn't shown. Any channel that will air them, obviously. Having every UNT game on TV is not an impossibly high standard to meet for an FBS program with 36,000 students and a quarter-million alumni in DFW. We talk here about how the size of the DFW TV market is a plus for UNT. Actually being on TV in that market is kind of a big deal.
  20. I only could see the UTSA game because one of their fans put it on Periscope. I had the impression it wasn't televised in DFW.
  21. One of the perks of being in CUSA should be that all our games are on TV locally. I think American Sports Network's deal ensures that every conference game we play has a broadcast. We just need to press the local networks to pick the games up.
  22. Mean Green Nation needs a local TV station that caters to our fan base and alumni by airing games that aren't on cable networks. Given our alumni presence locally, it's a joke that some of our games don't air anywhere in the DFW TV market, even when American Sports Network aired the game on other TV stations around the U.S. To avoid this problem in the coming season, we should start contacting local TV stations now to let them know we want to watch UNT games on their station. Towards that end, does anyone know which local stations aired a UNT game last season? Those are the ones most likely to be persuadable.
  23. We're in the same boat as UTSA: Atrocious season, new coach, diminished CUSA. It's a good yardstick to measure how Littrell does.
