DRC: Dickenson the right person for UNT’s athletic director
rcade replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't like criticizing Hank. I enjoy him on the broadcasts. But I don't want anyone inside UNT athletics to be considered for the AD position. Bring someone in with experience at a program where they had sustained success. No one at UNT has any idea what that is like.- 75 replies

Why is UNT paying someone in athletics to promote the accomplishments of the AD we just got rid of? I question the judgment of Hank Dickenson for having the department devote any time to this. We're supposed to be looking forward, not trying to spin the record of Rick Villarreal to make people like him better.

I don't think it's ridiculous to honor a coach whose team won 26 consecutive conference games, four consecutive conference titles, our first bowl trip in 42 years and our first bowl victory in school history. As long as Mattress Mac is alive, it would be idiotic to take the practice field name away. He has a net worth of $75 million and might change his mind and begin supporting UNT again someday. And if you take the name away, you tell other big money donors we don't honor our commitments to them.
-
Now that some years have passed since his acrimonious departure, I'm fine with the practice fields being named after Dickey. He did a lot for football in the time he was here. The winning streak and bowl win were great achievements for a program that had suffered for so long.

Boosting bottom feeders a priority for C-USA
rcade replied to Coach Bill Lewis's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't care how many times they ask. We're not taking Baylor. No means no. -
I understand the need to set realistic expectations, but two wins is not progress. It's failure. Coaches in the FBS don't get five years to rebuild.

Rick Villarreal leaving UNT is a change desperately needed
rcade replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
A mod on GMG has auto-substituted two words with the phrase "airplane-delivered terrorist kite of hate speech." The words rhyme with planner bane. -
I do. I want the Mean Green to stomp those color-coordinated Highland Park popped collar bastards like the Greasers beat the Socs.

How much would a plane cost that read "HANK IS NICE BUT WE'D PREFER AN AD WHO HAS NO CONNECTION TO THE LAST GUY"?
-
I don't want an AD promoted from within. Hank may be a nice guy, but if all he knows of running an athletic department is RV, he'll be too much a risk of reigniting the dumpster fire we just put out. Get someone who has experienced life in a successful athletic department and has never given an interview where he made excuses for failure.

I don't want to pull a muscle patting my own back. I am not a young man any more. But as one of the banner donors, I think it helped make this day happen. Diehard UNT fans had never done something like that to an AD before. I hope there's never a reason to consider flying another banner. UNT sports is due for some good times.

It didn't go forward because Paterno covered it up. A lot more evidence has come out in recent days showing that he knew and did nothing. The claims are coming from victims going back to the 1970s, many of whom have been paid settlements by Penn State. Paterno was a fraud. He was held up as a paragon of living a virtuous life, but he failed to protect children from a sexual predator for decades. He even kept him employed at Penn State football and did nothing when the predator set up a camp for troubled youth! Sandusy is a monster. Paterno was a monster of a different kind.

List: Nicknames More Clever than Hattiesburg Hustler
rcade replied to Censored by Laurie's topic in Mean Green Football
We should call him the Immovable Object. -
I know as UNT fans we're conditioned to keep going to things that bring us misery. But people who don't like UNT90's RV bashing should perhaps, maybe, possibly consider not going into topics he starts that are 100% guaranteed to contain RV bashing. In conclusion, RV sucks.

Poll: North Texas fan opinions on move to C-USA?
rcade replied to Harry's topic in Mean Green Football
It was a good move because it gave us more conference foes in Texas and took us out of the weakest FBS conference. But CUSA has proven to be a weak conference to be in, and under RV we're making it weaker. -
UNT Funnels Millions Into Money-Losing Sports
rcade replied to Skipper's topic in Mean Green Football
The problem isn't going to disappear because we pretend it isn't happening. RV is throwing away the millions spent on athletics by putting a product on the field that embarrasses the university. If Smatresk allows this to continue, we may eventually have a student uprising that throws out the athletics fee. It's the sad truth. If you're going to call the athletics fee "other people's money," every dollar spent to support UNT is other people's money. Students approved the fee because they wanted more from their school in athletics. It was a commitment to the future of the school that built a nice stadium and upgraded the program. If there was commitment to winning and a strong work ethic at the top from the AD, most students and alumni would be happy with this expenditure. -
Don't be so negative. We bring a lot of wins -- to our conference opponents.
-
As I predicted, RV has protected himself from more scrutiny by avoiding two coach firings in one year. Poor Littrell. If he can win in this organizational culture of dismal failure he's the greatest coach who ever donned Sansabelt shorts.

MGB: No news today on hoops, source says
rcade replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Basketball
If RV is making the decision, there's no way he fires Benford. It would call more attention to the fact that he's turned our athletics program into a disaster. I was going to call it a dumpster fire, but those can be put out. UNT athletics under RV is more like the Centralia mine fire, which has burned for decades, can't be put out and has driven the public away forever. -
What will it take for a leadership change
rcade replied to GrandGreen's topic in Mean Green Football
Four of those five bowl trips were over a decade ago. How many teams wish they had one bowl visit in 10 years? UNT ranks 106 out of 119 teams in winning percentage over those 15 years: http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=2000&end=2015&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct We rank 117 out of 123 the past 10 years: http://football.stassen.com/cgi-bin/records/calc-wp.pl?start=2005&end=2015&rpct=30&min=5&se=on&by=Win+Pct In the college football world we're an object of pity, not envy. -
How far down Smatresk's list do we have to go before he reaches this item? Fire the AD so our athletics program is no longer a national embarrassment that discourages alumni support. I'll believe he's a different kind of UNT president when he puts out the dumpster fire.

Your comment is not a positive thought. Now mine isn't either. See what you've started? -
Littrell has some social media game. I wonder if he's using Snapchat to talk to potential recruits.

What Local TV Stations Broadcast a UNT Game Last Season?

I've sent an email to find out who makes sports programming decisions for KTXA. If I get a response I'll post it here.
