If you win the World Series while cheating and get caught, you're always going to be the team that cheated to win the Series. Nobody ever made the Black Sox look better by saying that other players also threw games back then.
-
UNT has three official school colors: green, white and black. One of these days UNT is going to figure out that green should always be the dominant color on our primary athletic uninforms.

I rise and ask the chair to grant me the floor for the purpose of calling the question.

I want a head coach for North Texas who looks at the job the way Darrell Dickey looked at Diet Coke Boy.
-
This season wasn't a failure when it began but he didn't act like somebody who was fired up to be here. If you're not enthusiastic how can anyone expect your players to be? As someone who drifted back to the Mean Green this season after a few seasons of not watching closely I was amazed at the difference in Littrell's demeanor.
-
Do you get the impression this season that Seth Littrell cares and is giving everything he has to turning things around?
-
At 43, Littrell is young enough to get another head coaching shot in the future if he gets another OC job and does as well as he did under Larry Fedora at North Carolina. He would be going against the norm, though. When coaches leave UNT for reasons other than taking a better head coaching job, the only ones I could find who ever got another top job at the college level were Bob Tyler at Millsaps College and Dennis Parker at Texas Lutheran. Rod Rust did become head coach of the New England Patriots and Montreal Alouettes.
-
I would be sadder about Seth Littrell if he didn't have the sideline demeanor of a guy thinking about his golf game. Mike Canales was dropped twice into worse situations as UNT's interim coach and he was able to get the backing of the players and show how much the job meant to him. He was out there for the alma mater after his final game as coach following a season-ending loss in 2015 looking like he went to this school.

Conferences don't die. Twenty schools left the WAC from 2010 to 2012. It stuck around by dropping football for nine years and making other desperate moves. CUSA will survive too and collect those exit checks. (Aside from the SWC, of course. Somehow it was the exception.)
-
They gotta look at the bright side. Each of the left behinds has a 1 in 3 chance of winning the conference.
-
When Gary Patterson took over at TCU, they were in the WAC and joined CUSA not long after. There are good reasons to be dubious about hiring him at UNT, but he would know more than anybody about what it takes to go from G5 suffering to P5 success in DFW.

Sometimes you gotta tee it low and take it slow. -
At what point is CUSA no longer a conference?
rcade replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
The WAC survived, dropping football as a sponsored sport in 2012 and picking it back up nine years later. CUSA can survive too if it is willing to do anything to stick around. -

I will never root for the cheating Astros, but it would be nice if Mattress Mack started writing big checks to UNT athletics again. The Dickeyball era ended 15 years ago. He's gone on to successful OC stints at a bunch of schools. Who is even still around UNT athletics who pissed Mac off back then?
-
AAC schools are getting $7 million a year in TV money. Sun Belt schools are getting $500,000. The AAC deal may change after this round of musical conferences, but not enough to make the Sun Belt a preferable conference to be in.

As a UNT fan, I can fathom any form of misery that's inflicted on a G5 fan base. I had all the feels for UAB when football was dropped. Now those zombies kick our ass every year.
-
A lot of coaches would take $1.3 million to $1.8 million a year to coach UNT, which is among the highest in G5. Winning at least 5 games once in your first two seasons is not asking for the impossible.

How is that not a sack and safety? How was it not a blow to the head on the defender hitting Aune? The refs are ridiculous. -

The sideline situation is becoming as out of control as when Dickey put the team in rec-league-quality black jerseys to piss off RV. -

The end of this quarter feels longer than the Penn State/Illinois overtime. -

Yes. I can't see the receivers any better than Aune has. -
