DRC breaking news -- Torrey, Sanders will not play today
rcade replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
Does UNT normally report injuries before each game? -
Hearing "Gabbert drops back to throw" gives me a lot of confidence as someone who has seen a lot of Jacksonville Jaguars football. If he's anything like Blaine, the UNT secondary can expect to receive some gifts today.

I can't give you permission to steal it but if I saw you stole it I'd never report the crime.

Todd Dodge say goodbye to football forever
rcade replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
For me the lasting image of Dodge's time in Denton was the entire offense looking at him after the huddle and before each snap. That was some poor workplace ergonomics. -
I had a friend at Pauline G. Hughes Middle School in Burleson who used to punch his friends in the nards unexpectedly. One minute you're walking to Texas History class and the next you're doubled over with cartoon birds circling your head, wondering if you'll have to adopt. How Jon Papajon remained our friend I will never know. But he's my role model when it comes to UTSA.

He looks like a fifth- or sixth-rounder to me. But I said the same thing about some great running backs the Mean Green produced and the last one who got drafted was my classmate Erric Pegram in 1991.

Sincere McCormick had 298 rushing attempts in 2021, the second highest in FBS, and 725 attempts over three seasons. The idea of hitting 1,000 attempts before going pro must not have appealed to him.

Prime Time about to flip the #1 HS Player in the country?
rcade replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
We'd all have more concerns if Julia Roberts married Lyle Lovett than if she married us. I think a lad who could've signed at Alabama probably hurt his prospects a bit by dropping down to FCS. But he can always transfer if life with Deion doesn't pan out. -
Prime Time about to flip the #1 HS Player in the country?
rcade replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
How does this not bite young Travis in the butt come NFL draft time? Jackson State has had one player drafted the past 20 years. The last big-time NFL player it produced was Jimmy Smith, a second round pick of Dallas in 1992 who became the best wide receiver in Jaguars history (and perhaps forever given how my local team drafts these days). Yes, the FCS does produce some draft picks each year but he won't be honing his skills against the best. -
Ryan named Presenting Sponsor of Frisco Football Classic
rcade replied to Jonnyeagle's topic in Mean Green Football
G. Brint Ryan is a UNT alumnus who received bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting with an emphasis in taxation. He's donated $1 million to the athletic department and $30 million to create a business school -- the largest donation in school history. https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2019/02/04/university-of-north-texas-gets-biggest-gift-ever.html Dammit. I knew I should have majored in accounting with an emphasis on taxation. -
They claim to have begun in 1926 on their official website: https://studentaffairs.unt.edu/talons The same claim turns up in the North Texan: https://northtexan.unt.edu/archives/f03/downthecorridor.htm And on this UNT Facebook video: https://ms-my.facebook.com/northtexas/videos/unt-talons/151483216673783/ I looked for a history that explains the 1926 origin, but couldn't find one. I found another North Texan article that appears to agree with you that today's Talons had nothing to do with the 1920s social club and originated in the 1950s: https://northtexan.unt.edu/content/down-corridor-talons-swap-stories-egyptian

Message from UNT alumnus Peter Weller (Robocop)
rcade replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
Michelle Beadle went there. It's why, despite the strong physical attraction, our romance could never work. -
Message from UNT alumnus Peter Weller (Robocop)
rcade replied to Coach Andy Mac's topic in Mean Green Football
RoboCop is a classic. It's set in a future dystopic Detroit but was actually filmed in Dallas. Familiar places make cameos all over the movie, including the Starck Club and City Hall. -
Dave "Texas Football" Campbell passes away
rcade replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
What a legend of Texas journalism. Began at the Waco Tribune-Herald in 1943 and didn't retire until 1993. Saved the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. Led the Football Writers Association of America. Became a big name in Texas football that will extend far past his lifetime. Won a Bronze Star. -
Should QB's be allowed to "fake" a slide?
rcade replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
Our comments here have persuaded the NCAA to treat a fake slide like a real slide. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/32835751/fake-slide-pitt-kenny-pickett-blown-dead-new-ncaa-rules-interpretation New NCAA memo: -

Bowl games have increased from 15 in 1980 to 25 in 2000 to 42 this year. This trend tells me that bowls are making money for somebody. ESPN loves bowls so much it runs 17 of them (18 if they're handling the Frisco Classic). If they weren't profitable they wouldn't keep growing, and all that growth is in minor bowls.

That little girl swore revenge and grew up to be CUSA commissioner. And now you know the rest of the story. Good day.

Lovelace Tweet Under Fire
rcade replied to Big Z's topic in The Eagles Nest (There Should be Pie For Everyone Forum)
If he had another intent he could have explained himself in another tweet. He didn't. He also didn't apologize. I think it's fair to judge him by his words, which were bigoted and made UNT look bad.- 28 replies
