  1. I watched the game on ESPN+ in Florida: https://www.espn.com/watch/player/_/id/269f038c-7dfe-48ce-8c7f-08a89475160b
  2. Any doubts I had in your logic were put to rest by the pretty table with a preponderance of reassuring green.
  3. I wish UNT had the problem of doing so well that our head coaches leave to coach bigger schools. Instead we've been a place that head coaching careers die. Which hurts us with young and hungry potential hires who are keeping a space clear on their mantle for a national championship trophy.
  4. When I bought shoes as a kid I always tested them out immediately to prove they made me run faster.
  5. It would be great if UNT had looked like a conference winner all season. But winning the conference is what people will remember, if the Mean Green can get it done. And if that happens and the team wins a bowl, 2022 will be one fans celebrate for a long time.
  6. There's no reason for that much pessimism. We beat them up last year and when we played them one month ago in their house, only lost in the final 15 seconds. UNT has already shown it can go toe-to-toe against UTSA for four quarters. Now we just have to step up in the biggest game of Seth Littrell's time in Denton.
  7. He hasn't earned jack squat. The conference championship and bowl game should determine his fate.
  8. That's impressive scholarship, properly cited, but I'm going to pretend I didn't see it.
  9. Touchdown Jesus was looking out for us on that call against the Rice quarterback.
  10. As a child of divorce raised by television, I gotta correct this: It's meep meeps.
  11. Down votes are the fiber in my diet.
  12. Littrell didn't turn down Kansas State because of loyalty to UNT. Negotiations broke down over the retention of assistant coaches and the buyout clause. K State had concerns that he would bolt to coach Oklahoma if Lincoln Riley left. https://www.cjonline.com/story/sports/college/cat-zone/2018/12/07/north-texas-seth-littrell-reportedly-backs-away-from-kansas-state/6746244007/ I don't believe in coach loyalty or player loyalty. Anyone who can move up by leaving will leave. The same goes for schools. If they can make a coaching change to better themselves, they will. We don't need loyalty from Littrell. We need wins.
  13. Forgetting Abner Haynes is embarrassing. He's also the NFL's leading rusher born in Denton, ahead of Walt Garrison who had 3,886.
  14. I hope that Littrell still has to prove something this season to avoid getting fired. If he wins the conference or a bowl game I expect he'll be back next year.
  15. Wilson has 1,903 rushing yards in the NFL after 4.5 seasons. It makes me wonder what former UNT running back has the most in the NFL. An alumnus from my era, Erric Pegram, had 3,398 in seven seasons. Wilson has already passed Pegram in touchdowns, with 16 rushing and 5 receiving. Pegram had 13 rushing and 1 receiving.
  16. All three of the fatalities are University of Virginia football players. https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/university-virginia-shooting-suspect-search/index.html
  17. Stylized Eagle in the streets, Flying Worm in the sheets.
  18. The Flying Worm is one of my favorite parts of UNT lore. I'm so glad we're seeing it again in games. Rick Spears a.k.a. Green Grenade created a logo that will be a memorable part of our football story forever.
  19. Now that athletes can transfer more easily, is that as much of a risk? If they come to a school and the coaching situation changes in a way that they don't like, they can hit the portal.
  20. Because it's a chance to play a decent or better out-of-conference opponent on a bigger stage than a regular season game. Because every bowl gets some attention from the media and is watched by alumni and other college football fans. Because winning a bowl gives you some positive momentum entering the off season.
  21. I haven't seen an accurate targeting call in a UNT game all year.
  22. We can multiply Littrell's achievements by 3 and he'd still have zero conference championships. There isn't a fan base in the FBS where the all-time great coaches discussion would include somebody who never won their conference.
  23. It would mean having a coach whose results are so good we keep extending his contract. From 1946 to 1959 his lowest finish was second place. The team reached three bowls in an era where bowls were scarce. Even in the next seven years there were second, first and first place finishes and he recruited Mean Joe Greene. It also means having a coach who could set himself apart as a leader, as Mitchell did when he led the integration of college football in Texas.
  24. Achievements in college football don't stop being remarkable just because the sport changed. For instance, SMU is excellent at paying players today but nobody lets that tarnish their past achievements in that regard. Odus was a legendary coach and fans shouldn't diminish that. Football legends are in short supply in Denton.
  25. At Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, the Carswell Bombers assembled a team that won a national military football championship in 1951 and 1952. They recruited their team by offering Southwest Conference athletes near graduation a chance to join the reserve and stay out of the Korean War. UNT played Carswell in 1952 and won 28-14.
