  1. Seth Littrell doesn't have to say anything, but it would be a good idea. In his position I would put out a statement reminding people of my achievements while subtly stoking anger among those who share my rage over my firing. And the first letters of each sentence would rhyme with "duck stew." The accompanying photo would accentuate my Eric Taylor handsomeness and include the URL of my new site on OnlyCoaches.
  2. Corky Nelson, Matt Simon and Darrell Dickey beat Texas Tech in Lubbock.
  3. Firing coaches that early always seems crazy to me. How can you possibly see something in the first two games you didn't already know? (Aside from situations like Bobby Petrino giving that 25-year-old a ride.)
  4. Virginia Tech negotiated a buyout with Justin Fuente of $8.75 million one year ago. https://www.on3.com/college/virginia-tech-hokies/news/virginia-tech-ad-announces-negotiated-justin-fuente-buyout/
  5. It's cool to see more women coaching football, but I think you're asking the question a little too early. None of the female NFL assistant coaches at the link has a job title that would get a male coach considered for a head coaching job in the FBS.
  6. Fans at bigger schools are outraged that we don't accept forever losing bowl games and being stomped in OOC games against good teams. I am beginning to suspect they don't have our best interests at heart.
  7. The only argument for bringing back Dickeyball is that it might make Mattress Mac love us again at a time when he's got $75 million in betting payouts burning a hole in his pocket.
  8. Seth Littrell did improve the football program, but he was helped by coaching during an FBS era of enormous bowl inflation. There are 43 bowl games this year and 131 teams in the FBS, so 65 percent of teams are making a bowl game. Littrell's teams even reached a bowl three times with losing overall records. Last year's 6-7 team wouldn't have reached a bowl without a UNT alumnus creating the game. Take away reaching bowl games as a mark of success and Littrell's only a small improvement over his recent predecessors despite very large improvements in UNT's stadium, facilities, coach's salary and resources.
  9. The outrage from all those OU fans is funny. Like they'd keep a coach for seven years with Littrell's record.
  10. I think public universities in Texas hiring a coach or AD have to go through a public job posting and hiring process and can't just do what they want behind closed doors. Which probably means they just have to pretend it's an open competition for a little while before they can do what they wanted anyway.
  11. That kind of thing can happen when your school hasn't had a coach leave with a record above .500 since 1978.
  12. Who else was on GoMeanGreen at the moment this news broke? Addiction to this board has its perks.
  13. Seth Littrell made some improvements to UNT football but the bottom line is that seven seasons without a bowl win or conference championship is too damn long. I hope he does well in his future jobs and expect he'll get another head coaching position in FBS at some point.
  14. Judging by Twitter GoMeanGreen is the first to report this anywhere.
  15. Now we just get stomped in every big game, bowl game and conference championship. Progress!
  16. Loyalty doesn't exist in college football. Everybody -- coaches, ADs, players -- will leave for a better opportunity if one is offered to them. At least now players can hit the portal when a coach leaves.
  17. Littrell's contract goes through 2023. If we extended it again it would be through 2024. I don't think it would be unprecedented to fire a head coach and then hire an AD who chooses the new one. I prefer that path over making the next AD inherit Rick V's last hire.
  18. If you pay me $1.7 million a year and my workplace is a sports venue, fans can yell whatever they want as long as they leave my wife and kids out of it.
  19. Deion Sanders reinventing himself as a college coach is an incredible story. There hasn't been a coach who produced a winning record at Colorado since Gary Barnett was forced out in 2005. If Deion succeeds there the Florida State coach better keep winning.
  20. He was sick of teaching social studies.
  21. If Boise State fans want to show disrespect for how we're playing football they need to get in line. Behind us.
  22. The culture he helped create was to ignore serious crimes, not to make them happen. He and a bunch of others at Baylor had a chance to step up and do the right thing and they never did.
  23. Innocent until proven guilty is a standard for taking someone's freedom away in a criminal court. The standard for hiring somebody should be a lot higher than that. There are a lot of former head coaches out there looking for a second chance who wouldn't be greeted at their introductory press conference by protesters against sexual violence on campus.

Traylor even used the on-field pregame interview to say "Birds up!" and do the hand gesture. Watching that MFer I have to stop myself from being fired up for UTSA. DESPITE MY VOLCANIC HATRED.
