As a soccer fan still reeling from the news about Grant Wahl dying in Qatar, I am not ready to lose The Most Interesting Coach in the World.
-
Not even if we paid him money?
-
By this time Diet Coke Man could be coaching his own team. He should be on Mosley's short list.
-
I wouldn't have seen any of this game if I hadn't set UNT basketball as one of my favorite teams on ESPN, which put the game live on the ESPN.Com homepage. That ending was must-see TV. Love to see the Mean Green take charge and make the boisterous crowd go home unhappy.

Please don't let this be a decision Jared Mosley inherits. I hope that Mosley is his own man and any guidance from the departing Wren Baker on hiring the next head coach was filed under "Outsiders, Advice From." This could be the single biggest decision of Mosley's entire tenure as AD. If we believe in him as AD, he needs to either make the call on the hire or be 100% on board with it.

I want a head coach who has to keep a notebook by the bed to write down crazy plays he thinks of in his sleep.

Inspired by your comment, I asked the AI program ChatGPT to write a speech for Seth Littrell after he was fired and include a reference to a specific TV show. Here's what it wrote: Dear members of the University of North Texas community, It is with a heavy heart that I must announce my departure as the head football coach of the Mean Green. I have been honored to lead this program for the past several years, and I am grateful for the support and opportunities that I have had here. While I am disappointed to be leaving, I am proud of the progress that we have made on and off the field during my time here. I am confident that the program is in a strong position, and I have every faith that it will continue to thrive and succeed under new leadership. As a lifelong fan of football and a big fan of the TV show Friday Night Lights, I know that the game is bigger than any one person or any one coach. I will always cherish my time with the Mean Green and the memories that we have made together. I want to thank the university, the community, and the players for their support during my time here, and I wish the program and the university nothing but the best in the future. Sincerely, Seth Littrell

If he had sent a group text there's a higher than 100% likelihood [1] that it would've been shared publicly by somebody. 1: A word of caution on my math: I failed pre-calculus three times at UNT before passing it with an A my final semester in 1991.
-
Maybe, but creative plays help an offense by making defenders less confident in what they're seeing on other plays. When you never do anything unexpected -- it's third and long and Darrell Dickey is going to keep calling a draw play until one succeeds -- life becomes easier for the opposing defense.

I'll be surprised if they don't put UT in the name someday. The Archfiend of Austin will make it bend the knee.

What College Football do you watch other than UNT?
rcade replied to El Paso Eagle's topic in Mean Green Football
I watch whoever currently holds the only true championship in the FBS -- the College Football Belt. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1s8aWwQ3TVcI9uK9FqQj9w9S6q0m6gi9pl5ho6D3Dft4/edit#gid=369365817 -
SFA voted on Nov. 29 to join the UT system, which was a dumbass move. They could've joined our system and become University of North Texas East Texas. https://www.texastribune.org/2022/11/29/stephen-f-austin-state-university-system-vote/

One of Nick Saban coaches want to come back to UNT...
rcade replied to Mo Green's topic in Mean Green Football
I like hearing about coaches with Denton and UNT ties wanting the job, but Youngstown State HC plus a bunch of OL jobs isn't enough meat on the sandwich. -
I'm glad to see more schools move up to FBS, especially the future UT Nacogdoches since I went there my first semester of college before my dad decided "I will pay for your college" was more of an aspirational statement than a binding verbal contract. This does raise the urgency for UNT to become strong enough to be invited aboard the P5 ark. A biblical extinction event might be coming.
-
Even if Traylor graduated from UTSA he wouldn't stay for 10 years if there were greener pastures to poop in.
-
I think he's already on short lists at P5 schools. Billy Napier jumped from the Sun Belt to the SEC. And not even a smaller SEC school, but big-bucks Florida. My guess is that after next season UTSA loses him unless it does a massive faceplant in the American.

If a university in Texas posts a job for 10 business days and secretly hires somebody during that period, any applicant no matter how hopeless would have standing to sue. You and I should both apply, then use our lawsuit money to be UNT's new Mattress Macs.

Breaking News Seth Littrell has been fired.
rcade replied to TheReal_jayD's topic in Mean Green Football
I got a private message here from a new member suggesting that I'm not giving Seth Littrell his due for earning more bowl trips than any head coach in team history. Yes, he went to five bowls and his teams will have gone to six counting this year's. But he had the good fortune to be coaching during an era of huge bowl inflation driven by content-hungry TV networks. If Odus Mitchell had coached when six wins guaranteed a bowl trip, he would've taken North Texas to 12 bowls. Three more of his teams went 5-5 or 5-4-1. Hayden Fry's teams went 7-4, 7-4, 10-1 and 9-2 from 1975 to 1978 and never got a bowl invitation. -
Any applicant.
-
If the 10-day rule applies, announcing the hire before that period is over sounds like a good way to get sued. If we have our next coach and he wants to be here, that won't change in 10 business days.
-
I want Aune to make it in the NFL because of the inevitable movie that it would inspire, which would have UNT in a starring role. Call it Old Man on Campus.
-
Seth Littrell doesn't have to say anything, but it would be a good idea. In his position I would put out a statement reminding people of my achievements while subtly stoking anger among those who share my rage over my firing. And the first letters of each sentence would rhyme with "duck stew." The accompanying photo would accentuate my Eric Taylor handsomeness and include the URL of my new site on OnlyCoaches.

Firing coaches that early always seems crazy to me. How can you possibly see something in the first two games you didn't already know? (Aside from situations like Bobby Petrino giving that 25-year-old a ride.)
