  1. Has there ever been a Central timezone college football team that joined a Mountain-and-Pacific timezone conference and became a stronger program as a result? I couldn't find any Central schools that ever joined the PAC-12 or Mountain West. UNT is the only one I can think was helped, but only because we were FCS level before joining the Big West so any FBS conference would've been an improvement. And fans were ecstatic to get out of the Big West.
  2. Joining a healthy P5 conference would be huge. Getting a PAC-12 invite today might be like being asked to join the Southwest Conference in 1994.
  3. The new situation is a mess, but the original one in which an NMSU player shot and killed a student was justified self-defense. Mike Peake was lured to the UNM campus by a female student allegedly plotting with three other UNM students to attack him. One ambusher was armed with a gun and another with a bat. The student who got killed fired first and Peake fired back. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10056347-police-nmsu-cbb-player-mike-peake-lured-to-campus-ahead-of-fatal-shooting https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/crime/2023/01/19/jonathan-smith-plea-deal-mike-peake-attack-unm-albuquerque-aggies-rivalry/69823422007/ Peake has not been charged with a crime. The three students who survived have all been charged.
  4. That gum chewing sound is so cringe! I will only accept "I'm trying to quit smoking and this nicotine gum keeps me from murdering somebody" as an excuse.
  5. I hope this doesn't happen. Having SMU in our conference trying to chew their hoof off to escape is entertaining.
  6. Who will replace the stature and presence of SMU in the AAC? UT-Arlington could if it revived football and asked students to wear popped collars and douchebro shades to games. They even have a horse mascot.
  7. The next time a conference realignment move is about academics will be the first time.
  8. He last visited five hours ago, so that's a good sign: https://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/profile/2944-untjim1995
  9. Damn. We lost them ALL to transfer and have to start from scratch with a team of student walk-ons? Holy Odus Mitchell, Batman!
  10. I'd like to see him stay in the CFL for next season. I watch that league and it's common for a backup to get a shot as a starter. He's got the passing skills to succeed there.
  11. Has North Texas athletics ever done any promotions or events with Stone Cold?
  12. I love the Flying Worm but I am content with it being the logo we always use on throwback games and merchandise. The main logo should be the Diving Eagle and the main color UNT green. UNT should commit to these for years because changing the logo and color all the time makes it look like we've got no identity.
  13. I am reserving judgment on how that helmet and logo will look on a professional TV broadcast. CUSA was using Flintstones cameras.
  14. Recruits get Morrison Corn-Kits and buy one get one at New York Sub Hub (not to be combined with any other offer).
  15. I am fine with student-athletes making money under the NIL. But it is depressing that when UNT finally got to a point with coaching salaries, stadium and facilities where it was competitive, a new funding channel began of NIL collectives that leaves us way behind.
  16. Fans weren't bashful about commenting on player performances when they were unpaid.
  17. The FAU homers who couldn't shut up about their hopes of being ranked might get their wish. Eleven ranked teams lost Saturday. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/35452736/eleven-ranked-men-basketball-teams-lose-saturday-tie-mark
  18. Dammit. Thought we'd pull another one out. FAU has a teeny gym but their broadcast and fans did a good job of making it look like a party.
  19. That would be a great team entrance song. Perfect name, the lyrics fit and the start has bust-through-a-wall energy.
  20. It would be an insult to the biggest donors not to list them on that page, unless they specifically asked not to be named. And who would do that? Every time I send a sawbuck to UNT athletics I want it shouted to the rafters that I support the program.
  21. I don't think anyone involved in the team thinks a bowl game is meaningless -- even the players who skip them. They put their bodies on the line all season and would want to win a game that ends their season on a high note. Even if it's a lower-tier bowl, it's still one of the big moments in their short athletic careers. Davis probably lost his chance at being drafted, and that sucks, but he will be remembered by fans for giving the Mean Green everything he had -- including in a final game that he could have skipped. Hopefully he'll recover and choose a team to sign with after the draft that's a good fit for his talent.
  22. Our weird 110-year-old cheer sounds like a reference to music in porn movies ("bow-chicka-wow-wow").
  23. When I win Mega Millions it's becoming Flying Tomato Cyberball 2072 $5 Pitcher Stadium.
  24. Good point. And what the hell has Vince Lombardi done for anybody lately to get his name on the Super Bowl trophy?
