  1. The NIL doesn't pay players a salary. You have to work to get a salary. The NIL pays them for being themselves even if they never play a minute. I love UNT but if I was an athlete and could get paid 10 times as much NIL money to play in a bigger conference, I'd probably leave as fast as the check cashed in my new Maserati.
  2. It's a four-foot arc inside which defenders cannot draw charges.
  3. Give Mac the assist on the bucket that tightened it to 54-48. He was screaming and waving to get us to drive the lane.
  4. It's like a Seth Littrell season. Half good half bad.
  5. That hashtag is so terrible I'm almost glad he's leaving. "I just had a double Whataburger with large fries, a Doctor Pepper shake and a hot Apple pie. #respectmydecision"
  6. Dusty May is a hell of a communicator. Everything he says in these postgame interviews is about sending a message to his team and lifting them up, and it's like he planned everything from his words to his demeanor. I can see why FAU's team has a rock-solid belief in themselves no matter how highly ranked the opponent.
  7. Every college football coach takes the job knowing they're going to be fired someday if they don't win enough. I think that after being fired, all of them should make a public statement expressing gratitude for the support they got from fans and the community in the years they were there. And they should thank their coaches and players. It's not the end of the world when they go out bitter or say nothing at all, but if you can't find good things to say about a job that put millions in your bank account and made you big man on campus at a proud public university, you might need to regain some perspective. Almost every coach who ever got fired here kept on coaching elsewhere, so it must be a pretty sweet gig.
  8. https://web.archive.org/web/20160202234646/http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/10/dan-mccarneys-letter-to-unt-fans.html/ Dan McCarney's Farewell Letter to UNT Fans Dear Mean Green fans, Thank you for your incredible support throughout my time at North Texas. Someone once said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Margy and I will smile a lot because each of you enriched our lives. Please continue to support our football team with your energy and passion Thursday night. Thank you for the countless, everlasting memories. Sincerely, Dan McCarney
  9. Maybe now that he has a new job he has time to write a goodbye statement to the UNT community.
  10. I looked up the eligibility rules and they are completely vague. The artist cannot have "achieved a breakthrough into the public consciousness and impacted the musical landscape" in a previous year. So all of us on this board are eligible to win a Best New Artist Grammy. Nwigwe probably isn't eligible any more, since he got nominated once.
  11. I wasn't expecting the entire PAC to leave the conference just because SMU is reportedly joining.
  12. I've stayed in Annapolis a few times for business. It's a great town. The Graduate Annapolis is a nice hotel downtown on West Street close to good restaurants and bars. Further out, the Crowne Plaza Annapolis next to Westfield Annapolis Mall was cheaper and pretty nice. If you stay on West Street, the goat and fig flatbread at Light House Bistro is crazy good. And if you leave without having eaten crab cakes, crab bisque or crabs in the shell you have failed at life.
  13. It was crazy to see Tobe Nwigwe as one of the nominees. It takes a long time to become a Best New Artist nominee -- he's been in music for seven years! Has Apogee ever hosted concerts? It would be cool for him to take that field to perform.
  14. I'm not a loser. I have a career .500 record.
  15. The pink uniforms worn last night by the women's team were for the annual Pink Game to honor breast cancer survivors and their families. There was a reception for them before the game and they got to attend for free.
  16. I transferred to UNT after attending SFA, Richland College and UT-Arlington. UNT became my forever school.
  17. I'm digging the Mean Pink uniforms the women are wearing tonight. I couldn't say this kind of thing without being harassed by my friends at Pauline G. Hughes Middle School, but pink is a great color for sports teams.
  18. Going 195-20 lifetime coaching D2 will help. The guy was the Dean Smith of the Florida Panhandle.
  19. It took 23 years in coaching for Greg Heiar to get his first Division 1 head coaching job. Ten months later his team was shut down during the season and he can say goodbye to the $300,000 per year, five-year contract because he'll be fired with cause. His next job interview is going to be wild. "It says here, coach, that one of your players got into a shootout during the season and three others hazed a teammate multiple times by removing his clothes, slapping his naked butt and touching his scrotum. In front of the whole team. "What makes you the best choice to lead SMU?"
  20. Has there ever been a Central timezone college football team that joined a Mountain-and-Pacific timezone conference and became a stronger program as a result? I couldn't find any Central schools that ever joined the PAC-12 or Mountain West. UNT is the only one I can think was helped, but only because we were FCS level before joining the Big West so any FBS conference would've been an improvement. And fans were ecstatic to get out of the Big West.
  21. Joining a healthy P5 conference would be huge. Getting a PAC-12 invite today might be like being asked to join the Southwest Conference in 1994.
  22. The new situation is a mess, but the original one in which an NMSU player shot and killed a student was justified self-defense. Mike Peake was lured to the UNM campus by a female student allegedly plotting with three other UNM students to attack him. One ambusher was armed with a gun and another with a bat. The student who got killed fired first and Peake fired back. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10056347-police-nmsu-cbb-player-mike-peake-lured-to-campus-ahead-of-fatal-shooting https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/crime/2023/01/19/jonathan-smith-plea-deal-mike-peake-attack-unm-albuquerque-aggies-rivalry/69823422007/ Peake has not been charged with a crime. The three students who survived have all been charged.
  23. That gum chewing sound is so cringe! I will only accept "I'm trying to quit smoking and this nicotine gum keeps me from murdering somebody" as an excuse.
  24. I hope this doesn't happen. Having SMU in our conference trying to chew their hoof off to escape is entertaining.
  25. Who will replace the stature and presence of SMU in the AAC? UT-Arlington could if it revived football and asked students to wear popped collars and douchebro shades to games. They even have a horse mascot.
