  1. Boy is he going to feel foolish next year when UNT wins the NCAA tournament.
  2. SMU's deal to pay every football and basketball player $36K a year for 2022-23 was publicized everywhere. They were the first school collective to do something like that, though some bigger dogs in P5 followed with much bigger yearly salaries, er, nameimagelikeness-eries.
  3. I don't think the NIL money means we should feel more license to rip players. Most players paid NIL money are getting less per year than if they were a shift manager at Arby's. College football is still a sport full of athletes who love the game and appreciate their scholarship and their school. The ones making big NIL money and getting lured away to transfer are rare.
  4. Aune still has a shot to make it as a backup and some of those guys stick around for years. Chad Henne just retired at 37 and led a scoring drive in a playoff game last season when Mahomes got hurt.
  5. You assume incorrectly, sir. Rojomojo made the Chiefs practice squad as a long snapper back in twenty aught four. Had to retire after he began dating a cheerleader and tore his sacroiliac during a disastrous first attempt at tantric lovemaking.
  6. Fun fact: Austin Aune played in the Blue-Gray game against Kurt Warner. Threw a couple picks and a couple touchdowns.
  7. I don't think scholarships are a problem. Players only get them while they are here. If there was a way within the NIL to reward players for staying longer I'd like to see that happen. I support players having a lot more freedom to transfer but it does detract from the enjoyment of the sport when the roster is in constant flux.
  8. I don't want to hear from college coaches like Gundy whose idea to reform the NIL free-for-all is to give coaches a lot more power over player movement. Unless the coaches also agree that their own movement is restricted when they sign a contract and they have to honor it in full.
  9. This is definitely North Texas news. We proudly tell prospective recruits whenever a former player's brother reaches the NFL.
  10. He got injured and only played four games, rushing for 229 yards and four touchdowns. SMU got running backs from Miami and Texas A&M in the transfer portal so he likely went elsewhere for playing time.
  11. No one should ever quote what I said five-plus years ago. That guy was an idiot.
  12. Relying on a city-owned facility to host our basketball teams sounds more like a Trojan horse than a gift horse. I don't know when I've ever believed Denton had the best interests of UNT at heart.
  13. Tylor Perry has received expressions of interest from Arkansas, Cal, Florida, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, UCF and Wake Forest, per 247 Sports. When you're in the G5, losing a player who was great on a national stage is the natural order of things. UNT has to do the same thing and make fans of a smaller school upset that we poached their Tylor Perry.
  14. The NIL doesn't pay players a salary. You have to work to get a salary. The NIL pays them for being themselves even if they never play a minute. I love UNT but if I was an athlete and could get paid 10 times as much NIL money to play in a bigger conference, I'd probably leave as fast as the check cashed in my new Maserati.
  15. It's a four-foot arc inside which defenders cannot draw charges.
  16. Give Mac the assist on the bucket that tightened it to 54-48. He was screaming and waving to get us to drive the lane.
  17. It's like a Seth Littrell season. Half good half bad.
  18. That hashtag is so terrible I'm almost glad he's leaving. "I just had a double Whataburger with large fries, a Doctor Pepper shake and a hot Apple pie. #respectmydecision"
  19. Dusty May is a hell of a communicator. Everything he says in these postgame interviews is about sending a message to his team and lifting them up, and it's like he planned everything from his words to his demeanor. I can see why FAU's team has a rock-solid belief in themselves no matter how highly ranked the opponent.
  20. Every college football coach takes the job knowing they're going to be fired someday if they don't win enough. I think that after being fired, all of them should make a public statement expressing gratitude for the support they got from fans and the community in the years they were there. And they should thank their coaches and players. It's not the end of the world when they go out bitter or say nothing at all, but if you can't find good things to say about a job that put millions in your bank account and made you big man on campus at a proud public university, you might need to regain some perspective. Almost every coach who ever got fired here kept on coaching elsewhere, so it must be a pretty sweet gig.
  21. https://web.archive.org/web/20160202234646/http://meangreenblog.dentonrc.com/2015/10/dan-mccarneys-letter-to-unt-fans.html/ Dan McCarney's Farewell Letter to UNT Fans Dear Mean Green fans, Thank you for your incredible support throughout my time at North Texas. Someone once said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.” Margy and I will smile a lot because each of you enriched our lives. Please continue to support our football team with your energy and passion Thursday night. Thank you for the countless, everlasting memories. Sincerely, Dan McCarney
  22. Maybe now that he has a new job he has time to write a goodbye statement to the UNT community.
  23. I looked up the eligibility rules and they are completely vague. The artist cannot have "achieved a breakthrough into the public consciousness and impacted the musical landscape" in a previous year. So all of us on this board are eligible to win a Best New Artist Grammy. Nwigwe probably isn't eligible any more, since he got nominated once.
  24. I wasn't expecting the entire PAC to leave the conference just because SMU is reportedly joining.
  25. I've stayed in Annapolis a few times for business. It's a great town. The Graduate Annapolis is a nice hotel downtown on West Street close to good restaurants and bars. Further out, the Crowne Plaza Annapolis next to Westfield Annapolis Mall was cheaper and pretty nice. If you stay on West Street, the goat and fig flatbread at Light House Bistro is crazy good. And if you leave without having eaten crab cakes, crab bisque or crabs in the shell you have failed at life.
