Bill Mercer is the first person I associated with North Texas. When I watched the occasional game as a kid in the 1970s, I recognized him from the Saturday Night Wrestling broadcasts on Channel 11. One of the all-time greats in DFW sports broadcasting and a well-deserved inductee into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame.

I know less than nothing about this, but with the reputation of our band and drumline there should be directors from other FBS schools applying here to move up. We wouldn't need to look to high schools for a new leader any more than we'd do that for a head coach. That would be insane. No FBS program would ever do that.

Good win. The offense rolled over Temple and the defense came to the party, getting three INTs and holding them scoreless for the last 38 minutes of the game. Let's play like this against Tulane. I always get them and Temple confused and maybe our players do too.

Fans show up for App State because they win, not because Boone lacks other things to do. Since they joined the FBS in 2014 they've had no losing seasons and have been to seven bowl games, winning six of them. Before that in the FCS from 1982 to 2013, they had only four losing seasons and won three FCS championships.

The last time all FBS schools were anywhere close to competitive parity had to be before 1984 when the schools won an antitrust battle to take the control of the sport's TV away from the NCAA. But in the 1970s it wasn't a level playing field for UNT either, excluded from the Southwest Conference. If it had been more fair, Hayden Fry might have stayed.

This is a fun one-day headline for Utah but I have some questions. How many of those 85 Utes actually want a leased Dodge Ram? If you polled them I bet a lot would prefer the money that's being spent on this. Is the collective going to pay for their auto insurance, gas and on-campus parking too? How is this PR move going to look if any of those players crashes and hurts themselves or others behind the wheel?

Thanks. I love the Mean Green and wish I'd spent more years in easy driving distance to our games instead of moving to Florida. I just spent the evening on FSU's campus in Tallahassee watching tens of thousands of fans leaving the game, camping and cooking out in the RV parking lot and loving life. Gameday here is an enormous street party. I can still hear it going on at Potbelly's nightclub from my son's apartment. They started partying and drinking at 10 a.m.! If I had the money to make Denton that kind of scene I'd spend it, but while Brint Ryan was getting his UNT degree in accounting with an emphasis on taxation I was getting mine in journalism to be a newspaper reporter. Half the papers I applied for jobs at are dead.
