  1. My point is that the average student who is so uninformed they think UTSA athletes are making big NIL money is not likely to vote at all. Every university is full of students who don't care about athletics, Homecoming or the rest of the college experience. Any referendum to improve those things is going to have to find the small percentage of students who do care and work like hell to get them to vote. UTSA only getting 1,730 of them to vote Yes is a disaster. In time they could be looking back at this vote like UNT fans look at the drop to I-AA.
  2. Something I've never heard of before happened at the USC/California game. Time expired at the half with USC's offense in field goal position and the teams went to the locker rooms. After halftime, the teams come back out and the PAC-12 refs let USC have an extra second quarter play with one second left. They get to attempt a field goal. https://ftw.usatoday.com/2023/10/usc-cal-second-quarter-halftime-bizarre-sequence-college-football Thank Touchdown Jesus the field goal attempt missed, even though USC kicker Denis Lynch had gotten to practice the exact kick at halftime!
  3. The average student didn't vote on this at all -- only 15% of UTSA students participated in this referendum.
  4. I am shocked by this news. While I enjoy bad news about our rivals like it was cheap pitchers at the Tomato, UTSA had those giant crowds enjoying winning football with a coach who was good at student outreach. How did only 1,730 students vote for this? When UNT got the student vote that built Apogee, a lot of student government, frats, sororities and other student groups worked hard to get their people out.
  5. The average college football player in the G5 is making less money from NIL deals playing football than their classmate could earn working part-time at Subway. And at Subway you get free subs.
  6. I'm beginning to see Caponi's problem. Our defensive coordinators should always look like Ernest Hemingway or Kris Kristofferson.
  7. I'd rather have a play that gave us a 96.7% win probability with 47 seconds left than an overtime that's 50/50 at best. The defense you didn't trust with 20 seconds left would've been needed to stop them in overtime too. It sucks we're having this debate, but better than the one in the first half about what years sucked the worst to be a fan of this program.
  8. It is pick your poison. If we cared more about consuming the clock than scoring, we get a field goal there. Then if we lose in OT, we're all angry we didn't score a touchdown when there was a chance to grab the lead. Our defense had held Memphis to one touchdown in the second half. We should have been able to keep them from going 75 yards in 47 seconds.
  9. It is chess, and our win probability was much higher scoring a touchdown with 47 seconds left than kicking a field goal and going to overtime.
  10. The offense scored with just 47 seconds left. That should have been short enough time for the defense to keep Memphis out of the end zone.
  11. Down by 10 with two minutes left in the third is still a ballgame. Gotta submit this fast before Memphis gets the ball again.
  12. My favorite part of watching Mean Green games is when we get into arguments about whether things are worse now or were worse in the past.
  13. Are we really the TV audience that needs to see Timothee Chalamet giving us his slow-motion Blue Steel to sell Chanel perfume? We are more of the light beer, hard seltzer and "is your penis crooked?" crowd.
  14. That running back looks gassed. We have them right where we want them.
  15. 134 yards rushing in six minutes.
  16. Nice fight for that long catch, Ward!
  17. The Strutting Eagle on our helmet is only from the 1980s? I woulda thought 1950s or earlier.

  19. I saw Houston beat Eastern Washington 84-21 in 1990. David Klingler threw 11 touchdowns to break the all-time NCAA record of 9 set by Dennis Shaw of San Diego State in 1969. It's still the record today. Houston had a tradition of the mascot doing a push-up for every total point after each score. He had to do over 500 push-ups.
  20. Even with a UTSA loss and no bowl game in 2021, we don't know he would've been let go that year, given the financial considerations. In 2022 he got a $1.6 million buyout with only one year left on the deal. Stack on another $1.6 million if he was fired a year earlier. That's a lot of cheese for a G5 program without big money boosters known for making it rain.
  21. He did, and kudos to him for that UTSA beatdown forevermore. But when you expand the picture to include performance in bowl games, it wasn't pretty. I hope Morris knows that Mean Green nation expects bowl game wins, not just appearances.
  22. I love the smell of second half adjustments.
  23. I gave up on the game at 21-0 because my son just began at Florida State and I had FSU/Duke tickets. After missing that half I may disown him.
  24. Can she coach a defense and start work immediately?
  25. Ugh. Cue Dandy Don Meredith.
